Here is an English article from Reuters about the Castillo situation:

Sanchez hoping to persuade Castillo to play for Mexico

MEXICO CITY, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Mexico coach Hugo Sanchez said on Tuesday he was hopeful of winning the battle with Uruguay to secure the services of Olympiakos Piraeus striker Nery Castillo.

Castillo, 22, was born in Mexico of Uruguayan parents and raised in Uruguay where he began his career with Danubio as a 15-year-old. He moved to Greece one year later to join Olympiakos.

"We're confident... he will accept the invitation and join the squad," Sanchez told reporters on Tuesday on his second day of training the team.

"Nery fits in well, because he's fast and he's a player with a goalscoring instinct," added Sanchez. "I'm counting on him."

Mexico and Uruguay both tried to persuade Castillo to play for them two years ago but the player said he needed more time to decide on his choice.

Sanchez, who has brought 26 players together for a training camp, is due to name his squad next week for his first match in charge, away to the United States on Feb. 7.

Sanchez, widely regarded as the finest player Mexico has produced, was appointed coach in November after years of lobbying for the job.

He previously coached Mexico City club Pumas UNAM, where he won two successive Mexican titles, and provincial club Necaxa.

I'm kinda surprised he didn't want to play for Uruguay, seeing as his parents are Uruguayan and he was raised there. Oh well. Its his decision not ours, and I never thought he should play for Greece. Especially with his lack of citizenship and the 1 million euro incentive. If he'd did his stint in the millitary and fufilled the requirements to get his citizenship the normal way, then thats a different story. But oh well, I hope this settles it and Sanchez is successful.

According to media reports, Castillo could still become Greek and play for our NT.

Fifa did not recognize the USA - Mexico friendly. Even if Neri played, it would not count.

The BIG question is, does he want to play for Greece.

The answer to that is NOOOO.

Mexico is in the world's easiest confederation the, CONCACAF.

They, and the USA are pretty much guaranteed to make the word cup EVERY time.

Castillo wants to play in the world cup, and he will get his best chance with Mexico.

Why would he not choose Uruguay otherwise?

This is not about sentiments, but exposure.

PEACE

why would anyone want an opportunist on their NT. It is unbelielable that a player would be weighing their options about which team to play for. You dont play for money or exposure, you play for the shirt you wear. This m****pano plays for himself.

Yeah but the fact that he's in Greece playing his soccer and he's comfortable w/ the Greek language and many other things, he's the perfect fit.

The only reason why this guys might go to Mexico is because he'll get the exposure and you would do the same exact thing...

he will most likely play for mexico because he wouldnt want the media labelling him as a back stabber to hsi country. he probably would want to play for greek but because of pressure he will play for mexico

If anything he was feeling for the Greek side (media, fans, etc). He WANTS to play for Mexico.

Olympiakos' Uruguayan striker Neri Alberto Castillo received word earlier today that he is eligible to play in Greece's version of "El Classico" when Olympiakos goes head-to-head with cross town arch-rivals Panathinaikos.

Olympiakos' appeal to reduce Castillo's red card suspension from three games to one was approved earlier today by the Greek Sports Appeals court . Castillo served his one match suspension this past weekend when the Greek champions played Ergotelis in Matchday 23 of the Greek Super League so he is eligible to play in the upcoming derby.

Olympiakos coach Takis Lemonis has ecstatic with the decision as Castillo is part of the team's starting line-up and will certainly give a different twist to the game.

The EPO press release read: "Based on the most recent Appeals committee meeting the following decisions have taken place: 1) The committee has approved the appeal of player Neri Castillo under court number 49/2007 of the PE/Super League Hellas 2007 and has reduced the suspension from three games to one."

I think that we all have to agree that the decisions by EPO in whole are CRAP!

You and I and everyone knows that it was a terrible decision but should we expect anything better from EPO?

We shouldn't be blaming players for their reactions we shouldn't blame fans for their reactions

WE NEED TO BLAME EPO

Guys was this the red card that he got for no reason? When he was tackled from behind or another 1?

Yes the Greek protathlima is a farce and a joke and corrupt and many harsher desctiptions can be used.

However, how about Italy and their farcical systems and rules which allow clubs to get banned and fined and points dedcuted but then are either overturned or reduced to miniscule proportions?

In Greece we are Italia lite. Tis idies ideas kai aidies pou kanoun oi italoi emeis pame apo piso.

Whether its running their leagues or the stupid "ultra" fans causing violence....we will follow them and ultimately out do their incompetence and mindlessness.

If there is a model we need to follow as an example of what and where we should be, its the English Premier League (of organisation and professionalism - not football wise).
