    Last I heard Scibbe had urgent talks with Otto and Kats. 

    Here's the transcript ...

    Scibbe: First of all I would like to say thank you for your time. As you know this is an important match for Greece. I have convened this meeting to get advice from both of you esteemed gentlemen on who I should go with in the LB and midfield. Let me remind that Greece will missing Tzavellas, K Pap, Samaris and Tachtsides for this match

    Kats: Alexandros Tziolis, phone hangs up

    Scibbe: I like Stafylidis, Retsos and Lykogianis. One of them as the LB and the others in DM position, with one on left and the other on the right in a 4 2 3 1 formation. You know, I want to go with youth and energy for this match. All have done really well. Kats you still there? Hello

    Otto: Alexandros Tziolis, pause

    In the background, Otto can be heard munching on pretzels 

    Scibbe: Otto, do you really think Tziolis can hold the line, play the link man in the middle and build attacks from the back, be well positioned in key set pieces when defending. You know, I need mobility in this position.

    Otto: You didn't you hear me? Alexandros Tziolis! continues to eat pretzels

    Scibbe: Otto, I respect what you achieved with Greece in winning Euro and all that, but did you know that Hearts lost there last 4 matches of the season. Not exactly the sort of form which gives me confidence.

    Otto: phone hangs up

    Scibbe: slight pause, then talks to self. "Well he is due for a good match. It's been nearly 3 years since he last played a good match in which Greece won. Law of averages, says he going to break that sooner or later. I have a gut feeling. Hangs up.

    Scibbe's phone rings

    Kara: Hello Mr Scibbe.

    Scibbe: Hi Giorgios. How are you?

    Kara: You know Mr Scibbe, with Tzavellas out for this match, I think you should play Maniatis in DM. He can stare down opposition, scare them. Also, knows how to win free kicks and can score goals from really long distance

    Scibbe: Thanks Giorgios, but did you know that Atromitos let Maniatis go after 11 matches.

    Kara: phone hangs up

    Next games with Bosnia and Sweden are big matches. If we beat Bosnia then we probably move into top 20s and we start to get close to Iceland (21), Slovakia (23), Ireland (26) and NI (26) <in the rankings> who are all vying for 2nd spot in their respective Groups. 

    If we finish 2nd in our Group we want to finish in Pot 1 and avoid likes of Spain : Italy and Switzerland : Portugal.

    I spelt their 'there'

    Their B team is better than our A team. Nainggolan just got a call up and I thought he's one of their best. Go figure. 

    In response to park the bus or not to park. No fan likes to see their team just park the bus. I no I don't. I really hope we come out in the first 15' and hit 2 past them. The point and needs to be emphasised is to limit the opposition with goal scoring opportunities and hope they have a slightly off day.

    My 2c.

    The only small chance we may have will be to keep it at 0-0 for as long as possible. Maybe slow the play and disrupt their rhythm. If we try to compete at their level we will lose. I can't imagine Scibbe not starting with 5 at the back and 2-3 DMs. Only player in front of the ball will be Mitroglou. Keep it at 0-0 for as long as possible and hope we get a set play and convert. If we try to keep pace with them, with the squad we have, they will run all over us. I can see us losing big. They can have all the possession but we can slow it down, keep our shape and hope it frustrates them and forces them into an error or a loss of concentration.

    We went from a team that could scrape wins against minnows, 1-0 vs Malta, 1-0 vs Lithuania to a team that loses to FI, Finland, NI and Belarus at home. To get back into top 25, we need to build a new Hellas, one that not only can consistently beat minnows but that can compete and beat Europe's best. Home should be a fortress. We have good players imo, Karnezis, Soc, Manolas, K Pap, Samaris, Toro, Stafylidis, Mantalos, Fortounis and Mitroglou but lack depth and a true leader in the middle of the park. Fortounis and Mantalos need to get out of Greece and find clubs in Europes top leagues, imo. Coach should bring good young talent into the squad to build depth and develop the squad.

    2017 will be an important year for Greece. Belgium match and the away match to Bosnia will confirm which direction we are heading with Scibbe.
