The draw for the UEFA Women's Champions League was today. PAOK Women's team was drawn in Group B in the Round 1 of the competition. PAOK will face Swansey Ladies (Wales) in one semifinal and if they win they will face the winner of the other semifinal game between Ferencvaros (Hungary) and Glasgow Rangers (Scotland). Group B games will take place in Thessaloniki on August 18 and 21.

During today's Superleague 1 meeting, the Olympiakos owner Vaggelis Marinakis was voted in as the new Superleague 1 president. The vote was 9 in favor (Olympiakos, Aris, Atromitos, Ionikos, Levadeiakos, PAS Giannina, Tripoli, Panaitolikos, OFI), 5 abstentions (PAOK, PAO, AEK, Lamia, EPO), 1 no show (Volos). Of interest is the fact that all that 8 of the 9 teams voting for Marinakis received a sponsorship from Marinakis based company Shopflix about two months ago. Initially there was only one candidate prior to today. That was Papaioannou from Lamia, but today all of a sudden he withdrew his candidacy and Marinakis right away entered his. Lamia also received a sponsorship from Shopflix, so it was not that hard for them to step down.

4+1 for Kotarski. Signing should be announced any minute. Kargas cost the team 250K. Donis is an interesting case. Under normal circumstances no Donis of any kind should be linked to PAOK again. However, he is represented by Rogon (Koutsiolakos). The same firm represents Tsolak, Murg and Pelkas. This whole thing smells of a deal that involves all those players. Donis is probably thrown in as part of the overall deal.

I'd say let's close the Jaba chapter and tell him not to even bother returning to Thessaloniki at all.

Schwab signing is good news, as long as he is not paired with Kurtic and does not play 60 game per season. Kargas is closed and was told to show up for practice on Friday. Dantas loan is also done deal and is travelling to Thessaloniki tomorrow. I have a feeling these two will be officially announced tomorrow or Friday. Also, Kotarski is supposedly to sign with PAOK on Friday. We are also apparently close to signing Khaled Narey.

It was mentioned today during the presentation that the minimum capacity will be 35,000. The final capacity will be determined during the design stage. The two companies designing the project are the Greek based Salfo. Salfo will be responsible for the master plan, which includes the stadium surrounding areas and US based Popoulos, which will be responsible for the stadium only.

The only reason I can see is to provide experience support to our two youngsters (Kotarski and Talichmanidis).

ERT has the TV rights to the Mediterranean Games. Not sure how we compare to Italy or Portugal, but our U21 team could not compete with Portugal in our recent qualifying games. Greek football team has never been too successful in the Mediterranean Games which started in 1951. We only won the competition once in 1991 and the reason was probably because the games were held in Athens. The final was Greece - Turkey 3:1. In 1997 we finished 3rd by beating Spain 1:0. In 1987 Turkey beat us 1:0 in the bronze medal game. In 1979 we lost the bronze medal to Algeria (1:2). All other times we either failed to qualify from the group stage, or did not take part (1955, 1959, 1963, 1967).

The games are held in Oran, Algeria between June 25 - July 5, 2022. Eight teams are taking part in the football tournament. The teams are splint into two groups. Top two teams from each group qualify to the semifinal. Let's not forget that in 2004 they completely rebuilt gates 1,2 and 3 and they did not find anything during excavations. But than again the government was funding the constructions as part of the 2004 Olympics, so things could have been swept under the carpet.
