Socratis and Manolas play for major clubs and are professionals. For them to lose it and say what they have been saying tells you things are bad. If the coach has a negative effect it will affect the player's morale and mentality. EPO is the problem there is a lot of backdoor deals with player selections and there unwillingness to invest in youth development of players etc. That's why you see Croatia produce top players and we do not, it starts at the top.

With that being said we are more talented squad than Armenia lets not get delusional here... the score reflected the lack of organization on this team and toxic culture. For things to change it has to start at an EPO level down and when they don't qualify for tournaments and lose out on money maybe they will care. I still remember when Amanatidis quit the team way back for the same reasons... it's not because the players are pre maddonas there is deep corruption here nobody wants to talk about and no coach will fix that...

So if we want to think of it logically and eliminate variables then we are all in agreement we are good enough to beat Estonia, Finland etc. Even though our players are limited we should be getting the job done against teams like Armenia.

The coach isn’t a world beater. He is a 4.5-5/10 manager for me. He should be still good enough to coach these players and gets results. So these things didn’t happen. So the problem doesn’t start with the players and coach. If we are to believe the culture in the club is toxic then the EPO are the ones that should be held accountable. There lack of care have cost us 5 years of embarrassment for our standards.

If anything needs to be replaced it’s the EPO first then everyone else. Why has it been a recurring theme of losing to teams lower than us?

Something is not right and it could get worse if things are not changed. There’s no excuse losing to Faroe islands twice and losing to Estonia and Armenia. The Italy game could have been handled better but it’s more excusable because they have more quality than us. Still we could have given them a run for their money just like we did with Belgium and Croatia in the past.

Everything starts at the top. And then slowly goes down to team. We need more professionalism and better facilities. If we start acting the part as a whole then we will start playing the part. Corruption is killing the team. Instead of choosing players on skill, merit and form. Football is no longer looked at as a sporting competition where you get the best players to win. It has become a business and money is the root to all evil.

My wife is Portuguese. My father in law explained to me what happened to portugal.

They never qualified. In World Cup 66 they finally made it and finished 3rd. Then they never qualified till Euro 84 and world cup 86. In soccer mad country they knew they had to change. So they fired everyone in the federation, invested heavily in training facilities state of the art. Hired the best youth coaches.  Got a youth blueprint made up to follow. Also the teams improved their facilities because they new the only way to survive was to produce great young players and sell them. Win situation for them and also the national team.

What it produced was youth under 20 World Cup winners in 89 and 91. Plus champions in all age groups. Since qualifying for Euro 96 they have only missed out on the world cup98. That's 11 tournaments qualified for. Well 10 because they were hosts in 04.

They have gone to 3 finals winning 2, plus they were semifinalists 5 times in tournaments.  This from a country of 11 million people and financial problems like Greece.

And they look like qualifying for 2020.

This is what Greece need to do. But won't happen. And it's not just portugal. Many countries have done it and its paying off. But there's to much corruption in Greece.

Greece never had money to invest in all those things you stated. We were never a superpower in football. Greece won a Euro in 2004 with a very good coach with average to good players. They were the underdogs.  What I’m saying is you can still achieve success. Now our players must be really bad, so bad that we dont realise it. I just don’t want to believe it because of the teams our players play for. Roma, Benfica. Arsenal, Leverkusen and so on. I think the tactics and player selections are all wrong. Why are we playing 2DMs and no real wingers. We lack real midfielders and you need speed as speed has become a real factor in winning games. To go even deeper our players don’t play well with each other and are limited in the first place.

I can't watch these starting line ups and ridiculous subs anymore. He might not have full say in call ups, but he's got say in who he starts and where. He's not a good coach. Epo better get their act together and find some money

I agree. The Greek league itself is in shambles. Where did all the money go from 2004-2014? What did they use it on? If we can get the call ups right then we would have any issues with who starts. But I feel we won’t ever get the right call ups.

Lol ? welcome to the dark ages again. I know I have been there with this team.

There is no way no we are qualifying. We are 5 pts behind Finland with a 6 goal average. Armenia is team we are supposed to get 6 pts from?? Wtf.

    The stadium was empty ???

our next game is away to Finland. They will put us to the sword. We are never going to catch 2nd place.

We had a perfect opportunity in the nations cup to secure a playoff spot, from the 3rd division of Europe Former Euro champs and we couldn't do that. Lmfao??

some of you think we will qualify? Give me the drugs your on. I want to be in make believe land too. Lol ?

the writing was on the wall when we didn't qualify for Germany as European champs. Then in 2016 even teams from the 3rd place qualified. We couldn't.

Its over. We will not qualify again unless drastic house cleaning in the federation and money put in to youth development.

It's over. Don't even try to believe we will qualify. Lol losing to Armenia. Who the F*** loses to Armenia ???

Putting money in youth developments can happen, but will it. Our players are not good enough on the ball. At least play players that have real ability and can control the ball well and play good football with each other.

Is this clown fired yet? Anyone seen an update yet?

Settle down. If he gets fired what then? We will probably get an even worse coach. The EPO don’t care. They haven’t got money to spend. If they did we would’ve qualified in major tournaments the last 4 years. We will not see change. I’ve said this since I’ve  been a fan the call ups are what kill this team.

  6. The coach played a system that didn’t benefit our players. Fortounis played in the wrong position. Zeca played at RB where you needed his hustle in the centre. Manolas and Sokratis didn’t play well and that’s what happens when your midfield is non existent defensively then the defence would be under pressure (in this case a lot) and eventually make mistakes, which happened. There was no excuse on the 2nd goal where Manolas let the Insigne score like that. By his standards he should have done better. The coach is to blame for starting the game the way he did.

Our players are not good enough to be playing different positions. They haven’t even mastered their own position let alone play anywhere else.

Italy have quality players. Bosnia have a few quality players. Who do we have? Sokratis is on the decline. Fortounis and Samaris are too slow and make silly mistakes. Manolas is close to quality but still needs areas to improve on. Our players are one dimensional.

Masouras worked hard and tracked back a lot and helped out Zeca.

This one really hurts and not the fact that we lost it's how we lost. Again I'm left scratching my head trying to figure what style of play we were trying to play. If we sit back and really think about it if Pjanic doesn't take a red card we are 1 win and 2 losses to start this campaign and the fact that we have conceded 7 goals in our last 3 games in the first half is mind blowing it doesn't even give us a chance. Angelo said from the beginning when he was hired "I don't care about positions a good soccer player can play anywhere" He is staying true to his word and it is now biting us in the ass. Zeca is much more useful in the midfield, Toro should have been called up, Barkas made some big saves but in NO way he should have started this game over the other 2 guys. Once again as bad as the players looked they looked confused and lost as they are not use to playing this system.. I said a couple weeks back that I hope this coach plays guys in there natural position and doesn't start an experimental formation that the players are not accustomed to playing and that's exactly what he did. You can see clearly this crop of players are not meant to just sit back and defend it DOES'NT WORK for them they don't have the mentality to just sit back. You are better off playing 4-2-3-1. Also the fact that we were down 3-0 and the subs that were made were just as concerning to me and made absolutely no sense at all. Why even bother calling Kolouris up anymore the only guy on this roster with any scoring pedigree but yet is never used is mind boggling. I think this defeat may have done a lot of damage to the players psyche and made them lose any positive feeling they had for this team after the Bosnia come back. This next game on Tuesday may turn out to be the end of our qualifiers....

We don’t have any quality players. If we did then our players can play anywhere. It’s mind boggling that we leave out players who have glimpses of quality eg. Fetfatzidis, Lamprou - and call up players who are D+ level at best eg. Valerianos, Bakasetas, Mavrias.

It will be the end of Anastasiadis having a job with Greece if we lose our next match. I’m more than happy for him to be fired and bring in a foreign coach who knows what to do. He played a system that didn’t suit our players. Fortounis dosent press, Pelkas would have been great in that role. Kourbelis and Samaris as deep lying number 6s/CBs. They have limited to no skill on the ball. That’s why our midfield is non existent and can’t get things going.

Fortounis cant take on players. He relys in playing in tight spaces and moving side wards. Instead of beating a player and putting the ball on a platter for the striker. Fetfatzidis is capable of doing this. Gianniotas can play the wingers role almost perfectly.

This is in fact very very true!! I have never seen it so bad, the 94 team that travelled to the USA would put 3-4 past this mob.

I posted before some months ago, we need to start looking at skilled players, you saw today and I saw it in other games, Turkish game for example, opposition is pressing is and we have to play it back to the goalkeeper as the current mob cant take a player on or have any vision to pass it out, Samaris and Kourbelis just can't do it, Zeca does and so does Bouchalakis but we also need skill across the field, Fetfa can do it for example, the guys in Holland like Lamprou also, speed and skill, some of the  better younger PAO guys,  Christodoulopoulos would have been some help today, Stafylidis, no right wing... horrible stuff, yes Torosidis would have been good today, as would Koutris who is much better than gameless Stafylidis.

What good is playing all these defensive players when we keep eating so many goals! Best defense is a good offense, enough with these crap tactics NOT TO LOSE - not working

Post of the year for me!

No player owns the jersey, everyone can lose their positions in my view. Conceding 3 goals in suc a short space of time is rediculous.

Made Italy look like Germany or Netherlands.

They must change things up with energy and speed in key areas, in the mids. I would go 4 2 3 1 and with this lineup asap:

                                 Vlahodimos

    Sok           Manolas             Siovas            Koutris

                          Siopis             Zeca

         Lamprou            Pelkas             (Donis) Masouras

                          Darmishaj/Koulouris

Sok doesn't own a CB position, even though he plays epl Arsenal. As for that, they recently lost 4-1 to Chelsea for the record.

Fortounis again too slow to threaten, time and time again...upmarket Bakasetas.

I like that line up a lot! Full of energy and better CMs. Alphonse touched on point and said that we need midfielders who can brake on players in the middle and have the vision to play it out. This is so important as other countries are have this. Samaris and Fortounis are slow and don’t work hard enough. Hopefully with a new coach soon he will understand what needs to be done.

I think the criticism of Fortounis is very harsh tbh. Whilst he is no Ronaldo and can do some things better, he was set  up to fail today by Anastasiadis. You can not expect Fortounis to do it all on his own!!! He has no support, no one up ahead and only Masouras from time to time on his wing, this is against a team like Italy.. . He took them on and did what he could with no one helping him, I will cut the guy some slack, Ange is to blame for this with Kosta

That’s true but I don’t like the way he conducts himself. Sometimes it looks like he dosent want to be there. He preserves his energy when his energy should be up to standards and it’s not. Fortounis throws his arms in the air and gives up. I don’t like that.

  11. Logically the coach is to blame. Putting out a formation that the player are not used to and players out of position won’t help us. What’s wrong with playing 4-2-3-1.

    Vlachodimos

    Kotsiras Manolas Sokratis Koutris

    Kourbelis Zeca

    Masouras Fortounis Kolovos

    Koulouris

You can’t go wrong with that. What we should of seen is:

    Vlachodimos

    Torosidis Manolas Sokratis Koutris

    Kourbelis Zeca

    Lamprou Fortounis Masouras

    Koulouris

    I'm f-ing gutted.

It looked like every single player on the Ethniki was being forced to play and their minds were on Mykonos. Everyone, except Zeca. At least he played with hustle.

I'm not ignorant enough to have thought we would win but damn man, show some f-ing pride for your flag. A hard fought tie or even a hard fought 1-0 or 2-1 loss would at least show that the players care. I'm sick of this sh$t.

Yeah they didn’t look up for it.

Karagounis was a legendary footballer with great skill and he fought for everything on the pitch every time I saw him play.

Armenia won't be a push over but if we have a good start we should get a victory. Then it's on to Finland in September for a key away fixture. Second place is between us and the Finns. The Bosnians are on the way down..

If our players play in their positions and play a system that everyone is used to, with added passion and determination then yes. We have a chance. Also we need players with high energy and work rates also fast players.

Tachtsidis? What are you talking about?

One of the main reasons Leece got promoted?

Because Samaris is excellent and so is Zeca. We have no creativity from our midfield. At least Siopis can run and close down and has the energy. What does Samaris have. Nothing.

Karagounis and co played with passion. You can’t also expect Valerianos to do well at CB when he hasn’t even mastered playing at LB. Our quality is not up to standards and it showed today.

I agree with you about Kyriakopoulos.

  15. Kolovos and Masouras are not bad. Fortounis delays our attack. Samaris destroys our build and can’t take control. No real substance. Kolovos can keep possession well and Masouras makes good runs and likes to work. Our midfield is non existent and our RB is weak. So is our LB.

This team is always sabotaged by selections and tactics. Samaris and Fortounis don’t deserve to start let alone get a full 90. Pelkas and Siopis should have started instead. Fast players that like to hustle. Wrong mindset and attitude of the players as well. The coach is too blame for sure.
