Pompey target Basinas

Portsmouth are set to rekindle their interest in Greece international midfielder Angelos Basinas after missing out on West Ham United's Michael Carrick.

The South Coast outfit were linked with the Euro 2004 star earlier in the summer but opted to chase the likes of Senegal international star Papa Bouba Diop and Carrick.

Portsmouth have landed Aliou Cisse, but with Amdy Faye out of action and Alexei Smertin returning to Chelsea, Redknapp is keen to bolster his numbers.

The Pompey boss had the chance to see Panathinaikos captain Basinas first hand when the Greeks played at Fratton Park at the weekend and was clearly impressed.

"Basinas is a good, strong player and a great passer," explained Redknapp. "You could see when he played against us that if you gave him space he could do damage.

"I liked the look of him. He's god a good technique, two great feet and would do a top-class job."

come on guys why wouldnt basinas want to go to portsmouth- i mean hell go there, win 0 titles, 0 cups, (not even be considred a contender) play in a mediocre exxagerated league and never play in europe.

Good point. Maybe the only reason he would go there would be for the money.
