  1. That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. So he wasted time to get a yellow. It was too his advantage to do so and his team was up so it made sense. It was the smart move based on his current situation. When you get yourself into a favourable position you are entitled to take advantage of it. Belgium could have used a 3rd team against Bosnia and there would be nothing the Greek team could have done about it. They didn't but the point is that they could have since they had the group locked up. Fifa should get a yellow card for wasting time on such a silly thing. And they do it now. Why not make the declaration right after the group phase was over. Hopefully this lights a spark under the Greek team.
  2. 2-1 Final 3 guys for Greece suspended for next game but it's Gibralter. Waiting for outcomes of games with Scotland- Slovenia, Ukraine-Croatia, Wales - Ireland and NIR - Norway. Good luck to the team
  3. Mitro looks like he is out of gas. Maybe he'll be the next change. Greece seems to be playing back at this stage with 10 minutes left. Not always a good move to play so defensive.
  4. Solid finish by Mitro to tie it up and then I great header to make it 2-1 Greece. http://www.stream2watch.cc/livenow/football/cyprus-vs-greece-live-stream Watching it on this stream on 2nd channel - first didn't work for me. Have your anti virus program working - Lots of warnings
  5. But Belgium would only need a tie to help Greece out and I don't think their coach wants to lose that game. They might sit out a few of their top guys but they still would have a decent team and those guys will want to prove themselves. Belgium looking for a 3rd goal and have the pressure on. Greece need to take some chances, More goals against mean nothing here.
  6. 2-1 Belgium All three goals were good plays. Shot by Belgium . Great cross and boot in by Zeca Another great cross - by Belgium and header finish Greece have been playing well. If this Belgium teams play against Bosnia then they will win on the road and Greece will still get 2nd place. This game is not over yet. Still over 10 minutes to go. Would be great to get this one tied. Like the way the team is playing against a highly ranked team.
  7. Possession time for the team has not been good in the 2nd half. Need to control the ball and make the right play. A change or two needs to happen to spark this team now.
  8. I like what I"ve seen so far. Estonia is play 5-4-1 and it's almost a 9-1. Hellas needs to stay patient and I like the way they passed the ball from side to side a few times making all their defense run. This could tire them out for later in the game. Three good chances and two great saves by the Estonia goalie. Could have easily been 2-0. Keep this possession play up and something good will happen.
  9. Greece lost to the Faroe Islands in recent times. They are in no position to view any team lightly. That said I think you'll see a team manufacture a good win. 2-0 or 3-1 comes to mind. I'd prefer the shutout over the extra goal as it sends a message to Belgium that goals will be hard to come by in Athens.
  10. Well I didn't see the game but I did go through all the highlights provided here. Good win. The Dutch are the Dutch. Never a weak team even though they rested some regulars. They and their home crowd didn't want to lose and the Greeks came away with the victory. Regarding Mitroglou. I am really hoping this guy is starting to show the same heart that Gekas provided as a striker. Gekas was not a big man but he was fearless. Mitro has some size and if he adopts that same level of guts that Gekas had then he can be a real force up front. The Dutch defender wanted nothing to do with him on that header goal. Great set up by the way. At least we now know the days of losing to the Faroe Islands are behind us. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. Let's see how this team does with a clean slate and I predict a solid victory in game one. Something like 3-0 and then the team takes it easy. I don't see them as trying to run up the score even if it is the right thing to do for tiebreaker purposes.
  11. Good for Tsipras. Don't let the Euro-dudes get away with everything. For what it's worth, Kevin O'Leary was on CFRB in Toronto this past week ( he is a self made billionaire) and he stated that Greece is better off in the longer term by leaving the Eurozone. He specifically said that Greece should tell Merkel and Company to go and pound sand and not give them any money. Greece will go through a living hell and will need humanitarian relief but O'Leary stated that it's an opportunity for a country like Greece to reboot and get it right. He also mentioned that once they go to the Drachma and it gets devalued than he and many others will start to buy property in Greece and that's one way to restart an economy. Heck I'm even sure many Germans would buy a villa on the islands. Again, that's one billionaire's point of view who puts his money where his mouth is. My own personal biggest fear is that whatever happens, in or out, recovery sooner or later, that the old guard like Papandreou and the other families come back into power and screw it all up again. The culprits started it all in the 1980s. This point cannot be diminished.
  12. This changing of the Finance ministers reminds me of a Good Cop / Bad Cop thing. Many work places use this technique in Canada. Varoufakis is the bad cop in this scenario with his replacement being the good cop. Just a random observation on my part. It may not have anything to do with the actual negotiations or results.
  13. Greece got the NO vote and sent a clear message. Let them have a party tonight but their true resolve will be tested in the next few weeks and months. None of us truly know what will happen. I've heard the term "uncharted waters" several times by media outlets. I hope that none of the political leaders take this in a personal way and just address the issues at hand. Will there be debt relief? Can Greece reform and eliminate the oligarchs? What will other EU countries do and demand?
  14. I haven't posted on the Greek Economic forum because as a person living in Canada I don't think I can truly appreciate all that is going on in Greece and in Europe in general. I will say that I have heard on a radio station in Toronto from a well known financial guru that Greece has in fact been printing their own currency for some time. Maybe it was a backup plan but it does seem suggestive to me that Greece is moving out of the Euro. I also think a vote is a good idea even if the average citizen in Greece doesn't completely know the full ramifications. My "gut feeling" ( as I'm not an economy expert) is that Greece should leave the Euro currency. I don't see how adding more to the debt load each year with only "nudge nudge wink wink" promises of future investment and growth will get the country out of a bankrupt situation. Sometimes it's better to take a deep drop and hit rock bottom so you can begin the painful climb back up. At least you'll have the sense of accomplishment along the way. Greece is still a beautiful country no matter what the outcome and they will survive no matter how long it takes. I feel for my relatives there and the people in Greece in general.
  15. Well I didn't get a chance to see the match until the last few minutes when Greece scored to make it 2-1. Reality has now set in for the team and perhaps it's better now than later. What this result means ( along with the Hungary win) is that Greece is officially out of the Euro Championship for 2016. The good news is that Greece has ever reason now to go with a young squad and I mean really young. You have to ask which players you want around for 2018. Greece may not be a top tier squad year in / year out like Spain but they are now about as good as Moldolva. Something is quite wrong and they have to start from scratch. Let the house cleaning begin. and Congrats to the Faroe Islands as it's their first sweep of a team in Euro play ever I believe so give them some credit.

  17. I forgot about the playoffs if you are the third seed in your group. Eight third seed teams qualify and I think there are nine groups. (so one team is left out) Just looking at the Group itself it will be difficult to qualify. Hungary basically has to tie or lose to Finland and then lose to both N. Ireland and Romania. N. Ireland and Romania has to beat or tie Finland and then Greece has to win out. Winning out includes wins over Hungary and Finland. Any more ties for Greece and then are done. It's possible that it could go down to the last qualifying game against Hungary at home in October. If by some miracle they do qualify then the team will be on an upswing going into the tournament. When the next two games are completed for all squads we'll know a lot more as to where the team stands.
  18. Greece have given a good effort today but they are inept offensively. It's probably best that they are officially eliminated today from the Euro 2016. Now the team can just focus on changing their style to include some skill play up front. Still way too many long passes and a real lack of finishing skills. Some players may be injured but they are the older players the team needs to see the younger players.
  19. Really surprised that Hungary has played back most of the game. They need the points as much as Greece and this is a home game for them. We'll see if any team gets tired in the 2nd half. So far the edge goes to Greece.
  20. Well I didn't see the game and perhaps it was best to have missed it. I thought that the new coach had a plan in place but I didn't realize it was just to get fired and get his buyout and supplement his retirement. Greece is all but out of the Euros for 2016. How does a team make the final 16 at the world cup and not even qualify for the Euros. Very, very bizarre. Very sad for all the fans in Greece who could use a good news story.
  21. Mitroglou is not the best player because he's do inconsistent. When the guy wants to play he is a force inside due to his size. Other times he falls down like he weighs 120 lbs. I don't know what this coach is doing but whatever it is it hasn't worked so far. There is still plenty of time to put this thing together and qualify.
  22. A few guys are injured including Kone and Holebas but I don't know about the others. Until next time....... Hopefully Greece can get a win against the FAROE ISLANDS. it's no longer a gimme for this team.
