  1. Well, now we're not at risk of blooding him too quickly, amirite?
  2. My mom's side came in the mid 70's, my dad in the early 80s. I think their area had had one large "migration" that happened in the 30s, from Corfu. Whenever I go back to their church, you can definitely tell who's descended from them - they're elderly men and women who do not speak Greek at all. I'd say 90% of the people who are active in that community, are first gen like me (and their immigrant parents/grandparents). I went to the Greek-American museum in Chicago's Greektown right after it opened, and it seemed to focus on people from the 50s and (some considerably) earlier. I found it hard to relate. It seems that the diaspora grows by waves, at any rate. With the newest wave happening since the crisis (obviously). Generally more educated than the font from which I sprung.
  3. I know nearly nothing about Vergos, but him being loaned out to a segunda division club bodes well for the future, assuming he gets game time. At the risk of displeasing Doxa, I will put out a few thoughts on Pelkas - he's been a massive surprise. He was nowhere near this good his first season, and he seemed to be a non-entity while on loan last year. Everything is hugely improved, and I have no idea how this happened. Wonderful dribbler too, which means he's as fun to watch as he is effective.
  4. The kafenio is the gyradiko you were talking about? If this guy somehow gets matches there, I will literally pay rent.
  5. Thursday's game can absolutely be used to rest players like Pelkas and our defenders, and be used to give more time to Koulouris and Klaus (as we were saying a few days ago). I think ideally, we go back to last Thursday's lineup for this weekend, with a minimum of changes - these guys need to be worked in slowly, and I don't really agree that there's a lot of pressure to get them in immediately. The team is fresh and the season is long, after all. Cimirot being injured is a problem, but Kace will also be available for the next match, as he has now served his suspension.
  6. I kind of figured they'd be slowly bringing in more people across each of the next three or four transfer windows instead of this wholesale cleanout all at once. I guess we'll see, though. Tudor explicitly stated during his press conference today that they need a very good striker that will help them with teams like today's, which will need a lot more effort than normal to "unlock."
  7. Inpaok is saying Maduro has also agreed to terminate his contract, he may be heading to Groningen. They're also claiming that Toivonen has agreed terms with Arnesen, and they're waiting on Rennes to agree as well. Should know in the next day or so.
  8. Probably not, no
  9. The writing was on the wall, but it'll be sad to see the old warrior go. I guess Veria awaits.
  10. Wanna take a guess?
  11. Correct on needing those signatures, but this was actually a home match. It's heartening that we kept a clean sheet, however. Tudor being grilled by the press on the rotation, the park the bus mentality he'll be seeing in Greece, and the refs:
  12. And that's game, 0-0
  13. Mistakidis coming in for Savvidis (??)
  14. Back to back near misses by Jairo and Sabo
  15. No links Konstantinidis in for Rodrigues
  16. It's sounding like this match is a dud
  17. I'm concerned about half the team being people who've only trained together for two weeks...
  18. Cimirot being pulled for Savvidis? Already? -edit- commentators saying due to injury (probably)
  19. I've been searching but no dice. Listening on Libero http://www.e-radio.gr/Libero-1074-Thessaloniki-i208/live
  20. AEK does look like it's the bigger threat. Panathinaikos looks deliciously weak. I'm wondering how well Iraklis will do; they did win today.
  21. Papadopoulos being loaned out to Paralimni in Cyprus
  22. True. Cape Codder here. I admit that I was mistaken, I found some pictures of West Roxbury to make up for that. Please note that these are actual pictures.
  23. It's a game of fine margins.
  24. West Roxbury:
  25. So, any predictions for top five finishers this season?
