Hellas Vs Socceroos In June. Two Matches Hopefully.
georgelaz replied to ausgreek's topic in Greek National Teams
Samaris & Petsos seem to work really well together. Was really really impressed with Petsos in the friendlies. Great outside box power shots, he plays to his strengths, seems very consistent. -
he's got an in-form in fifa to an 80. him & mitroglou are really nice up top at 80+ lol

great interview. he's very well spoken and has great ideas on the topics discussed.

I like our team and I think Skibbe gets the idea of what's our best line up. After only 2 days at the NT he stated that he noticed that we have robust options at the CB position and that our weakness was the attacking mid which can be fixed with some tweaking. If Mitroglou, Samaris, Manolas, Fortounis, Karelis played the full 90 minutes, we would very likely have swept Iceland. They only started playing well against us when we played our B team. our A team is much better than them.

never heard of Mavrias at the Rb...

Torosidis steps it up for the ethiniki. He plays 25% better. He's still great for Roma, but they're stacked at RB. Maicon, Florenzi, Torosidis. Still very vital to the team because he's versatile as a utlity player. Can play LB, CDM, RB, even wings

dude scored a hat-trick and then 5 goals the next week. TOP FORM. We need to get him a championship in the superleague.

I think our vetting process is what made Greece punch above it's weight the past 10 years. Whereas form whore countries like England underachieve. I like the idea of slowly integrating 4-5 new players each tournament to form, potential, aging veterans, rather than tossing away hard earned chemistry, confidence, experience. I think we have the right balance. Ranieri killed us because he was a form whore, which works in the fast paced premier league but not in NT football imo. The core is Karnezis, Sokratis, Manolas, Samaris, Torosidis, Mitroglou, Holebas, Kpaps. We are now integrating Fortounis, Karelis, Mantalos, Petsos, Tachtsidis.

Kone was in top form vs. Colombia & Japan.

F*** this. bring back Katsouranis, Karagounis, Gekas. lol
-
still crazy to believe we were inches away from a world cup quarter final in 2014.

Our best attacking mids are Fortounis & Fetfatzidis. But since Fetfa plays in Arabia, Mantalos is the next best option. Best forwards are Mitroglou and Karelis. Velios is 3rd imo tbh I'd still play fetfa even though he's in Arabia. The top Saudi teams are almost as good as the top Greek teams now. Not kidding.

1789. I'd be curious about your starting 11 at this current point in time. I remember really liking a lot of your ideas. Eg) Free roaming Kpaps, high pressing CB's etc.

Kostas Mitroglou ‒ (now playing for Aris)
georgelaz replied to js1000's topic in Greek Players Abroad
Mitro had 2 chances to put them at the back of the net but his shooting muscle mechanics failed him. Similar to the flop shot he had via the Torosidis cross that he fumbled against Montenegro. He needs to work on his brain to leg shooting mechanics from fast crosses. Samaris didn't start but looked solid to keep Bayern from getting a 2nd goal. It'll be tough without Jonas (two yellow card game suspension) to get a win in Portugal, but not a crazy idea. Hopefully Benfica can pull off a shocker. -
our defense with Sokratis, Manolas, Kpaps is way better, the few times we had those 3 at the back I think we've only ever let in 1 goal? Kpaps is not reliable though but rather should be taken as a blessing if he's ever healthy. Sokratis and Manolas at the back also would've faired better for sure. There was only that bad game with Northern Ireland that let in 3, but I think someone was missing? Otherwise with those two at the back 90% of the time our opponents will only score a 1 goal.

great eye dude! never even knew about this guy! or at least forgot about him. 37 is pretty steep though. then again the italians got Di Natali, Totti, Luca Toni, Buffon out there playing week in week out. perhaps 40 is the new 30 in football? ahah would suit the Greek old man with a koboloi persona for sure

guys let's be real. when we were up 2-0 we all got very optimistic. I said before, I'll say it again. We're top heavy. Which isn't the worst of things, but we can't do CRAZY experiments even at a friendly. we need to keep a winning psychology. Diamantakos, Velios, Patsatzoglou, Stafilidis, Kapino, Taxi, Oikonomou, Tziolis, is too much we only really should've put Velios, Taxi, and Pelka in there. keep it to 3. even without our 4 key players we looked great until we put on our C TEAM. We got good talent up to the 16th player if u ask me.
-
Moral of the story without Karelis & Fortounis we look sterile. If Manolas & Sokratis were playing they probably would've got only 1 goal, add kpaps and we might've shut them out. We are a very top heavy team. Petsos looks great out there too. Karelis Mitroglou Mantalos Fortounis Kpaps Samaris Holebas Sokratis Manolas Torosidis Karnezis I like Kpaps in midfield a free flowing CB. The 2-3 games we've let him do that, our opponents rarely scored. I really wished we played for the win though. Eg) playing Karnezis, not subbing Fortounis/karelis out, only Velios not Patsa or Diamantakos. We might've got it with that.

Our CB's a rank as follows imo 1. Sokratis 2. Manolas 3. Kpaps 4. Siovas 5. Moras 6. Oikonomou Fortounis not playing more games for us euro qualifying is a tragedy. we won 50% of games he played the full 90 for, which was likely enough to qualify. We gotta put Velios in there. Karelis & Fortounis are doing all the heavy lifting in attack.
