Celtic are now being linked to a loan move for Chelsea's Scott Parker. Karagounis may just be the first in a number of high profile players linked to Parkhead to take the pressure off the tight-fisted board of directors.

I think that Karagounis does need to get out of Inter in order to get some 1st team action. Crystal Palace wouldn't be a bad choice, as no one in thier midfield strikes me as being impressive. He would also join up w/ Vassilis Lakis, who hasen't been getting much playing time at Palace (or w/ the national team for that matter). As unlikely as it may be, it would be neat having a potential for a Greek midfield duo at Crystal Palace :D :gr: .

karagounis is probably onr of the best players in the world for middle class teams... Keeps the ball, earns fouls, wins time, frustrates the opponents, scores, markes etc....

For me the biggest loss of all the PAO players that have gone is Karagounis... He is the heart and sould of every middle-class team who needs some time for possession and some time to get off the pressure of the opposite team. He plays well in BIG games (see Old trafford against Man Utd, Arsenal in Leoforos, euro 2004 etc) and he also covers huge space in the field.....

Why cant we try and use all our efforts to bring him back? I reckon he would do the current PAO midfield a world of good.

I too along with Lyberopoulo think he was the one player we sorely miss. And you are right he does play up to expectations in big games, but most of all he plays very clever in midfield. Great positioning on the field as well.

Benfica are struggling to muster the financial clout to sign Internazionale midfielder Giorgias Karagounis.

The Greece international has an uncertain future at Giuseppe Meazza as he is not a regular member of coach Roberto Mancini's plans.

Premiership side Middlesbrough have already failed to tempt Inter into offloading Karagounis for the rest of the season.

But that has not quelled the interest in the attack-minded midfielder, with Benfica, Mallorca and Paris Saint Germain all keen.

Portuguese giants Benfica are rumoured to be Karagounis' first choice, if he is allowed to leave Inter during the transfer window.

A move to Estadio da Luz would enable Karagounis to link up with compatriot Panagiotis Fyssas and this is a factor in Benfica's favour.

Benfica coach Giovanni Trapattoni is chasing a midfielder in the mould of Karagounis but the stumbling block is the player's wages.

Karagounis earns a sizeable salary in Milan and Benfica fear they will be unable to meet the Greek's demands if they convince Inter to sanction the 27-year-old's departure.

I am hard pressed to remember the last time PAO lost such a valuable player at the PRIME of his career

Just as hard would be to remember the games that Georgaras did NOT perform well...

He is a passionate team player, with unbelievable stamina and the willingness to sacrifice for the team.

He got a red in the Portugal friendly to save a goal, and a yellow in each Euro game he played. He missed the final and the Russia game.

Seitaridis was another equally HUGE loss for PAO

Letting Bassinas go, will be the third...

How can we talk Uefa cup success when we let the best go?

Oh yes PAO cannot pay them what they are worth :P

Or rather...WILL NOT

Kara needs to get playing time in a good team at a less competitive league.

France, Portugal, Holland...

Charisteas listened to OTTO and went to Ajax, Karagounaros needs a similar move

PEACE

I hope he finds a team he would like to play and which satisfies his demands$.

If Inter dont need him then they should release him but obviously it also comes down to Giorgios desire for the team he wants to play for and that green paper stuff. B)

This is another example like Charisteas @ WerderB

Vyntra has performed over expectations so far.

He is FAR from reaching Giourkas' level. :nono:

I would love to see him develop to a European class player :)

Only to get heartbroken AGAIN :( ... when our fabulous owners SELL him like every other great PAO player

Best luck to KARA, this is HIS thread after all ;)

PEACE

from channel 4:

Obafemi Martins netted a hat-trick at the Stadio Dall’Ara to see Inter through to the quarter-finals 6-2 on aggregate.

The Nerazzurri could already count on a comfortable 3-1 first leg lead going into this tie, but alarm bells were rung when Bologna went into the break 1-0 up.

In a repeat of Sunday’s match against Sampdoria, Roberto Mancini’s men had the better of the play with a fine save on Alvaro Recoba’s shot, but it was the home side that took the lead.

Dejan Stankovic gave the ball away in midfield and ex-Inter midfielder Jonathan Binotto was ready to tap in Christian Amoroso’s cross at the back post, taking advantage of some terrible defending.

Bologna were more confident coming into the second half, but it lasted only a couple of minutes before Giorgios Karagounis rattled the crossbar and Inter drew level. This time it was Recoba who thumped the woodwork and Martins was on hand to tap in the loose ball.

Juan Sebastian Veron came on for the final 20 minutes in his first appearance since suffering a calf strain two months ago, but it was Martins who was again the star with his second of the match. Stankovic made up for his earlier error by threading through for the young Nigerian.

The Rossoblu fell apart and Martins completed his hat-trick soon after with a stunning solo effort, dribbling past defenders and thumping his drive past Fabrizio Ferron.

shame he didnt score, it might have done his chances some good of starting. hopefully it still may

seems no1 replied 2 my last post. i wrote hopefully it'll lead 2 him starting more games + it seems 2 have paid off:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ten-man Reggina stalled Inter's progress and nearly grabbed a shock win by rattling the woodwork.

Despite suggesting he would employ the trident attack from the start, Roberto Mancini retained his 4-4-2 system with Euro 2004 winner Giorgios Karagounis stepping in to replace Emre Belozoglu out wide on the left. Reggina welcomed back Emiliano Bonazzoli, but Giandomenico Mesto was suspended.

Inter are staging a remarkable comeback to re-enter the Scudetto chase with three victories in 2005, plus their midweek 3-1 demolition of Bologna in the Coppa Italia with an Obafemi Martins hat-trick, but the young Nigerian was benched in favour of Adriano and Christian Vieri.

The Nerazzurri had the first chance after five minutes when Vieri latched on to Marco Materazzi's long pass, but the goalkeeper did well to rush off his line and smother the shot.

Soon after, Karagounis cut in on his right foot and unleashed a rocket that was just about pushed out at the near post by Pavarini.

Inter were given a real scare, however, as Shunsuke Nakamura scuffed a brilliant low cross from Jacopo Balestri and follow-up efforts were charged down by defenders.

Adriano skipped away from his defender and an accurate low drive was palmed out of the bottom corner by Pavarini, then at the other end Gaetano De Rosa's free header was over the bar from six yards.

Giacomo Tedesco replaced Nakamura just before half-time in a curious decision by Walter Mazzarri, as the Japanese midfielder did not appear to be suffering from an injury.

In the second half, Cristiano Zanetti dragged an ambitious shot wide of the target, while Bonazzoli failed to make the most of a floated Mozart pass into the box.

There was more danger for the Nerazzurri when Giuseppe Favalli performed a crucial header to pluck Tedesco's cross off the head of Paredes in a very promising position.

From the resulting corner there were furious penalty appeals from the home team, as Juri Cannarsa's shot was charged down by Javier Zanetti's arm but the referee waved play on as it was not considered to be a voluntary intervention.

Vieri was booked for lashing out at Ivan Franceschini, as Inter were becoming increasingly frustrated with the organised Reggina squad.

The Stadio Granillo crowd was also frustrated, as Javier Zanetti was again involved in an involuntary handling offence inside the penalty area. However, it was Reggina who were punished by the referee, as Giuseppe Colucci was shown his second yellow card in six minutes to leave the home side in ten men in a harsh decision.

Mancini threw on Obafemi Martins and Alvaro Recoba for Vieri and Andy van der Meyde, at last launching the trident attack that had been promised before kick-off.

Nonetheless, it was Reggina who went closest to a goal with a spectacular effort from Giacomo Tedesco. He unleashed a fantastic strike from 30 metres that beat Francesco Toldo, but cannoned off the inside of the post and Bonazzoli was unable to latch on to the loose ball.

A Karagounis volley was wide from the edge of the box, but Reggina continued to push and Zamboni's touched on free kick was over the bar.

Recoba's volley from the edge of the box was very high, but Inter's superstars failed to break down the ten men in the Amaranto jerseys and earn their thirteenth draw of the season.

Teams:

Reggina: Pavarini; Zamboni, De Rosa, Franceschini; Cannarsa, Mozart, Paredes, Balestri; Colucci, Nakamura (Tedesco 45); Bonazzoli (Borriello 87)

Inter: Toldo; J Zanetti, Cordoba, Materazzi, Favalli; Van Der Meyde (Recoba 74), C Zanetti (Emre 83), Cambiasso, Karagounis; Vieri (Martins 69), Adriano

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He lasted the whole game - and by the sounds of it, he had a very promising one 2!! long may it continue. any1 gonna reply this time.
