Santos currently gets 2.6 mil to coach Portugal so unless the EPO are willing to spend huge on him it wont happen. I am surprised that they are going after him unless he is willing to take a huge discount. I think they will likely go for one of the guys I listed. I heard on Greek radio that Donis would take the job for even less than that amount as they said Donis has already done pretty well financially.

An article in Sport24 today is saying Jimenez name is in the forefront for the NT job. The other options are Donis, Dellas, Ouzounidis and Anastasiou. EPO want to hire a coach in the next few weeks and Santos is considered to be a real long shot at this point as is Valverde. If those are only options I would take Donis.

Is his name in the mix? Gatuzzo was a warrior as a player a pit-bull in the midfield and was a key piece to Italy wcup winning squad. As a manager I would say no thanks. To much off a side show.

Personally I am not a big fan of Jimenez. My preferred order out of the names thrown around is Valverde, Donis, Santos.

True we don’t get enough attempts on target. With JVS the “total football”coach or so we thought we were getting especially early on we only managed as many shots on target as Andorra during qualifying. Add to that the silly goals we conceded in qualifying with JVS, we never saw Greece give up those goals with Santos. If Greece were up vs the minnows or Croatia & Russia’s of the world we put the matches away. One thing we know is if EPO give him the job he will run the Ethniki his way.

EPO president was on OPEN TV and stated he would like to have a foreign coach and that he would like Santos back. Of course for Santos he will have to wait until March to see if Portugal qualify or miss out on the World Cup. Anyone hear any other names recently added to EPO wish list?

LOL...Lets see Canada play a top European nation like Greece did when they beat world cup and Euro title holder France, Czech Republic, Spain and Portugal 2x in there own country. They would get mauled from start to finish. Last year they needed to up their ranking to try and go directly into the "hex" so they played a friendly vs Iceland's almost C team and of course they lost. They cant compete with the the big boys of world football like Greece can and has done. So many decades in CONCACAF with nothing to show, just pitiful. Anyways on to the Ethniki..

The EPO have to get it right with this hire, ever since Santos left they have failed with all these coaching hires. Greece have good talent to draw from just don't try and build the team around Bakasetas as JVS tried to do. Start from the back with Vlachodimos, Mavropanos, Tsimikas and hopefully the new coach will bring back Manolas who can still play at a high level and bring that experience to the team.

I wish they would bring in a big name experienced coach but like u said that most likely wont happen. I have a lot of respect for Santos and what he did for the Ethniki. He was with in penalties off taking Greece to the quarter finals of the wcup! He had a great record and the defensive pieces to play his style of football. I have a feeling they will go with a Donis or Dellas but I am seeing on some sites that EPO want a foreigner. Anyways JVS started brightly but his questionable player selections & tactics screwed us. 6pts dropped in games we were leading in the 2nd half to Kosovo & Georgia (who are an up and coming side)would have taken us over Sweden. Just pisses me off seeing Sweden in the playoff draw today and they avoided Italy and Portugal.

I heard they are waiting to see if Portugal fail to qualify and they would then give the job to Santos. In March EPO are working on playing a friendly match with Germany. Maybe they will go with one of the other candidates, will see.

JVS knew he was not going to get a renewal so he tried to save face by leaving. Anyways @J1078 who do you think we will get as coach. Who do you like out of the names that have been mentioned.

JVS is not a bad guy he made to many blunders with the Ethniki and did not learn from them. As for corruption Canadians and the CSA are shady as well. Kick backs and bribes they are the same s%$#!. You mentioned Croatia they are a small country but they have an abundance of talent but corrupt too. As for Canada smoking us lol maybe at shinny. Lets see them play Spain and how many goals they eat.
