that's not what I've seen. rather the Greeks of Greece care less about friendlies. They care more for the high stake games. there is still a load of curiosity over the friendlies too, but most Greeks of Greece just reserve themselves to highlights / report. World Cup / Euros the atmosphere is just as crazy if not more then the Greek Towns of the diaspora.

I still think Mitroglou should start. We should play with 2.5 strikers ideally Karelis, Mitroglou, Velios. Mitroglou gets nullified because every team knows he's our main scoring threat, so they just double-triple team him. His presence on the field opens up space on the field because of his threat but he's not enough to be a lone striker like a Benzema. Karelis & Velios + two good attacking mids like Fortounis + Mantalos and I think our attack will be nice Mitroglou Velios Karelis Fortounis Mantalos Samaris This might be a good idea when we need to get a goal^ then the usual back 5. After a goal, we can probably shut down 80% of games with a Kpap sub.

I think he's good enough to be CF. It can be done at 5'9 plenty of great cf/st at that height. Nikolaidis, G Rossi, Aguero, Tevez. Griezmann height is an overrated attribute in soccer because really the difference between 5'9 & 6'is about 10cm. an athlete with hops can make that irrelevant only when height is monstrous eg) Ibrahimovic at 6'5 is a real game changer or super small like Fetfa at 5'5 (who's gotta play on the wings)

Karelis has 6 goals in 10 appearances. Current form on a 40 game season = 24 goals. Mandatory starter for the ethniki. Him + Mitro up top + Mantalos RCAM, Fortounis LCAM. Samaris & Petsos/Tachtsidis we should be okay. We might even be pleasantly surprised with Velios against iceland. + Lazaros, Kone, Pelkas are also healthy options (from the bench for now probably)

highlights in HD We looked really good if you ask me. Fortounis looks really dominate. Mitroglou is menacing, I think we need him in there. Iceland we gotta see Tachtsidis, Velios in there. Why didn't Holebas play? I like Petsos shot. Karelis wise move not passing to a possibly offside Mitro to get the goal.

yeah I made a mistake. basically everyone should be inverted, I think. what games did we have that exact lineup besides fortounis? fortounis a huge piece of the lineup tho at the same time, since he's the only pure CAM in it.

Karnezis Holebas - Sokratis - Manolas - Torosidis Kpaps Tachtsidis Samaris Fortounis Karelis Mitroglou I'd like to see this is injuries weren't an issue. Don't think we've ever seen this lineup and it seems the most obvious...?

Kyriakos Papadopoulos ‒ (Now Playing for Lamia)

Yeah he came on against Hungary & Turkey and completely shut down both offenses in the respective 0-0 games. -
yikes. hope it's not too serious. we need him at the back. ALL THE TIME.

Tziolis isn't that bad, and his playing style was never one that was perishable with age eg) strong, power shot, interceptions. So the fact that he's in his 30s in negligible. Samaris is obviously way better though & Petsos should eventually eclipse him. Tachtsidis is unique because he's more of a deep lying attacking midfielder like Pirlo rather than his defensive abilities (which are decent as well).

it's a good way to look at it but Ranieri I think long term would have been right for us. The dude has balls. He played Mantalos from 2nd division AEK. He looks at form + quality not pedigree and that's what has been Greece's weak spot as a team. Santos did this to a lesser degree as well but had a higher premium on experience.

he's already an 80 so that would monstrous. Manolas is currently an 84. So nice. Both these guys have world class auras to them.

Lets take a look at some comparisons.
georgelaz replied to Ethnikiman's topic in Greek National Teams
Greece is much better than Australia NT IMO. However, the psychology of the Greek NT is really really bad atm. So I wouldn't be surprised if Australia picks up a 1-0 gritty win. I'd say Greece is equal or better in every position. 90% of positions better. -
Lazaros Christodoulopoulos ‒ (Now Playing for Aris)
georgelaz replied to js1000's topic in Greek Players Abroad
yeah when Santos was saying certain players were trying to be the hero and get the goal, he was specifically talking about the 3 on 2 attack where Lazaros took a long shot from an easy to save angle when he should have passed to Mitroglou -

Lazaros has great pace, dribbling, freak kicks, and good penalty kicker. he should've really stepped it up for us in the Euro 2016 campaign perhaps he can make it up for the world cup campaign -
as a cdm, it's sometimes wise to make ambitious tackles before the opponent gets deep into the box. Thus preventing dangerous freekicks, penalties, outnumbered defense etc. Samaris rarely if ever gets double carded, so his cards are a tactical, rather then disciplinary issue.
