Come on man you have to be kidding me. Salp is in another category of class and should never be compared to Mantzio. As for Pap, maybe you are right, but Mantzio has only played one amazing game this season (against AEK, kolofardos) and that its. N'doye, Pap and Mantzio you can put in the same class and compare them but not Salp. Salp can turn half a chance into a goal you never expected, fast determined and extremely better technically. If youre in USA you have to pay mega bucks for greek channels and there all the diaspora editions, they dont have Star, non-greek films and other great things that you can randomly find on Greek TV channels with subs etc.. very worth the money, as it even has Supersport 1 and Filmnet on there (try paying for that in Greece its so expensive) They do NOT have ERT 3 (has B' Ethniki, Volley, and a good sports roundup much better than the 3 hour ones on Alpha and NET... for that there is also greekiptv.net or .com or something........... Problem is, more people finding out means more LAG. I have been getting lag lately, and I have a good connection. Hopefully though more subscribers means more money to reinvest and make so no lag and better quality in which case Im sure sissy Cable and Satelite providers will cry about copyrights over channels they cant provide and are terrible at and have it shut down..... NikosVazelas Posted January 14, 2008 Share Posted January 14, 2008 I just want to say a few things about the derby match that we may have not said and things that i read on certain players in some media reports or heard on certain call in shows. First off. Our midfield. it is pretty much the same midfield that has played in games this season. in fact, it is the same midfield that played in panionio. the difference is, seeing as they are defensive minded MF, they dont have the offensive class as say galetti or djole. However where this team strives and excels, is on the counter attack. lets break down the mdifield. First off, Ivanshitz. He started off playing on the left side, with Torosidis guarding him and in the 3rd minute he blew by the oly D and missed a shot to the left of nikopolidis. Torosidis looked really outmatched He and Vyntra had some difficulties complementing eachother for the first 10 minutes but there give and go led to vyntras fluke pass to salpi on the goal, which prob crossed the line. In the second half, he switched to the right and made pantos look weak for the first time this season. His give and go with kara set up his beautiful curling shot which hit the post. The chance by Ndoye followed. Then the penalty call came from a through ball to nilsson by ivan. The Ndoye tete a tete also came from the right side with ivan exchanging with tziolis. He was a force the whole game long and IMO the MVP of the match. On to Karagounis. HE had a different resposibility as opposed to Ivan. First, he was the one that sent Ivan through in the first few minutes, he was also the one that passed the ball to ivan on his post but more importantly, In the second half, he went to the left and ivan to the right, and completely erased galetti and torosidis. vyntra and kara were great defensively, especially on toro, who in the first half had a few runs down the right hand side. Kara played well and was meriting of some of the words i heard against him last night. Tziolis had a defensive role. As the game progressed, Tziolis pushed more and more forward. he gave the through ball to salpi in the 2nd minute. he was the one that sprung Ndoye through on his tete a tete, and if u ask me, is the number one reason that djordjevic was barely noticeable. He could of done more with hsi long shots but wasnt given the chance. i dont mind seeing him shoot from far 5 or 6 times a game because he has scored 3 long shot goals in his career. we see so many long shot goals in the EPL because of the number of shots attempted. I think that by Next summer, not the upcoming one, he may be saught after by many big teams in europe. He is a little slow, but is athletic, tall and has composure for a kid that is 22 and playing for pao for 2 years now. Simao was the one question mark in the lineup because of his inexperience and few appearances in the superleague. Oly kept saying that they were missing two players in the mdifield. well we were missing 3 if u take into account ninis and eki not being ready and of course MAtos being on the sidelines. However the difference is, Pao has proven all year long that injuries dont make the difference as long as u believe in the players. PEseiro has played the same rotation all year long and at first i was a skeptic but what i have seen is that, now, we have 25 players ready to play at any time. when u ask a 19yo kid from Mozambique to come the bench and replace your best defensive midfielder, and he responds by playign a nearly perfect defensive game against ur teams biggest rival in their nearly unbeatable home fortress. thats shows Class. He looked like a veteran out there. sure Oly was missing there two DMs but they have nobody to replace them with. cheers to Simao. Ona more general note and mostly a praise to the coach. Peseiro took a team that was in the pits psychologically and taught them, IN VERY LITTLE TIME, at least football time 6 months is not alot, he taught them how to become winners. not neccesarily the best team out there, but as it has been proven in the past, the best teams rarely win. not only in greek football but in football in general. SEE 2004 EURO for prime example. And one thing he has done, he has made a bunch of naysayers, myself included, completely forget the fact that last year we ALL WANTED NEW CBs and NEW DEFENSIVE LINES. this same bunch of so called bums have been rated very high all year long and have now become the leagues best defence, allowing only 7 goals in 16 games including 3 derbies. One thing about vyntra that nobody gets is that i and many people never said he wasnt a good defensive player. in fact when he doesnt have the ball, he is an incredible defender as we saw him against barca and completely erase ronaldhino. the problem with him imo are two things. he lacks concentration in certain plays like last year in LEns and this year in Atletico. the other thing is i feel he is very poor with the ball. Offensively he is very weak pushing forward. obviously sometimes he can make a play because the odds are with him in that sense. i think this is the reason that Otto keeps calling him up. the fact that he is a solid defender and can help when Greece is not pushing forward to score and are just trying to defend. Like i have said all along, as long as the team plays like a team, they can accomplish anything. And for all the people saying peseiro plays defensive football. with all the so called offensive style coaches we have had in the past 12 years, when was the last time we outchanced, outcontrolled and outplayed oly in their own backyard so badly that they try to little it by saying we scored a goal that shouldnt have counted but fail to mention that they should of been playing with 10 from the 24th and 9 from the 79th and of course didnt mention that their goal could of been a offensive foul that is called 99.9% of the time in greece. i didnt even mention the fact that in the 52nd, before the pap penalty, a CLEAR penalty WASNT called against them when Kovacevic kicked sariegi in the box. woulda been 2-1 with salpi kicking it, before even pap came on and they would of been crying for real and calling forcoaches and managements heads. Bravo to the whole team that showed up and proved we wont be an easy team to face in europe this season and will definately challenge for the title this season. im not sayin we will win on wednesday. in fact im leaning more toward a loss or a draw because its hard to face the same team twice in 4 days on their home field and get positive results in both games. no matter who they are especially if its the big bad reds. I did not see any blatant movement myself, but if you look at the pictures on page 126 of The Laws, the penalty should have been retaken.About challenging the goalkeeper: A player challenging for the ball makes contact with the opposing goalkeeper, who is within his own goal area. I can't see him be as successful as someone like Gekas outside the Greek league. The problem w/ Mantzios is he's too slow. Also, sometimes he just turns in a bad performance, very non chalant, for whatever reason. Maybe he feels like he doesn't get enough playing time?
