  1. The match versus Romania will be tougher than the Finland game. We should use the strategy vs Romania on Friday too. So the guys will know the system better and will have more experience with it. It has become clear in the last months the system is very important in our case, much more important than which wingback will start, the more experienced and older one or a younger but equally average one?

  2. .....................Karnezis.........................

    Sokratis...Manolas...KPaps........Holebas

    ...............Samaris......Taxi..................

    Fetfa.........Fortounis........Karelis......

    ..................Mitro................................

I can not see Vyntra.no Fn way..Sokratis has handled RB in the Bundesliga I would even try Kitsiou at RB before Vyntra...they need to develop chemistry in the middle of the park but more important this team needs a W in the most epic way.

Two defensive midfielders are too few in our current form. We should play Tziolis too. And we should concentrate more on defending.

I dont think Tsanas would choose Kitsiou over Vyntra. When he was the coach versus Serbia, Vyntra and Avraam were in the starting eleven and the Kitsiou type players (Tasoulis, Bakakis) sat on the bench. This is important because of the chemistry too, Vyntra and Tziolis know the others fairly well. Id say Tsanas wont tinker with the line-up. Probably we will start like this: Karnezis - Vyntra, Manolas, Papastathopoulos, Holebas - Tziolis/Tachtsidis, K. Papadopoulos, Samaris - Fetfatzidis, Mitroglou, Karelis.

  3. I think we can say with some confidence that the following players will not play for the Ethniki again:

    Katsouranis

    Salpi

    Karabelas

    Spyropoulos

    Tzavellas

Samaras is probably done as well but he may find a club one of these next few years.

Karabelas could be called up, hes playing for Levante and is only 30. Tzavellas is only 27.

  4. Mendel, news flash for you...

Samaras has no club, Christodoulopoulos can not help this team and Salpigidis's ethniki days are well and truly over. These are not loses, we have better player now days

News for you: I wrote that Samaras is a free agent, Christodoulopoulos could help us now because we have only two somewhat experienced attackers (Fetfatzidis, Mitroglou), none of them is a left winger. Salpingidis was also a key member of the team and was way more experienced than Aravidis, Platellas or Fountas. Also he could help us more than any of the aforementioned players.

  5. It's worth mentioning that Sanmartean will probably start for Romania and he too plays in Saudi Arabia. Also Marica has not been called up to the Romania squad; he's fallen out of favor for his club in Turkey. Our qualifying group is very weak. Its almost unthinkable that we missed out on Euro 2016.

Karnezis, Holebas, Sokratis, Kyriakos and Manolas are all fit. Samaris, Mitroglou, and Fortounis appear to be in good health and good form. Karelis and Fetfatzidis have the quality to impose themselves against Finland and Romania. There's no excuse if we don't win these next two games.

The Romania game wont be easy at all. We too have many injured players (Torosidis, Maniatis, Ninis) or players who dont have a club (Samaras, Christodoulopoulos, Salpingidis), and Tsanas is an average coach. I hope we will win but in these circumstances it will be very difficult.

  6. Giannoulis, Platellas, Tziolis and Vyntra have no place on this squad....

Bouchalakis, Pelkas, Stafyllidis should have got the nod..

    Stafylidis is injured.

I would accept Giannoulis or Vyntra as a left back with Holebas playing on the left side of the midfield. Then we would have a sort of defensive minded player on the left who can help the attacks. A midfield with him, K. Papadopoulos and Tziolis would give us some safeness.

  7. We were successful with old and out of form and/or unfit players and then achieved the worst results in the last 20 years with promising and talented youngsters? Its possible that the old and "untalented" guys were even so more useful than these young scumbags and thats why they were capped (Katsouranis, Tziolis, Gekas, Spyropoulos, Vyntra and other much bashed players). They were selected because they were best choices, not because theyre world class as Messi, Ronaldo or Pirlo.

  8. Several Greek sites state today that Tsanas wanted to see yesterday (at Oly-Panionios) mainly Siovas, Bouchalakis and Fortounis. See for example: http://www.gazzetta.gr/football/article/790937/tsekare-siova-fortoyni-kai-mpoyhalaki-o-tsanas

Fortounis is said to have been very good, Bouchalakis was OK too, and both of them scored against Panionios.

An afterthought. How many defenders does he want to call up? There were some eight of them among the foreign-based players, and now there is Siovas too. I thought he wants to cap attackers from the Super League (Mitroglou was the only striker on the list).

  9. We can't just got out there and get any big name coach that doesn't have a job right now. We need to be smart we need to do some research and we have to find a coach that is best suited for our team and our style of play. We can't just go out and get for example a run and gun style of coach because he's the best name out there. We need to make a decision on a coach and stick with him. We can't keep switching coaches every 5 games or so. We need a coach that will restore our defensive system plus add a bit of creativity on offense, we need a coach that will preach fitness and dedication, we need a coach that is a players coach, a coach that will be patient with young players and gives them a chance to develop and not afraid to put them in the line up, we need a coach that will give us an identity again and everyone will know there roles and not be asked to do something they are not capable of. Yes it will be a long road for our team as we are in a transition but we do have some good pieces that we can build on. We still have defenders that are above average and very capable of playing solid defense, we lack in our midfield position right now, we do have some pieces that show potential up front we just hope with a new coach that one of these guys can step up and take the role. We need someone that is willing to stick with a line up if he really believes in it because all of this juggling of players all the team will not allow the team to build a system and get comfortable with each other. Just my thoughts.

I thought so too. Very good post.

  10. Soiledis was awesome today but he needs like 4 or 5 more performances like this before he's included, Platanias is a very bad team. I'm not gonna comment on Platellas lol.

Good comment, we shouldnt cap guys after ONE good performance versus a shitty team. And people bashing Katsouranis, Maniatis, Tziolis again. They did much more for the NT so far than playing just one good match.

"Radical shake up" with Aravidis, Platellas, Soiledis, Kolovos, Mantalos, Dinas and the likes? It would be perhaps a greater disaster than that against Faroe Islands.

  11. Back to topic: We should find an experienced head coach instead of Tsanas as soon as possible. If Tsanas would be a Mourinho or a Fernando Santos, he would have been considered as a head coach after the Ranieri debacle. Nor was his overall strategy versus Serbia very convincing. Id say we could beat Finland at home, but we will have a tough time vs Romania away.

  12. Kone, K. Papadopoulos, even Fortounis. Tziolis could have been also called up (instead of Mantalos, for example). They would have offered stability, the chemistry between the players could have worked. With the former system we could have easily secured a draw (at least).

  13. Samaras seems like a great guy on a personal level with filotimo.

As a player, will always be remembered as the guy who had bags of potential and natural talent but couldn't put it to good use consistently. A guy who didn't really care to aim high.

He's the kind of guy I would want to grab a pint with, but not someone I would build a team around. At the most on a player level he's a decent enough sidekick. Could he have achieved greatness had he been surrounded by top class players? Maybe. We'll never know because after the Man City experience, he never got his chance, nor did he push for it. Had bags of natural talent, that's for sure.

I think GC22 has misplaced his understandable sympathy for Samaras as a person into defending him at all costs and against all odds as a footballer.

Played for Celtic, scored a bunch of goals in the Champions League, was x-times Scottish champion, participated with the NT at two Euros and two WCs, scored at both tournaments, cca 80 caps under his belt. Cf. "he didnt push for his chance", "he is unprofessional". WTF?
