  1. My goodness, this was so gooooood. They won this game on their own; gavroi didn't lose it. Gives me high hopes for this team...  I think we've been winning 90% of the knockout games against Oly many years now, so we'll get another cup this season.

Of course, I'm not losing sight of the Euroleague and the domestic championship.......  But, maybe this team will peak on the right moment..

  2. ^^^

I agree that a coach needs some time to change the team's style. Just think that Ouzounidis had to work with so many different players every game, because of absences, injuries, transfers, and others who practically now are not on the roster.  When a new coach comes in and produces immediate results is when the team has a strong core but needs adjustments, which is not the case with O right now.

Look the season is a bust, but it was a bust before O came.

..  I think the big clubs are already eating most of the pie.  Their bellies are full.

Oh, I think on this one you're wrong my friend.....

Is this what happens in the real world??  No! Those who get most of the benefits always want more. And, they complain the most when they lose a portion of their huge slice...

Just for fun, read Forbes magazine (or any of its type). You'll see how many analysts, editors, economic players, etc, all complain about the disastrous policies that practically kill the entrepreneurial spirit, tax the job creators too much, etc. etc. Meanwhile, 90% of the economic boom since the Great Recession of the 2008-09 has been captured by the top 5%, while Wall Street has been breaking records giving bonuses to its employees, CEOs, money managers, etc. Anyway, I don't want to go into another topic...

The thing is to keep healthy competition going. Capitalism leads to monopolies unless there's oversight and regulation. Like any society that's healthy, UEFA has to make its competitions healthy. Same with national leagues. It's not fun or good for Greece that 1 team has a bigger budget than all of its competitors combined and wins 99% of the titles.

What happened to the "word" you got? :) :) :)

oh, it wasn't for this match...

that's what my source tells me..... I got on their case about those lotto numbers too and they said those are the winning numbers, but not for this week's draw!

  5. @Bananas Yeah, I'm of the same view. I've been saying for years that the gap between the top (maybe a dozen) teams and the rest is huge and getting bigger. A handful of teams have budgets greater than the whole Greek league. You can't compete with that. Maybe there's no difference in how competitive they are among teams who spend $200 and $250 million, but there's no way a team with a budget of under $10 mil. (like PAO) can compete.

Same in Greece, where Oly often had budgets bigger than all of their competitors combined.

Now, the concentration of great players in 3-4 leagues also increase the quality of the teams & leagues. This brings success and more income.

But, the titles are won only by a handful of top teams. The rest are like film extras who appear just to make the scene work.

I think UEFA is making a big mistake for allowing this to happen.  I like Bananas suggestions.  The only snag may be the definition of "foreign" player. If someone is a European citizen and part of the EU, then they can work anywhere within the EU.

  6. I have appreciated Zeca's zeal and contributions but he's hurt the team several times when he gets cards, especially when there is absolutely no reason for such. This would drive me mad if I were a coach. He's not mature to be a captain. He also appears to be a complainer, judging from his constant chatter with the refs. This would piss me off if I were a ref.\

Anyway, I think he can still contribute.

  7. Both teams aren't in good shape, but the names and history dictate this is a derby.  I think it's an open game as far a the outcome goes, but I think PAO has a slight advantage because of Leoforos and I think enough fans will show up for this game.

Moledo is out though. Koutroubis too.

  8. Anyone who runs for president or is elected and don't release their tax returns are hiding something serious.

I'm not even sure that he's being audited by the IRS. I'd ask him to at least produce the IRS audit letter. And, btw, once you're being audited, your tax returns are being examined; it's not like you release your records and then the IRS says, hmmm let's look into this again...

Some of the reasons Trump is not releasing this tax records may be: he's not as rich as he claims; he has paid little or no taxes through some schemes; has business with enemies or adversaries of the US; he's not charitable; and that he's tied to the mob...

I don't know of a more corrupt, unethical, insincere president in the last 150 years of the republic... Amazing.

  9. You're right, political correctness has provoked a backlash; and it isn't only from the right, I can tell you.

But, for me the true question is, how do we make our country a better place to live in, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender/sexual orientation, and personal belief systems?...  What are those policies that would make a happier, gentler society?

  10. oh, com'on guys, just accept it's a crappy league that offers little value as entertainment or future prospects....

if YOU had lots of money, would YOU invest*? be honest...

*Sorry, I meant spend your money, because "investing" implies a possibility of turning a profit...

  11. Yeah, it was a crime to not resign Karagounaros. Even if he was to come in for a few minutes or on rotation for cup games. I also think he should have a post within the club now. As for Leto, I heard he's willing to take the same salary (I think it's $250k year) and even pro-rated based on games he plays. He's prone to injury, so this would be a good arrangement, that is, he gets bonus money for playing certain number of games, so his salary can be low. They should keep him. Every institution should reward those who have given their best.

PAO, and other orgs, lose institutional memory when there are too many people who come an go while only few, if any, stay for a long(er) time. Who are those who have been with the team the longest? Is there anyone there for more than 4-5 years?

Buzzfeed is not a real news organization, a re Jimmy!

You're correct. But, when did the news sources matter? Anything is true if you believe it! Trump and his supporters did this all along. Payback in same currency is a bitch sometimes.  You do know that if this were about Hillary, we would never hear the end of it....  like how the Russians are blackmailing her because they have sex tapes of her and Bill, and like the underage gay sex trafficking business they're running....  Wait, we did hear that during the campaign...

  13. That's interesting you mention that term, gaslighting....

From CNN: "Mental health professionals have made much of the practice, said to be a favorite of narcissists and abusive spouses. But more recently the tactical tampering with the truth has become a preferred method of strongmen around the world. Gaslighting by other means was always a common feature of dictatorships, but it has found new vogue as a more subtle form of domestic political control even in countries with varying degrees of democracy.

Now Trump has brought it to the United States. The techniques include saying and doing things and then denying it, blaming others for misunderstanding, disparaging their concerns as oversensitivity, claiming outrageous statements were jokes or misunderstandings, and other forms of twilighting the truth."

Fortunately or unfortunately we'll have plenty of time to assess president Trump. I watched his press conference this morning and he's still not presidential. Personal attacks, picking fights with reporters, derogatory comments against anyone who doesn't think he's the greatest, and he spoke like an uneducated bar room brawler.
  14. I watched Obama's farewell speech tonight. He tried to be a uniter, above partisan politics, and kept saying he has faith in America....  Impressive speech but I think his faith in the goodness of America was cut short by this election. His legacy is to be determined.

Now, the new president is having a press conference tomorrow morning--the first one since before the nomination. What do you think he's going to say?...

.....  My point is that soccer in every country serves a purpose, unfortunately right now it is in a decline. What's not in a decline  -  Dad's who want to make memories with their kids, children who will remember these memories with their dad long after their dad has passed away.  We are all frustrated with how things are but destroying the league is not the answer.

I assume you're older... or, at least, this is not how it happens today as many sane parents wouldn't risk taking their kids to a soccer game--expensive, vulgar, low quality, and dangerous. This generation of youngsters has a lot more ways to spend time and find distractions, unlike earlier generations where football was the king of sports. Even socialization has changed because of technology and access to all sorts of entertainment venues.

  16. Why build a stadium? Have you seen attendance records? The product isn't selling; it has lost value. The sport has become mostly an outlet for frustrated men who have attached their identity to a club and see this as an activity to express their frustrations (about everything in their lives), which expression often includes violence.

Question: if any of you had, say, a big business, with an income of $100 million/year, would you buy a Greek team, and would you spend your money?

You have to take into account the present conditions, and extrapolate for the near future....

Most people are just talk no action, like most Greeks are. There are very, very few, if any, Greeks who are soooo crazy about a club and would be willing to spend vast fortunes to make it a European-caliber club. The economic conditions and the over all situation in Greece means that you'd be losing lots of money, left and right, for ever. And, you'd have fans who would still complain that you didn't spend all your money to make the club even greater!

  17. Thank you Reaper for the info. The bottom line is that Alafouzo is finding money to pay bills dating back to Tzigger and maintain an operations budget when no one, NO ONE, was (and still is) willing to step in to save the club...

  18. I said the worst thing that happened to PAO was Tzigger (not Kepetanios). That play boy who destroyed the club, left the team unprotected, and allowed others to control the Greek league. The facts are what they are. Look back and see how many titles PAO won under Tzigger.... It was the worst period in the last 100 years. He kept hiring incompetent people while firing any good one who dared to tell him the reality. He failed to build a new stadium, and in the end he was played by Tsakas like the idiot he was.

I don't understand why some of you reply that Alafouzos is worse. He is not given his means. I'm not defending his judgment. But, he saved the club--when no one wanted to touch it--from dropping to 3rd division.

Should Alafouz go? Yeah.  But not if no one else can step in. At least he pays out of his pocket. Anyone here or anywhere who can come up with a few millions $ to pay for salaries (and past obligations dating back to Tzigger and Pateras) and other club expenses, PLEASE STEP RIGHT UP!

When Tzigger was refusing to sell because he wanted a toy.... The Giannakopoulos family had expressed interest several times in buying the club.... They had lots more sense and I'm sorry that they didn't, all because of Tzigger.  Can you imagine where the club would have been with them?...

I do not know the money worth of Ala. Maybe he's a miser. But, I know Tzigger had tons of money and power, which makes his responsibility lots bigger for allowing the club to slide so much. And, he got the club when was PAO was high, unlike a third-rate team when Alafouzo steped in.

  19. I'm with you brothers, Alafouzo is incompetent and needs to go. But, as the article above says, the team is in deep debt. Ala has to cough up $5-6 million to pay some of the most pressing debts. That's ontop the heap of money he's put in.

Where are you going to find this money? Do you guys have it? Can you collect it?

Is there another rich person who wants to buy PAO but Alafouzos is refusing?  Let's be realistic here. The Greek league is corrupt, has no profit potential, offers a crappy product, etc, etc. Who would come in these days?... Please find that person asap. Do you want to go back to the days when the club couldn't get UEFA license and was a half step from 3rd ethniki?

    .....

As for those who don't remember the Tzigger years, he is the reason the club ended up where it is today. During his long tenure, the club won the fewest titles, while spending tons of money, and his worst crime, in my opinion, was that a rich & powerful person like him allowed the "paraga" to be established. Remember Rizoupoli? (one of many...)

A total incompetent moron, who was chased out because he had been so horrible for so long.
