Omonoia9
A red card on Sinisa Dobrasinovic rescued Portugal from another embarrassment at the hands of Cyprus. Cristiano Ronaldo who was booed by the unusually high amount of Cypriot fans hit from the spot. The islanders hung tough, though, even with 10 men, never giving in, until Marios Nikolaou made an errant pass that Cristiano Ronaldo gladly accepted and had all day to put it past Antonis Giorgallidis. Giorgallidis tried to keep his side in it, but with no defense on hand, Raul Meireles's shot, which was saved by Giorgallidis went right to Cristiano Ronaldo, who found a wide open Hugo Almeida for a 3-0 scoreline. Danny came off the bench and scored a virtually undefended goal.

Euro2004
Portugal ended the match with a convincing win but from what I saw the match was decided on 2 key moments. 1) Dobrasinovic giving away a stupid, needless penalty to give Portugal a penalty and reduce Cyprus to 10 men. 2) Okkas went through one on one when the game was still 0-1, I think it was around the 79th min mark, but he was incorrectly adjudged to have been offside. Had he been allowed to continue and score Cyprus may have sat deep and held on, even with 10 men. Unfortunately a small team like Cyprus cannot cope against the likes of Ronaldo, Nani, Meirelles, Pepe, Moutinho, etc with just 10 men. It was a great achievement to hold on for as long as they did and I hope this is a sign that Nioplias will achieve some great things with Cyprus. The next aim/goal must be to beat Iceland on Tuesday. Cyprus dominated possession at home and should have won, missing a penalty in the process. It will show great character if Cyprus go away and win there against a stubborn and well organised Icelandic team with many promising young players
