  1. we look great so far and/or brondby look like s%$#!. they have not threatened at all. very important we keep the clean sheet.
  2. I'm not saying he will "tear it up," and there will probably be an adjustment period, but I don't think he'll be totally overmatched either. best case, he does boss the midfield. worst case, he becomes a useful squad player.
  3. overrating the soupa ligk? you guys? i expected better. the kid will be okay. no one can say how long he will stay but if he can do it against chelsea, come on.
  4. the player strikes me as similar to mak, productivity-wise. he is a bit younger, though. personally, i am okay with bringing in 21-24 year olds to build a core of a team that will grow together and last a bit longer than if you bring in 25-29 year olds.
  5. He sounds like a team player, but I hope he doesn't take too many pointers (at least on the sports side) from ... Savvidis, etc. If he is allowed to do his job (which Blackhawk alluded to in the thread he made for our new TD) then things will be better, but I feel like that's a big if. I think he is also in for massive culture shock. Either this or he will be the catalyst that transforms our club's business culture from the inside out with a little Nordic efficiency. I think the first one is more likely but I am hoping for the second one. I do not care for instant results (which I think Savvidis has been foolishly pursuing at times) but can we at least get our s%$#! together and not look like amateur hour?
  6. exactly. i've never even been to phoenix landing, but i see that you and i imagine similarly. if we got back to rubbing elbows with the likes of arsenal... i went with my gunner roomie to the arsenal bar once and it'd be great to go in there with a few paoktzides for a european match. a man can dream!
  7. a few years ago, i honestly never thought i'd see the day. i think my
  8. true, it's not a traditional hockey market, but over the past few years they have averaged >95% capacity for their home games. this is more than you can say for the anaheim ducks in the same time period (2011-12 through 2013-14). nashville also draws near-capacity crowds, apparently. i know, it doesn't make sense to me either. on the other hand, the islanders, the stars, the coyotes, and the other florida team lag well behind. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Hockey_League_attendance_figures anyway, back on topic, special teams killed you guys this postseason. you have always been a very, very good skating team (could skate circles around my bruins not too long ago, and again this year) but in the end i think this team lacked (perhaps unconsciously) the willingness to do whatever it takes to win as a part of their identity. the fight that you see from other teams having success right now (hawks, rangers, caps) and in past few years (hawks again, kings, bruins) was not there. fair play to tampa bay, they are a very good hockey club and found plenty of ways to score even without stamkos scoring every game. ben bishop rose to the occasion. it's not at all embarrassing to lose to the bolts. stevie y knows how to put together a hockey club.
  9. with the motivation of the stanley cup, i think quite a lot :P however, i am very wary of the ducks. everything they have done all year, all the third period turnabouts, kind of hint at them as a team of destiny. it will be huge if they lose perry but even then, you especially don't want to play that team adding in some extra motivation for being seen as an underdog.
  10. I had this game playing on my laptop and Chelsea v Liverpool on the tv. somehow, Chelsea v Liverpool--which involved one team that already had their domestic league title wrapped up and their season virtually over while the other was an underachieving side, not a particularly good watch this season, now playing for an outside chance at a champions league spot--managed to be more compelling to watch than a PAOK game. I seriously wondered if I am losing it, but I realize coming here seeing what you guys are saying that the problem is not just with PAOK and myself. this match was perhaps merely the most obviously unwatchable one (for this PAOK fan) in a while and so it magnified the problems that Greek football suffers from. so does watching the prem (or the bundesliga, or la liga, or whichever you prefer) week in and week out, but that's another matter. the good, honest effort and compete level were better from a team playing for absolutely nothing (on paper) than they were for PAOK who, admittedly, probably let this season get away because they're even more fed up with this crap than I am, having to live it in their daily lives. I guess higher effort and a high compete level are to be expected from the best players in the best league, regardless of the match, which is part of why they are the best. but yesterday I realized that it is very hard to watch that and then try and get into today's GSL. we are finished, like burnt toast. either we scrape off the charred portion (up to and including the relevant members of EPO, if not the whole org) and salvage something from the pure elements that remain (the idea of competitive football for its own sake; the platonic form of football) or we throw it out and try again.
  11. tampa have not looked unbeatable. they were undone in a few games by datsyuk almost singlehandedly. on the other side, habs have been getting secondary (or even tertiary) scoring (tampa too--no goals from stamkos yet) and that's huge. i give the habs the advantage in net as well. but the bolts dominated montreal this year and if they can do it again they'll win the series easily. it may take something positive in the mental side of the game such as that to get stamkos a goal and really get the whole team rolling. if i had to call it, i think we have another seven game series on our hands.
  12. would love to see him win the pokal and move to the epl (since that's the easiest/most accessible league for me to watch) but if he goes to tottenham, idk. their defense has been atrocious this year, despite that they have one of the better goalies in the world. i don't think a mere mortal could shore things up back there. but at least they are usually in the running for a top 6 finish and he'd get his foot in the door (of the league). someone else would see his talent and get interested.
  13. it seems the hawks do not have a clear no. 1 goalie right now. this uncertainty does make any playoff run infinitely more difficult, but thankfully for you guys coach Q has an uncanny feel for the game and seems to select the right guy for the job on most nights. unless both crawford and darling become horrible each night, you guys can be competitive. minnesota are a solid team however and will fight hard, probably more challenging matchup than nashville. dubnyk is good but not invincible either I guess.
  14. Vangelis Marinakis facing four counts of racketeering SDNA reveals the indictment Marinakis' lawyer received from the investigator and which penalties await if the president of PAE Gavros is proven guilty... In accordance with SDNA's reliable information from the Euelpidon, Vangelis Marinakis has been charged on four counts in the sensational case of "criminal organization" in football, all of which are felonies. In turn, the counts that the president of PAE Gavros faces are the following: 1. Incorporating and directing a criminal organization. 2. Inciting an attempt at extortion. 3. Inciting an outburst/explosion that endangered human life. 4. Inciting bribery/graft aimed at distortion of match scores relevant to betting organizations and achieving said aims. In accordance with what the distinguished lawyer Alexandros Lykourezos said a few days ago, the first count carries a penalty of 10 to 20 years' imprisonment, while the others carry up to 10 years of imprisonment! As we have informed before, Vangelis Marinakis has, via his lawyer, received a deadline to prepare his defense by early June. SDNA is closely following the case of the "criminal organization" and will inform you of each development from the Euelpidon in a timely manner.
  15. ^2:30 for those of us on the east coast and still more than worth the watch. i predicted this series to go seven games but i think darling won't allow it.
  16. maybe if we have a russian-speaker experienced in football, savvidis would be able to learn more about what it takes to run a club. the football experience is the most important part obviously, also important IMO is that the individual loves PAOK, but a technical director who can directly communicate with the [very rich] owner might strengthen the club. plus, we get rid of vryzas, who doesn't speak russian (as far as i know) and did a crap job anyway.
  17. will be watching. i blame roman josi primarily for two of the goals chicago scored last time. he was giving too much space in the wrong areas instead of getting in the attacker's face/making a check. he was a -3 in the game, indicative of his defensive errors. if he continues to make such mistakes it will be good bye to nashville because he is their no. 2 defenseman. regardless, the games so far have been quite entertaining. i'm pretty neutral these playoffs (so long as montreal don't win) and it's actually a relaxing change of pace...
  18. ice hockey? i've been playing for a few months, do you think i could get a try out at PAOK?
  19. so we are supposedly checking out six midfield/attack and two center backs. brilliant.
  20. that for me would feel like one step forward and two steps back
