It's time for the Americans to represent and show the world that we are a soccer power waiting to happen!!! I was at the friendly in Cleveland on friday and this team is getting support from all over. It's about time people come and show support for this team. Let's go USA!!! Sorry fellas I live here in the US and the buzz at this time of the year is NOT about their National Team it's about the NBA PLayoffs and what's going on w/ the Baseball season. I guarantee you all if you were to walk on the streets of NY or any other major city and asked about 50 people what Natioanl Team is going to play in a mjor tournament this summer 65% wouldn't know... Yeah the support is there from a handful of fans (as myself) but when the US gets a TRUE backing of their fans in major numbers I'm sorry to say that the sport will never do as well as people will expect. One reason why that is is becasue the NBA and MLB and the NFL don't want to see this sport rise and become one of the top sports in America... Now! as far as them doing well this summer... MMMMMM I don't think so, they have a youngf team and that's what's going for them at the moment. Do they have great players? SUUUURE they do. Johnson is fast as hell, Onyewu is amazing, Convey is great, Dempsey, Gibbs also great players.. with the exception of Brian Ching who is crap poacher ( i dont mind these players because usually they have basic skills but Ching is a bad passer, no vision, and no outside shot, making him useless for anything but close range finishes..) i think the US has a much better side now than in 2002.... watch out czechs! I cannot see them even staying close to the Italians in matchday 2 but they could beat Ghana if they take advantage of the mistakes their players make. I actually did watch the friendlies and there are definitly good players that is undeniable. Convey, Onyewu, Beasely, Dempsey, Johnson are players wed be lucky to have come to the Greek League thats for sure...The USA coach however is finished... He didnt prepare the team well for this game at all... Tactically they were just destroyed...they were giving too much space to players like Nedved and allowed him to open up the defense...and on offense the players 2nd half got better chances were starting to be made but the Czechs had it all ready... They were maybe taking this game a lot more seriously than the US was taking it. and the lineups, strategy (lack thereof) were just crap.....you are seriously going to put Eddie Pope whos never played outside the US to stop players like Jan Koller while leaving Bocanegra of Fulham on the bench nevermind Conrad who is in better form and stronger.....that didnt last...They put other players out of position and Convey is a great offensive player but defensively to stop Poborsky or Grygera thats just not happening... why wasnt there any plan to shutout Nedved??? well see vs Italy but its doubtful they can beat them now... it will take some really smart strategy to just get a tie and contain them.....not happening from Arena. darkhorse------ wow....lost to Czech Rep. Italy are very good this year and I could see them going through to at least the semis if not the finals. Ghana are also good and they won't mess around. They have a better team than the US. pao123 Posted June 21, 2006 Share Posted June 21, 2006 the only player i will agrue aagainst you ethnikistis is Convey..the boys got talent man..i know, i have played against him...haha...i have seen him at reading and he is a player with lots of quality but more impoartantly POTENTIAL..the boy is young but he has got the will and the ability to become a great player..hes quick, smart and has good technique which is more then i can say for many other of the us players...onewyu is just big, hes tall and massive..he's young, but his positioning is weak and his skills are sub par...beasley may have been the leading cl scorer for psv but im not sure how many starts he saw in the league..if i rememeber crrectly it was not too many..he is a good player but has issues with consistancy and size..he is quick but gets pushed off the ball too easily..he is a good substitue for when defenses are alittle more ired because hes got alittle pace... overall, i have played football (soccer as the us calls it) in europe and in the us and must say that in the past 10 or so years the us has made progress but is much much much behidn the european and this can be attributing to the different styles in the teaching and the learning of the game...european rely much more of technique and vision where as in america, fitness and being able to push people off the ball is much more prevelant..this also has to do with cultural differences but unless the us produce players with much more technical quality, i cant see the us completing on the world stage... the qualification for the us is a joke too, which attributed to their high ranking as well...they should be tens of steps dwn in the rankings but becasue they constantnly play teams such as jamaica and guatemala their ranking increase but their quality decreases..even the easiest qualification group for a european team is more difficult then qualification for the united states..which they had some trouble with if i rememeber correctly last year...
