the one which was posted above.
Yea I just saw it but nothing concrete.

Still waiting on link with Donis status.

Avraam Papadopoulos' sudden plummet from the football world at age 29 is something I cannot wrap my head around.

and yes donis is out, as it was confirmed this morning..
personally with the current available players 3-5-1-1 is a non brainer for me..we utilize our strongest weapon by having 3 cbs altogether, as well as zeca+samaris+kourmpelis to hold the midfield..getting rid of tziolis, tzavellas, gianniotas and mpakasetas..
Confirmed from whom?
-
I don't really care about Mantalos. He was mostly invisible for Greece in an attacking midfield role. We can offer better. Donis, however, is a disheartening loss.
-
That's a huge relief.

I would like to say we will playing a counter attacking style with a focus on set pieces. I don't think we need to just park the bus. Croatia is good but they don't compare to Belgium who in my opinion are a superior side.
Belgium has a slightly better XI, but much deeper as a team.

I just read on Stuttgarts page the Donis will be out until approximately November 30th. I don't know if there has been an update but it looks like he won't be available.. Sucks he could have been a weapon for us..
There is word that he is resuming training and may be match fit in time for the playoffs. I don't see Skibbe playing him anyway during the first leg in Zagreb; Maybe in Athens.
-
He is likely asking because Croatia already announced their preliminary roster. But yes, probably by the end of next week.

Need to keep this first away game as close as possible to have a chance
Any loss of 2 goals or more (2-0, 3-1) we can forget about it.
Im very worried about their midfield that they will have total control .
I am worried that we will give them too much respect.

So just because Sokratis is world class he is beyond criticism.
We can critisise Samaris and say that we should use others in the Midfield, although despite some people saying we do, we definately do not. But we gotta forget the fact that Sokratis did indeed cost us 3 points in the end.
No. Just No.
We have a decent squad and I agree that Sokratis is a top 10 CB for me alongside Manolas but he has a share in the why our NT didnt take a couple of extra results (unneeded foul vs Bosnia that gave them the 0-1 in Greece, Lukaku goal in Belgium, Lukaku Goal in Greece). We could be talking for a literally first spot here if those goals never happened.
That's not what I am saying, perhaps I wasn't clear. I thought what was said is if Sokratis is really world class then why did he get beat by Lukaku twice, etc.

Well people here keep saying that Sokratis is a world class defender, so it would stand to reason that criticizing him is appropriate. You can't hold him to one standard when he does well and then to another if he does not.
Hold on here guys. This is where I draw the line. This comparison is unfair. Both Sokratis and Lukaku are world class. Lukaku plays in the Premier league and Champions League constantly up against the best CBs alive. He still scores. You cannot stop a world class striker from scoring 100% of the time. Having top class CBs doesn't mean you cannot get scored on. If that was the case Real Madrid, Chelsea, PSG, Barcelona, Bayern, etc would never allow a goal. But they do, and often vs lesser strikers than Lukaku. A world class striker will get the better of world class defenders from time to time, just as world class defenders will get the better of top class strikers. On top of all that, Sokratis is an elite defender surrounded by not-so-elite players and was dealing with constant pressure by Belgium's attack all game long. What more do you want of him? Unjust and unfounded comparison here.

The arguments vs Samaris are fair, but I will keep going back to what is our alternative? Tziolis from Al-Fayha? Maniatis who plays on a sub-par Turkish club? Tachtsidis who sometimes plays with Olympiacos? Siopis from Panionios or Kourbelis from PAO who have no NT caps? Zeca who plays in Denmark?
I am not saying Samaris should start ahead of all of the above, certainly atm not ahead of Zeca, but since we will play 2 or 3 DMs, how could you look past someone who has played 74 games with Benfica and is 28 yrs old.
-
Our options are scarce though. It's very hard to swallow with our only DM with some pedigree can't make the starting XI and guys playing in Saudi Arabia, Denmark and Greece should all be ahead of him.
-
He has a few weeks to regain form. We are very thin in the forward position and with Donis out there is a massive dropoff after Mitroglou. Karelis will be a welcome addition.

Read what this piece bitter piece of s%$#! Bosnia Coach wrote about the Greek team and how he will do everything he can for Croatia to beat the Greeks. Read below..
He will do everything? What will he do? Give them the secret to victory after Bosnia was lucky to leave with a point in their last outing with Greece? Please.

not playing for benfica is the criteria behind your selection?
bravo sou
WTF some people
It is not the only criteria but it is a significant one. There is a reason why he was identified, signed and kept by a top class club like Benfica and has more market value than all our mids besides fortounis. He gets to train and play alongside some of the better players in the world within a world class club culture. That holds a lot of value. Unless he really doesn't gel with his teammates and is a liability, he has to start for the NT, especially when we are fielding 2 or 3 DMs.

I wouldn't be surprised either. However, Skibbe might recognize that without a linkup between the DMs and the attackers, our performance in all phases of the game will suffer. To his credit, he used an AM away vs Bosnia...
Donis would have been a great piece.
-
I read this and he alludes to our world rankings; which is pretty much the only thing anyone can actually use in their argument. Take away our transition period losses to some minnows, which will never happen again, and we would easily be top 25 or 30, even if we haden't qualified for Euro.
This current campaign, we lost less games and scored more goals than them with Belgium in our group, while their biggest rival was very beatable Iceland.

like a stopper or a sweeper?
As a deep DM/3rd CB would be ideal. Maybe with a marking assignment.

I would love to see Kpap on DM but I feel as though Skibbe may not trust his discipline in such a crucial game, especially playing out of position.

samaris instead of mantalos? they don't play in the same position bro. neither stafylidis is a midfielder.
zeca and samaris will start in the midfield with mantalos and stafylidis playing on the wings, fortounis as a playmaker and mitroglou upfront. backline the same as usual.
I wouldn`t be surprised if there if they play 3 DMs Tziolis, Zeca, Samaris and the just Mantalos and Fortounis in more attacking roles.

Given that Croatia's strength is midfield, I would play Zeka as RM & Stafilidis as LM. Furthermore, this is the game to possible consider Siopis and/or Kourbelis; A midfield of
-------- Siopis
Zeka -- Kourbelis -- Stafilidis
can suffocate Croatia; plus Kourbelis is a better Tsiolis (strong, tall but better one-one defender and better passer).
Of course this assume that we play for 0-0.
Kourbelis is 5'11.5, not short by any means but Tziolis is clean 6'4 so there is a difference height.
-
Out six weeks. Our luck as usual. God forbid Mantalos, Tzioli, Bakaseta, or any other replaceable player ever get a scratch. Donis is irreplaceable.

Any injury report on the Croatian front? Do they have an active forum like this one that we can visit?
