manos Posted January 7, 2008 Share Posted January 7, 2008 Unfortunately Olympiakos yielded under the pressure of the refereeing in the match against Xanthi and sought protection. It's been going on for a while now, with referees indicating via their decisions that our administration needs to deal with the usual people. The penalty given to Xanthi was a clear message - you either deal with us or you start dropping points here and there. The possibility of second or even third place was too much for Kokkalis to bear. To be absolutely honest I don't feel as bad about it as I did a few years ago, given that we do very well in Europe and it would be unfair for us not to win the league. What I am not sure about is whether a big part of our European success is due to the fact that we had to play a lot of closely contested matches in the league.
