Antaeus7
Finished 6th, but a decent showing. He will get better in future competitions. You can bet on that.
Blackhawk
There is a report that 3 athletes tested positive for doping during the championships. Apparently one of the athletes is a Greek female runner/walker.

Antaeus7
One guy to really watch for is Christos Frantzeskakis in hammer throw. This kid got serious power. His personal best with the 6 km hammer is 81.32! With the 5 km, his best was 80.15. Edited July 1, 2018 by Molon Lave

Antaeus7
Christos Frantzeskakis has to be one of the worst young Greek athlete in today's track and field. He leaves the competition without a mark and fails to qualify for the finals. This is not the first time he cracks in major junior competitions (Happened in 2017 Under 20 European Championship). He led the world for U 20 hammer throwers with 81.32, and he will not get a medal. Un-f***ing-believeable! Antaeus7
I got up around 4 am in the morning to follow the men's hammer throw qualification at the IAAF Under 20 World Championship on live stream. This Greek hammer thrower from Chania, Crete came into the competition with a world lead 81.32 m for all Under 20 hammer throwers (6 kg). He is the heavy favorite to medal (possibly gold). Just as I watched him throw, he has some serious flaws. He has fouled on each of his 3 throws. This is not the first time he was bowed out from qualification without a mark. The same happen last year in the Under 20 European Championship. He has so much upside in his game with raw power, yet he cracks under pressure in major junior competitions. Honestly, he is the most overrated Greek athlete in all track and field and I don't care if he is 18 years old. Stavroula Kosmidou (age 16) performs way better than him and doesn't hit the nettings so often on her releases. I wasted my morning to watch this crap! What a performance for the ages! 2.23 was the winning height and his new personal best. Roberto Vilches of Mexico also won gold resulting in getting identical stat with Merlos. Blackhawk
I watched the competition on TV this past weekend. This must be the dumbest competition the IAAF has come up with. Competition where an athlete with the best performence does not necessarily win.
Antaeus7
I fully agree. So if two European athlete with the top marks, only one could go to the semifinals and the other finish 5th at best? LOL!
Antaeus7
And here is another problem with IAAF : Why host the 2021 IAAF World Championship in Nairobi, Kenya where you see athletes from Greece to the United States refuse to go due to security reasons? Blackhawk
I also did not like in long distance races where the last athlete after each round was eliminated.
