A new Scandinavian league featuring the top four sides from Denmark, Norway and Sweden will kick off on 20 November this year.

Press conferences

The football associations of the three countries and representatives from their leading clubs unveiled the new competition - called the Royal League - at press conferences in Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm today.

'UEFA does not object'

The tournament, which has been approved by UEFA, will run from November 2004 to April 2005. A UEFA spokesman said: "UEFA does not object to a proposal such as this, which is for a tournament during the close season. It is an initiative which will keep Scandinavian players active during the winter months."

Good news for the Scandinavian Teams

I hope the BeneLiga will follow soon.

This is an iniatieve of former Anderlecht Manager Michel Verschueren.

He wants a competition with the best Dutch and Belgian teams.

The big teams in Belgium support him but the idea faces big resistance of the minor teams here.

The Dutch teams weren't intrested at first, but now their European performances these years are the worst in decades, this lack of interest seems to change.

Does anyone know of the indoor league that runs through the winter in Germany? I've seen a little of it on eurosport, and it seemed to be very popular. We used to have 5 and 6 a side tournaments in both England and Scotland, but these are now restricted to ex-players competitions.
