I just heard some news on TRT, the state channel of Turkey..

Fans of Greek club PAOK, which is on the brink of official bankruptcy, attempted to organise a protest during the Salonica International Fair and had a brawl with the Greek police.

Fans tried to break into the conference hall when Greek Prime Minister Constantinos Karamanlis was delivering his speech. Fans expected the state debts of the club to be lifted.

PAOK Salonica had hard times to get their license to play in the Greek Superleague in the summer and are standing on their feet thanks to the financial contributions of the fans.

is this true??

PAOK is close to being penalized for not paying around 1.2 million Euro in old wages that they guaranteed in order to get the license to play in the Superleague.

The money is owed to Udese, Anastasiadis, and Ekgomitis. Here is the story from GoalDay.gr:

The two clowns Goumenos and Pagonis went in front of EEA (Epitropi Epaggelmatikou Athlitismou) in order to tell their story why the financial situation at PAOK is bad, and why they did not pay the 1.2 million they owe to several ex-payers and coaches.

Pagonis went before the three judges and told them that yes he is one of the major shareholders, but I he is not involved with team operations. And then he excuse himself saying that he has other things to do.

After that Goumenos went before the judges panel and told them that he needs 20 day extension, because he is in negotiations with prospective buyers and sponsors, which will bring money to the team. Not only did the judges not order him to pay the debts right away, they gave him 25 days extension.

What a joke.

FIFA has informed PAE PAOK and EPO that PAOK has 10 days to pay Rolf Fringer 200,000 Euro or they will face punishment. The punishment will be in the form of point deduction from the league standings as well as a ban on the recently transfered players.

Today the Thessaloniki newspaper metrosport has a headline saying that Giannis Goumenos will step down as a PAE PAOK president on Monday. Apparently Goumenos has told AS PAOK president Katsaris that he will quit next week.

It should be noted that Goumenos has announced several time that he is leaving the team in the past.

I better hope he keeps his word for it, for the sake of PAOK fans.

He needs more than couple hunderd thousand Euros. He needs 200K just to for Fringer until the end of next week, or FIFA will start deducting points from PAOK.

After that others will want to collect their share. He needs to come up with close to 2 million Euro just to pay what he owes to ex-players, coaches. After that by end of November he needs to come up with 6 million Euro in order to increase the operating budget.

The other problem he is facing is that nobody wants to lend him any money. No sponsors are coming close to PAOK. Everybody seems to be boycotting PAOK knowing very well that PAOK is a sinking ship under Goumenos.
