Olympiakosthyra7
This is not going to stop PAOK from winning. Wednesday, August 11, 2004 PAOK penalised for suspended player ATHENS, Aug 11 (Reuters) - PAOK Salonika were penalised by UEFA on Wednesday for fielding a suspended player in a Champions League qualifier against Maccabi Tel Aviv, the club announced. PAOK lost Tuesday's home third qualifying round match 2-1 but that result was annulled and Maccabi have been awarded a 3-0 first-leg victory instead. The penalty related to midfielder Liasou Louka who appeared as a second half substitute for the Thessaloniki club. PAOK communications director Dimitris Giannopoulos resigned after admitting to local media that no one had checked a list of suspended players sent to the club ahead of the first leg. The player was carrying a suspension from a European outing four years ago with previous club Nea Salamina. The Greeks still have the second leg to play on August 24. Batigol
Drakos I think you're right. In this situation the player should have spoken up and told the coaching staff and administration what his status was. Very irresponsible for him to simply "forget"...if that is what he did. At the same time however, the coaching staff also has a responsibility to know the status of each and every player on the team. The fact that they didn't, shows a measure of irresponsibility themselves.
tihio10
I totally agree with your Batigol. In this scenario, PAOK did deserve the penalty given by UEFA. PAOK should of know about Louka and his suspension, and they didn't so it cost them in the end. Hopefully PAOK can now win in Tel-aviv 4-0  .
