  1. That's one thing I really hate Greek football. The owners are far more involved than in any other country in the world. Whether it's Marinaki storming down to the rooms and having a tanty or Savvidis/Alfouza threatning to leave the league every other week. These guys are meant to provide financial stability for the club and employ people who know about football to run the football part of things. But in Greece thats not the case, and it contributes to the poor quality of our league.

Anyways dissapointing result, at least an away goal wasn't conceded.  I still think olympiako will go through, a win or a score draw will do!

  2. What makes it tougher is teams poor performance or lack of appearence in Europe. your ranking goes down and then you end up unseeded (as AEK is) and its tough.
It's what has held PAOK in good stead, a few solid runs in the Europa league over the last 5-6 years and we are seeded when it comes to the qualifiers. Doesn't guarantee you'll make the group stage but its a big help.

I don't think PAO will have many problems with AIK. While its a tricky tie for AEK and Pas are going to need a miracle.

  3. Good result. I actually thought Tzavella for the most part did well, making some key interceptions. Xarisi was very good, if he is injured hopefully its nothing serious and he is fine for the 2nd leg.

Klaus you would swear hasn't played football, no ability to shield or hold up the ball but thats nothing new.
They are beatable but we are gonna need to score at least 2 I think, can't see us keeping a clean sheet. But all to play for in a packed toumba

  4. literally saw the 2 side of glykos in one half. Fumbling that shot for the offside goal, and him flapping at the corner, which he got nowhere near. Then he makes a solid reflex save. He looks nervy, if we get through this with a clean sheet it will be a minor miracle.

Defs settled a lot better after the goal, more space will open up as Ajax chase a goal or 2, we need to take advantage. Rodrigues looking dangerous without having quiet been able to get a hold of them

  5. Defs surprising that Facundo was left off the list, It may mean that he could be on the way out.
Could Xatzi be being left out because he refused to go to Steoua as part of the Varela deal? And the club are using this as a sort of punishment? In saying that Ivic didn't seem to rate him when he took over, so maybe he's looking at a long season. Which is a shame, he showed some solid signs when he joined, I think he should be kept.

Even if Varela does get put in the squad, surely he doesn't play? At least in the first leg seeing he hasn't trained in like 3 weeks or something, due to injury.

  6. Good post Bananas, I agree with everything you wrote

At the same time, I feel some of us are a little touchy here about the quality of our players, I really hope Djalma comes good. But until we see him play how can we know? Shakov and Matos on paper look like they will slot right in and be good players. But guys like Djalma and Bisewar are always hit and miss, they've showed glimpses in the pre-season but you can't tell anything until the real stuff gets underway.

  7. I remember watching the games 6 years ago (wow) In holland we got played off the park but if it wasn't for typical Xalkias mistake on a ball that was in the air we maybe would have got away with a clean sheet.
Our only really chance was smashed in by Ivic, i think I woke my whole street up when that went in.

A 1-1 would be great, if we manage to keep a clean sheet that would be amazing. But if we can somehow pinch a goal, we give ourselves a real chance. don't know why, I have a good feeling about this tie.

Little to no chance of tv coverage in australia i assume? We'll probably have to stream it

  8. Very true about the business side of the Mak sale.

Players like Mak who come at a good age to a club like PAOK only ever want to use it as a stepping stone. Play regular first team football and play in Europe. He did what he set out to do, and we got 2 years out of a good player and now a nice little pay day. Lets see the cash invested back in the squad.

  9. Does not look bad on paper. From all reports Shakov has looked good, and looking at his Cv he seems solid. The question for me remains can Tzavella be a solid Center back at a higher level. And how good is Crespo? I guess we won't start getting answers till the first leg

  10. what a cruel game football is, France and Giginac where an inch away from winning it in the last minute. Just shows how big a role luck plays in these tourneys especially when you want to sit back. If lady luck smiles on you, you can do it. Congrats to Portugal and Santos

  11. If that signing does go through, it would mean we have a s%$#! load of players in centre mid. Cimirot, Xarisi, Tzioli, Kace, Shakov and potentially Canas. That's 6 players for 2 positions. I'm not counting dekari, because if you count players who can play there as well we need to add Pelka, Mysta and potentially Pereyra. So that would make 9 players for 3 positions. Depth is good but surely that is too many for 3 spots?
