Greece at #54 and Finland are one spot behind us. We have to win the last 2 NL matches.

Europa: PAOK-Omonoia (22 Oct. 2020, Toumba Stadium, Thessaloniki)
Ellada2004 replied to Omonoia9's topic in AC Omonoia
Will be an interesting match, it will be hard for PAOK to break down Omonoia as I think they will sit back for the most part. -
I say give Kotsiras a chance he has been playing well for Asteras and he has some experience with the NT being capped twice.

For sure Pelkas offers more than Bakasetas. I cant wait to see Retsos make his return to the Ethniki as well..

When JVS came in we can all agree the NT looked fantastic with the style of play he implemented. In those Euro qualifiers the team created so many quality scoring chances especially vs Bosnia and no one was use to seeing the NT play with such attacking vigor. Now in the NL we have seen a couple sub par performances vs Slovenia and vs Kosovo a game which Greece should definitely have won and I think we would have won had a couple changes to the lineup had been made as you noted. Overall JVS is doing a good job lets not forget that after Santos left the coaches that followed only won a single match in the 2016 Euro qualification on the last matchday Going forward he has to see that Fortounis is a starter on the NT no doubt about it and he needs to make a few other changes that should give the team wins in the upcoming NL games.

A good article. When Rehhagel & Santos we’re coaching the NT Greece were beating a lot of the lesser footballing nations by 1-0 but they were also beating European powerhouses such as Portugal, Czech Republic, Croatia and Spain who Greece beat in Zaragoza in 2003 and since that time Spain has not lost a competitive match in Spain. We all want to see the team play an attractive and more attacking style of football but at the end of the day if Greece get the 1 nil victories that we were use to seeing that ultimately led us to qualifying for 2 World Cups and 3 Euros and winning a Euro I will be very happy with that.

Ya I hear this as well on Georgiou radio show & Ante Geia the Olympiakos backers keep saying how has JVS kept him off the starting 11. They are also saying the EPO is behind some of JVS decisions on who to play as to showcase the AEK or PAOK players for possible future transfers. Fortounis was really dangerous vs Austria and had a nice finish on the goal. JVS better realize Fortounis should start and not risk losing him.

JVS has the team playing attractive attacking football and creating many Grade A scoring opportunities. Our problem is finishing them off. We need a go to #9 like when we had Mitroglou to put away that one good chance. Hopefully Fountas can be that next guy. The NT has a great young pool of talent to draw from going into the World Cup qualifiers let’s hope they step it up and stay injury free. Also JVS must put the best 11 on the pitch and the players in there natural positions so we can succeed. Greece are also going to need to be lucky in the draw and avoid a powerhouse Pot 1 team which there are quite a few and the toughest Pot 2 side like say Italy. Looking forward to the last 2 NL games. Greece have to beat Moldova and then get a win in Athens vs Slovenia to top the group.

Agreed with Bakasetas he cant be starting on the NT and Fortounis sits? It makes no sense Bakasetas has no vision he has a strong shot but cant place his shots well and he missed the penalty. Fortounis has great vision, dribbling and all the technical ability and can deliver from set pieces but he comes on in the 78th minute when we need a goal? Hopefully that changes before he gets pissed off and says no to playing for the NT. Tzavellas starting these matches after a two and half year absence from the NT was perplexing. As for Pavlidis in the 1st half vs Kosovo he got his chances but he couldn't convert aside from the goal he scored that was then ruled offside. I still think he should get a callup but I would like JVS to start Fountas and see if he can deliver.

You are right about Kourbelis and Zeca if JVS takes one out for say Galanopoulos that would benefit us. As for Donis if he can get back to form he has shown that he is dangerous in attack taking on defenders with his dribbling, I hope we can see him back in the fold. As for Fetfa I have always backed him a tremendous attacking talent but it seems his attitude has possibly done him in as he was late for a team meeting and it looks like JVS might not give him another call up.

Well Slovenia took there chances and scored on 2 penalties. When they come to Greece it will be a closely contested match as was the first meeting. Slovenia have not conceded a goal yet with Jan Oblak in goal probably there best player. I think Greece will come out and attack as they did today vs Kosovo. Hopefully they can get a goal past Oblak.

J1078 right on with the so called “fans”that come on here after the games and seem to be happy that Ethniki didn’t win or get a result. Like I said before they might be long suffering fans of say a Canada or El Salvador for example and have never seen footballing success like Greece who have won a major ? and have qualified for 3 World Cups while they’re used to seeing there countries qualification hopes are usually caput after the first cycle of qualifying. Anyways screw them ?

We definitely have to come in first in this group there is no France, Spain or other powerhouse nation in this group. Also from a confidence standpoint Greece need to have 1st going into World Cup qualifiers. That said there are 2 games left and Greece should beat Moldova and then it comes down to beating Slovenia at home. I am just annoyed that we couldn’t find a single goal today it’s reminiscent of the games vs Estonia and Faroes. The first half the team played fluid football and we should have been up 2 goals by half. Bakasetas has been better of late but he can’t finish even misses a pk that changed the complexion of the match, maybe he’s a tad unlucky with the NT who knows but JVS should not start him going forward. Pavlidis is working hard and has technical ability but he can’t finish some simple goals in the 6 yard box maybe the nerves are getting to him? I say let Fountas start and see if he can be the guy to finish off the chances. The commentator mentioned under JVS that we are playing better and are tough to beat since he has been in charge. I just hope he makes some changes that will make the NT much better no more Tzavellas, Bouchalakis please. Fortounis should have started if he’s on the pitch and takes the pk it’s a goal. Also maybe JVS has a talk with Manolas and sees if he will buy into his way of how he wants the NT to play, function etc. and maybe he comes back and it makes us much better in the back. Also we are missing Tsimikas and if Donis is in form there is another key piece. There is time to fix some of the issues and let’s all hope we have the best starting 11 and bench players come March because we have to make the World Cup anything else is unacceptable.
