as the rumours about Vierihina intensify, apparently Kyriako Papadopoulo wants to come on loan for the rest of the season. He's loan at Lepzig hasn't gone well, between a few injuries he's had and the team doing really well and sitting 2nd in the Bundesliga, he has played once off the bench this season. NOW it feels like the transfer season :)

something needed to be done, the last 2-3 years was a joke with injuries. whatever they are doing is working and there's been a pretty big swing in form with players like Rodrigues, Leovac and Cimirot all who missed big chunks last season looking a lot more solid without being interrupted by injury

agree defense and mids have upgraded. That night at toumba we had skondra playing left back. Katsourani and Vitor at centre back. Lucas/Stoch v Rodrigues/Djalma? Lucas is probably the better footballer than all of them, but at the time he wasn't producing what he has over the last 2 seasons. I'd argue our current wingers will cause more damage on the counter.

don't know much about them, they topped there group which contained Villareal. They are obviously decent but never the less a winnable tie

Just having a quick look at there squad and (on paper at least) they don't look any better than what they were when we played them 3 years ago. The question is, are we a better team? probably yes, hard to say. Clean sheet in the first leg at home and we'll be in with a fighting chance

Has lost his starting spot over the last 3 or so games. Didn't start last week in the crucial UCL game against napoli. Benfica lost but because Beskitas got trounced they managed to scrape through with 8 points. Hopefully he gets his starting spot back sooner rather than later

Pretty sure Uefa confirmed it yesterday or something. But from what I read the top 4 nations in the rankings (Spain, Germany, England and Italy) will get 4 spots in the UCL which isn't too different to how it is now, where the first 3 nations have 4 spots. I'm not sure but maybe those countries are getting 4 tickets directly into the group stage rather than the 3 and one qualifying spot they had before? Maybe dutch eagle knows more. Also i dont think the changes are going to come into effect until the 18-19 season?

gonna be tough whoever we get. If we can keep a clean sheet at home in the first leg, we are on. We are a huge threat on the counter, with Rodrigues, Djalma and matos/Leovac overlapping. Most of our eliminations in knockout football over the last 5-6 years has come because of poor results at home. Away we go and perform, defend well, hard and counter with intent. Then s%$#! the bed in toumba (see ajax both times, CSKA, Udinese and as we know our last 2 europa league group stage eliminations have come from not being able to get points at home) So happy that we are playing knockout football in Europe again. Can't wait for the games.

i dont mind head to head tbh. As you are ranking 2 teams, as to who is better than the other. What better way then to look at the games between the teams in question and see who came off better. Just watched the first half on replay, We started well, the first 10-15 or so scored a goal had another 2 chances with Rodrigues. after that We were very lucky to weather the storm, twice they hit the bar (we hit it once to be fair) but they had us a pinned back. Second half was more balanced. They had a lot of possesion but didnt create as much as they did in the first. fiorentina took there foot off the pedal a touch after making it 2-2.

we would have 10 points as would fiorentina right? we have beaten and drawn with them therefore wouldnt we trump the italians on our head to head? but if qarabag dont win 5-0 (which they wont) then what happens in a 3 way tie? all 3 of us could have 10 points with us having a better head to against fioretenina but qarabag over us
