Who Will Replace Mitroglou After He Retires?
georgelaz replied to Dean97's topic in Greek National Teams
Mitro's playing style is like the Greek Ibra. Strength / Shooting / Positioning. This type of striker is good up till 35ish. So I think we're good for a while. I don't think we'll get someone at Mitroglou's quality for a while but we have a bunch of decent ones. I really liked Klaus when he was in form. I don't know how and why he faded away. -
wow I forgot about aris as a club. they gotta get back in the superleague. they were pretty good in the 2000s
-
how many teams from league c can qualify for the final tourny?
-
I think we need 2 cdm's against stronger competition and deep laying tachtsidis would be better and he's left footed. Kone still has a lot to prove to be selected over Mantalos and Laz. Laz I think would be better than Pelka on the wing and play Donis on RW. totally forgot about Laz in my lineup Mitroglou Laz Mantalos Donis Samaris Zeca Staf Sokratis Manolas Torosidis Karnezis Fortounis is pretty outta form so I might leave him out for now. Though he'll rise up again fo sho. Samaris need to get back into shape. Maybe downgrading to a less competitive team. Samaris, Fortounis being out of form during the campaign was a big loss for us. Even though I'm a Pao fan, Pao is now a mid table Greek team so I'm not even sure if we should consider anyone from PAO now... eg) Kourbelis, Kolovetsios, Villafanez. Though Mantalos was selected even when AEK was second division. Good eye too Ranieri.
-
Mitroglou Fortounis Mantalos Donis Samaris Zeca Staf Sokratis Manolas Torosidis Karnezis might be solid too provided everyone is in form. Fortounis plays LW for olympikos sometimes. I think Fortounis LW Mantalos CAM is better than Fortounis CAM and Mantalos RW. In addition Donis can play RW as a natural position.

fortounis and pelkas are not wingers. Laz in current form I agree. Gianniotas I don't agree. Fetfa at least played about 22 games a season for oly and enough to draw attention to go to italy. Gianniotas couldn't break into starting 11 at all. Gianniotas was in good form at Apoel though.
-
pretty sure fetfa is getting paid 10x more than he would in europe. berg and witsel are both in their prime. Berg had one of his best seasons before he left. he def has a lazy tinge but you can't really make pro football if you're lazy... though there def is different work rates. eg) zeca is an engine. fetfa assisted against barca playing for al-falafel. class is class.
-
still think fetfa should be in the picture. axel wixel starts for BELGIUM playing club in China and Berg for SWEDEN (that qualified over italy. ) playing club football in arabia imagine fetfa and donis on the wings. ladies and gentlemen we'd have a midfield. at least we have laz but we don't have the depth in winger position to be picky about fetfa. laz, donis, fetfa, gianniotas should be our main wingers pelkas and villafanez I think could also do a good job on the wing. chatzigiovannis up and coming possible winger.
-
with Laz and Donis on the wings we'll be okay. We need a decent third in case one of them is out. Think we'll see something like this... Mitroglou/Karelis Laz Fourtounis/Mantalos Donis Tachtsi/Samaris Zeca Staf Sokratis Manolas Toro/Bakakis Karnezis/Anestis possibly Kone second striker. 3ATB with Kpaps would be nice and possible with Bakakis coming up. Staf and Bakakis are engines.

I have a feeling he's gunna get into some top form. If Kone get get his 2014 form back he'd be AEKs best player hands down and possibly best player in the league.

kone with an outside box cracker for AEK. AEK is looking really good this season, might win the league and go deep in europa
-
yeah world cup tries to make it more of a mix rather than simply the best teams out there. If it was the best 32 teams I'd wager 25 would be from europe 5 from south america and the last 2 spots up for grabs. netherlands, italy, turkey, greece, wales should all be there. edit: that was knee jerk post 25 from europe might be on the high end lol.

skibbe's selections are not so bad when we everything is going correct. Ie his favourites are in form and no injuries. his ideal lineup with no injuries Mitroglou Staf Fortounis Donis Samaris Zeca Tzav Sokratis Manolas Toro Karnezis if we weren't plagued with injuries + out of forms it's a good lineup. It's when we got players out that he shits the bed. BUT if you look at our left flank. You can't tell me Fetfa LW and Holebas LB wouldn't have been a class higher than tzav/staf. That's really my only issue with his top game sheet. His second team s%$#! is atrocious but also remember we are a top heavy team.
-
Samaris, if he can get his form back, is on paper our best cdm. We really shouldn't be playing out of form players. I think one of the biggest sticking points to our NT past years as we can never get an 11 that's in form. euro campaign Mitro was out of form for most of it. this campaign fortounis, and samaris out of form for most of it. If anything, we should just play starts from the big 4 in the superleague rather than playing out of form players in the bigger leagues. eg) pelkas, kourbelis, bakakis what ever happened to petsos? lol kone hit the post for aek last play. bakasetas with a header goal http://superleaguegreece.novasports.gr/VideoId/48429/

siopis at cb? you mean cdm? siopis is like 5'4 lol
-
i remember when playing colombia the colombian players said that kone was the only player they feared... he was on some crazy form circa 2014. we might have gotten way further if he didn't get injured world cup... holebas speaks english quite well, surprised. watford is 8th in premier league and he's a key player. such a shame he's gone.
-
holebas is 33 and plays like he's 25. Wonder if him taking time off of football prolonged is shelf life or something... fetfa should be in the squad. imagine him and donis on the wings. we'd be dangerous. zeca and kourbelis dm right now i'm really feeling mitro Fetfa Fortounis Donis Kourbelis Zeca Holebas Sokratis Manolas Toro Karnezis Tachtsidis instead of Kourbelis when playing smaller teams. notable mentions gianniotas as bench winger mantalos as a CAM only Karelis when Mitro unavailable Kpaps if any of our 2 are injured Samaris if he gets his form back Staf the obvious option as we probably won't see holebas back Retsos wouldn't mind doing 3atb but we don't have the fullbacks Villafanez. Can play as a winger effectively even tho he's a 10 and he has a greek grandfather so he can do it up. the actual big black spot is RB when toro retires. Guess Bakakis is next best thing and AEK is doing great that season. Aek holding Milan 0-0 twice this season and leading the league. hopefully they can keep form cuz they field the most greek players out of the big four right now. torosidis had big praises for galanopoulos... anyone seen him play? worth a look? aek is gunna regularly be playing mantalos laz kone bakasetas galanopoulos klonaridis anestis bakakis
-
kone apparently looked good in europa coming on as a sub. don't let the 2-2 fool u. Aek nearly made it 4-2
-
pretty sure he was injured during that game too. Remember it was Glykos who started one of the game in the group stage... might have been wiser to keep with glykos as he played well. The poor man's Ryan gosling lol

Kostas Mitroglou ‒ (now playing for Aris)
georgelaz replied to js1000's topic in Greek Players Abroad
unfortunately they're out of the picture and I think they were more raw talent than actual good training but I cant be sure. it's a shame because Ninis and Mitroglou had the best chemistry. Fortounis and Mitroglou do not.
