No diserespect to the OP but, come on man, Greece is better than Australia. We have guys playing all over Europe, most of which are stars on tgeir teams. Karnezis has kept a young Scufet on the bench, Mitroglou has been reeking havock in Portugal and our defensive duo have been solid in difficult leagues. One of them actually went up against Cristiano Ronaldo yesterday and actually faired pretty well if you ask me. Australia's most famous player is Cahill, nobody else knows about the others except Aussies..
Not only have our defenders been solid, Sokratis is one of the top defenders in a strong bundesliga and Manolas is flat-out the best CB in Italy.

It`s perfectly fine to compare two national teams as often the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, but measuring head-to-head individuals playing in some Asian leagues against footballers starring for top tier clubs like Bayer, Dortmund, Roma and Benfica, and claiming that the former are all equal or greater than the latter is as bias and misguided as they come.

The best Center back in Serie A, and one of the best Center backs in Bundesliga, are not better than two center backs that play in some Asian League... Did I read that right?
I repeat, mods should lock this thread. It is illogical, serves nothing and is downright offensive.

Lets see; Hellas Socceroos
Karnezis Ryan
winner: Ryan
Torotsidis, Holebas Risdon, Smith/Gersbach
winner youth: Risdon, Smith/Gersbach-lacks exp.
Stathis, Manolas Spira/Wright, Sainsbury
winner: draw.
Tziolis/ Samaris Jedinak/Milligan
winner: Jedinak/Milligan
Tachtsidis, Fortounis Luongo, Rogic/Mooy
winner: draw or Luongo, Rogic/Mooy
Pelkas, Kone Leckie, Kruse
winner: Leckie, Kruse
MItroglou/Vellios/Karelis Cahill, Giannou/Juric/McLaren
winner: draw.
Interesting to see the results in a few months. Team chemistry playing a huge role too.
Wait, what? Every single player on the Greek NT is individually better than their Australian counterparts, but what really got to me is you calling the CB head-to-head a draw. That`s absolutely ludicrous. Greece CBs (Sokratis, Manolas, KPapadopoulos, etc.) would draw and maybe beat CBs from the likes of Spain, France, Brazil, Italy and Germany, not, out of all teams, Australia. Mods should lock this thread.

This guy has to get away from that league.
I know we may have wishfully overhyped him a little throughout the years, but, nonetheless, talk about a wasted talent.

Which is why this Portuguese player should not be playing in the Greek NT.
-
Is Zeca really that much better than our ethnic Greek players?
I am for naturalizing foreighners only if their quality will substantially improve the team. IMO, Zeca may be good enough to crack our starting XI, but he will not take the NT to the next level.

He just announced it on his personal Facebook page as well. Unfortunate.

Karnezis
Sokratis K Papadopoulos Manolas
Torosidis Holebas
Samaris
Kone Fortounis
Karelis
Mitroglou
Attacking selections more up in the air, expect for Mitroglou. I would definitely try out a 3-man CB tandem, considering that is, by far, our most cemented position.

He is so highly regarded in the Bundesliga, playing for one of the better clubs in Europe. The NT must make the next World Cup in order to capitalize on their best ever CB duo with Sokratis and Manolas both in their prime years.
-
He is out for the next Greece match due to suspension, I believe.
-
So unfortunate. Not only are the NY Cosmos 2nd division USA, but American Soccer does not have promotion/relegation. He is stuck in a pretty laughable league for someone who`s had success in the CL, EURO and World Cup and, age-wise, should still be in his prime.
-
Yes, I do agree with you, but all I am saying, is that if there is a Greek player out there that has a shot of starring in the EPL, it`s Sokratis. If opportunity knocks, he cannot hold back because he is afraid of failure.
Just look at Kyrgiakos a few years back at Liverpool. He wasn`t the most well-rounded CB, but he was actually very good for them - downright dominant in a number of games.
-
He`s in Genoa.
-
Subotic and Hummels have different strengths than Sokratis. Doesn`t mean they`re better footballers.
-
Rockafeller, Sokratis turned 27 only two months ago - just entering his prime as a center back - and not 29, as you stated above.
With regard to him transferring to the premier league, Sokratis is an elite CB, and there is no reason why an elite CB cannot thrive in an elite league. He would do just fine.
Does he have to transfer to the EPL? No. BVB is a great club playing in a world class championship. Generally though, the prestige of playing in the historic Premier League, especially for one of the top clubs, is something that every footballer strives for.

Samaras would be a stud in the MLS. They gotta be kidding about NASL. I think the rumour is bogus anyway.
-
If this player was not constantly plagued with injury, he`d be starting for one of the biggest clubs in Europe by now.

Really hard to imagine that he cannot play MLS.
