  1. Manchester City suspend Barton for rest of season LONDON, May 1 (Reuters) - Manchester City have suspended midfielder Joey Barton for the rest of the season after a training ground incident, British media said on Tuesday. City confirmed on their Web site (www.mcfc.co.uk) that a player had been suspended but did not reveal his identity. "We can confirm that a player has been suspended until the end of the season, pending an internal investigation into a training incident at the Carrington complex," the Premier League club said in a statement. "The club will be making no further comment at this time." The BBC reported that Barton and French midfielder Ousmane Dabo were involved in a fight at training and that Dabo had gone to hospital with mouth injuries. big mouth
  2. I agree with all of your points City is a disgusting team to watch - very choppy in their service Plus Samaras is their best performing forward even this year- look at the stats he has outscored all of them in much less time on the pitch - Corradi and Vassel Also he leads the team in assists according to ESPN (I know this a weird stat and very American but nonetheless he must have set up a few Comparing Anelka to Giorgios is unfair also - agian Anelka has played many more minutes
  3. george - thanks for the links - keep them coming
  4. Does Nini's participation in this game mean he can only play for Greece in the future?
  5. From the Ethniki matches and the dozen or so times I've seen him on Man city I think that he undoubtably the most talented offensive player we have - he is the best on the ball for sure. He has the imagination we are missing since Demis ,and more so Tsartas, have called it quits. Now I can see why he is frustrating - and I understand and respect where Ethnikitis is coming from - but I see (or maybe hope) that this guy is a future difference maker for our team The other forwadrs, save Charisteas, sometimes Lybe and once-upon-a-time Paps, have been really useless while wearing thte national blue.

  7. Simon upsets Baghdatis in final of Marseille Open Simon upsets Baghdatis in final of Marseille Open February 18, 2007 MARSEILLE, FRANCE (TICKER) -- Gilles Simon could not have picked a better place to win his first ATP title. The unseeded Frenchman gave the home crowd a thrill as he won his first career title with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory over seventh-seeded Marcos Baghdatis in the final of the $664,000 Marseille Open on Sunday.
  8. another final for Marcos Baghdatis beats Nieminen to reach Open 13 final February 17, 2007 MARSEILLE, France (AP) -- Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus remained on course for a second straight title, reaching the Open 13 final with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Jarkko Nieminen of Finland on Saturday. The seventh-seeded Baghdatis, who won the Zagreb Open on Feb. 4, faces Gilles Simon of France in Sunday's final. Simon beat Robin Soderling of Sweden 6-2, 7-6 (2) in the other semifinal match. Baghdatis, the 2006 Australian Open runner-up, said he was relaxed going into the final. "There are things more serious than losing a tennis match," Baghdatis said. "I'm a cool guy and I'm happy in life. If I don't win, it won't be a drama, I will keep smiling." After losing the opening set, Baghdatis regained his composure in the second set and used a series of drop shots to upset Nieminen's rhythm. "At the end of the first set, I felt better, that I was getting my legs back," Baghdatis said. Using his powerful forehand, Baghdatis quickly took a 3-0 lead in the deciding set, winning seven straight points in the process. Baghdatis made it 4-1 with a perfect drop which Nieminen barely returned at the net, only for the Cypriot to whip a passing shot by him. In the following game, Nieminen smashed his racket into the ground in frustration. Baghdatis clinched the match on serve when Nieminen hit a long forehand. Simon broke Soderling three times in the first set and frustrated him during long rallies. In the second set tiebreaker, Simon's ace gave him a 3-0 lead. Soderling then lost his final two serves. 13. Well done - I wonder if any changes were made - the US and Mexico were top 6 or 7 for a while - now, rightfully, they are nowhere to be seen - but now the African's are overrated

  20. :gr: Borussia Dortmund 1-1 VfL Bochum Theofanis Gekas put the Bundesliga strugglers ahead after half an hour, but Ebu Smolarek equalised within five minutes. Zvjezdan Misimovic was at the root of most Bochum moves while Gekas was invariably on the end of them. The Greek striker's acrobatic overhead kick missed the post by inches while he came closer to scoring with a shot across the face of goal after cutting into the penalty area from the left. The goal came when Gekas dispossessed Markus Brzenska to bear down on the Dortmund goalkeeper. Gekas feigned a move one way and let the ball instead roll beyond the last line of the Dortmund defence to then easily slot it into the empty goal.
  21. He also had the flick on to set up the winner
