2 weeks from now the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championship will be held in Glasgow, United Kingdom. I don't believe there are going to be many Greeks to compete, some of the top names can't qualify via entry standard. Polyniki Emmanouilidou is the closest getting an indoor PB of 7.24, need 7.19 to get in.

Right now only Tentoglou and Stefanidi have the entry standards to take part in the championships. Tentoglou will take par, while Stefanidi will decide if she will travel to Scotland.

Any other Greek participations are possible only through official invitations from IAAF. Chances are good that  Pesiridou will receive one. Another slim possibility is Gousin.

Perhaps Emmanouilidou has a slim chance too to get in either world ranking or wild card. Gusin rankings boosted tremendously.

Six additional athletes received invitation to participate n the World Championships in Glasgow.

So we have the following 8 athletes:

60 M: Nyfantopoulos
60 M HURDLES: Douvalidis
POLE VAULT: Karalis
LONG JUMP: Tentoglou

60 M: Emmanoulidou
60 M HURDLES: Pesiridou
HIGH JUMP: Gousin
POLE VAULT: Stefanidi

That's a pretty good group of athletes there. Sadly, we will only see 1 medal from Tentoglou. Karalis can win a medal if he can reach 5.90 m, which would be a new NR indoor for him. It will be interesting to see how Emmanouilidou, Gusin and Nyfantopoulos will all do in their World Indoor debut.

The Greek Athletics Federation added Dimitrios Tsiamis into the squad right before the deadline. Now Greece has 9 athletes to compete in Glasgow.

Today's results for Greek athletes:

60m Men: Qualifying Heats:  4. Nyfantopoulos  6.74 sec.  (overall place 29th)

Hight Jump woman: Final:  7. Gusin  1.88m

Tentoglou is a two time World Indoor Champion! He beat Italy's Mattia Furlani on countback, both of them finished at 8.22, Tentglou bettered him with the second best jump at 8.19 to Furlani's 8.10. Carey McLeod of Jamaica made it interesting after landing 8.21 on his fifth jump to settle for bronze.

In track, Douvalidis finished 27th place overall at 7.79 sec
Emmanouilidou finished 28th place overall at 7.27 sec
She was a bit unlucky, she could have taken third place and automatic spot to the semifinals just losing out to Poland's Magdalena Stefanowicz by 0.01 sec (7.26).

Stefanidi finished 7th place at 4.55 m, her best days are over.
Tsiamis finished 14th place at 15.95 m, he should retire for good.
Pesiridou finished 34th place at 8.28 sec, never had a chance to advance past the heats.

Karalis is our last Greek athlete to compete in Glasgow, he will need go over 5.85 to stand a chance at a medal. The heights in the men's pole vault today will be 5.50, 5.65, 5.75, 5.85, 5.90.

Karalis gets the bronze medal at the men's pole vault finishing at 5.85 m, which is his season's best.
Greece finishes the competition with 2 medals. A great way to end this. Next stop will be the European Athletics Championship in Rome, Italy.

Karalis was a pleasant surprise. Did not expect him to medal. Hopefully this will give him a self-confidence boost so he can start jumping over 5.80 meters on regular basis.

Tentoglou super as usual. Let's see if he can finally get a big jump and brake the Greek record, which stands at 8.66 meters.

Karalis seems to perform very well indoors. It's funny he has yet to qualify in the finals in either the European or World Championships. His bronze medal is much tougher to achieve than Filippidis did in 2014 when he won gold in Sopot, Poland without much of top stars in that compeition. Karalis had more competition and fought against the top athletes in pole vault like Duplantis, Kendricks, Nielsen, Obiena, etc.

As for Tentoglou, I think he is due to achieve that Greek National Record outdoors. He will need plenty of meets to perform to have any chance. I love to see him repeat as Olympic Champion which has not happened since Carl Lewis from 1984-1996, 4 titles in the row.

So far, it appears only 3 Greeks will qualify for the World Indoor Athletics Championship in Nanjing, China.
Of course they are Emmanouilidou, Tentoglou, and Karalis.
I don't mind this since they are the only Greek athletes who always perform at there best.

True, and only Tentoglou and Karalis have a chance of getting a medal, although it appears that Tentoglou is not at his best form lately.

True that Tentoglou is struggling so far in the 2025 indoor season, it may be possible he could pick up at the right time. There is a chance Dimitra Tsoukala could join Emmanouilidou in the women's 60 meters. She is currently at 56th place, the final qualifying spot. She would need to improve her personal best of 7.30 to potentially locked in for Nanjing.

Tsoukala moved up to 55th place in the qualifying list for the women's 60 meters

It's all set, Tentoglou, Karalis, and Emmanouilidou are going to Nanjing, China. The qualifying period has ended yesterday. Any additional athletes to be added to the Greek National Team will be announced tomorrow. I think Dimitra Tsoukala or Andrea Mita are the top candidates. If Mita is selected, I doubt he will go since he is currently committed to staying in Houston as a student athlete. Besides, he has a NCAA indoor track and field coming up this weekend to compete in.

Looks like Dimitra Tsoukala and Sofia Iosifidou are the wild cards for the World Indoor Athletics Championship.

Here are my predications for the Greek athletes in this competition
On the men's side, I see Karalis get silver and Tentoglou get bronze (because he is not in top form, but still could medal).
On the women's side, Emmanouilidou should qualify for the semifinals and possibly get a new PB. If she runs under 7.14, she will become the second fastest Greek woman ever in the 60 meters. Both Tsoukala and Iosifidou will not make it out of the heats and will not get a new PB.
