  1. What's your definition of 'historically'? The fact that it was under Russian control from 1783 - 1954 ? The Dodecanese were part of the Ottoman Empire from 1522-1912. Do you think that the Dodecanese belong 'historically' to the Turks? Do you think the Turks will deservedly annex them? The fact is that Crimea was a part of Ukraine after 1954. Epirus incorporated into Greece after the First Balkan War of 1912?1913. Do you think Albanians can justifiably lay claim on Epirus? Sure, anybody can say anything. I don't recall Angela Merkel or Francois Hollande giving an official interview on the subject matter though. Media sensationalism should not create political opinions, but unfortunately is does. Yes, it's a war of words, and public opinion is key. However I don't see us helping ourselves with electing a leader like Tsipras heading a party like SYRIZA. They are in shambles and don't even have a unified political position. Let's not blame others for our inability to function as a nation. Let's not blame others for the fact the we do not have political leaders capable of carrying Greece out of this hole that was dug by our own corrupt politicians. We (the Greeks) have to find the will to get through and decide what it is that we want as a people. (Then we can start blaming the ...Germans :box: )

  3. You mean just like Ukraine did with the Russians by offering Crimea as a base before in was annexed? :la: Which island would you like the Russians to annex? :box: I suggest you reconsider this idea. I think mingling with Putin's Russia is bad news. But I do not have any high expectation from Tsipras and his government - it's more like let's all hope some miracle happens. I don't see him retaining his "Prime Minister" hat for very long.

  5. Anybody having problems registering should contact me. Send an email to: theforums AT phantis.com This is the the explanation that I came across for those experiencing a screen like the one above. These forums have an automated SPAM protection service (third party). It is possible that the IP address or network address of the person that tried to register has been blacklisted from this SPAM service as having been the host of Spambots in the past. There's nothing I can do about that. So, send me an email and provide with the username of your choice. I'll do my best to complete your registration as soon as I can. For those stuck in validation: Check your spam folder. That's where the validation email ends many times. If you still can get it working, send an email to the address above...
  6. Oops! It seems there was a problem with permissions. Fixed that. Try poking around again.
  7. There's a bunch of 'em here. Unless you are talking about a new forum within the basketball category.
  8. Cocksta becomes the newest PAO forum Moderator. We had a good phone conversation earlier today, and he seems like a guy that enjoys the game of soccer (and PAO course). Cocksta is going to help with breathing some new life into these forums and has my full support. Thanks Cocksta and "happy moderating"
  9. Happy New Year to all. May the new year bring joy to you and your families. Judging from the way 2014 is ending, it certainly makes for an interesting 2015. All the best.
  10. From the English edition of Kathimerini: "A court decision, announced on Wednesday morning, that dissolved the temporary administration of the team, led by Lambros Skordas, leads Aris to the resolution of its professional soccer club. That means the Yellows will now feature in one of the groups of the third division, following the path chosen last year by AEK Athens." Read the full story here How sad... A bad time in the history of a team that has offered us countless memorable moments, thrills and great players! Good luck Aris. Hope to see you back on top soon!
  11. A decent defense is the only thing the new coach inherits. Everything else should be re-evaluated and all positions should be awarded based on merit and performance. Whomever is the best player for the best position at a particular period in time. Start with that. Then build depth. Rebuilding the Greek national team takes balls. I don't know much about our new coach. It will be up to him to make the right calls. Is he a company man or is he somebody than can get us excited?
  12. Not bad for a year's worth of games, but I would take PAOK as the best for 2014 with Panathinaikos a close second, with a very strong finish. Let's not forget that they (PAOK) played decimated against you (key players unjustifiably penalized for previous game against Olympiakos) at the Greek cup final. And on top of that they started the Super League playoffs having a deficit in points. But I agree 100% with your second sentence, that "cultivating young talent that really wants to give 100% is the best recipe for success. At least in countries like Greece." Good luck to your team at next fall's Champions League tournament.
  13. Thanks for the update. He looks like a player with a bright future ahead.

  20. I don't think professional athletes have such rights. They surrender those rights as soon as they sign a contract, on the dotted line. Their actions and/or words are subject to the league's rules of conduct. At least that's the way it is in the US. Without being 100% certain, I suspect the same rules would apply to UEFA and FIFA.
  21. Ignorance is no defense. It does not stand in any court of law.
  22. EPO bans Katidis for life from any and all National Team competitions because he celebrated his goal with a Nazi salute Watch on Daily Motion The 20-year-old Katidis pleaded ignorance of the meaning of his gesture ? right arm extended and hand straightened. He claimed on his Twitter account that he detests fascism.
  23. Greek football federation announced Friday a restructuring of the top leagues starting next season with the Super League expanding from 16 to 18 teams. Read more... Every couple of years or so, the Greek league keeps switching things - reshuffling and spinning thing around. Probably so everbody stays perpetually confused. I don't think it's going to make much of a difference in terms of quality football. And honestly, I don't understand why they keep switching things around every couple of years.
  24. Gekas has been the top goalscorer of the Greek League and the Bundesliga in previous seasons. He was the top goalscorer of the Europe section of 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification for scoring ten goals in Greece's successful qualifying campaign. From Wikipedia: Need more proof? He's a gun for hire. !
  25. QUOTE (js1000 @ Feb 9 2013, 05:13 PM) another 2 today   Amazing! This man was born to score goals!
