  1. If Mourinho was coach we would definitely be playing some dire stuff. Mourinho though successful has never had his teams play attractive. Anyway that's a side issue. Santos was regressing by the end of his first year in charge but he did have a better collection of players than Otto did overall and it wasn't as sub-standard as Otto's last 6 years. Skibbe has no excuse in my opinion. He plays players without club form and those he does play usually are in their unpreferred position (Stafylidis, Karelis, Papadopoulos, Bakasetas, Diamantakos for example.) I'm 30 minutes in to the replay and yes there have been way to many cheap errors and giveaways but it's not like the Estonians have been dominating. The early goal allowed the Ethniki to cruise for right and wrong reasons. I'm not pleased that we would give up so much possession though. Tachtsidis has been a standout from what I've seen. Excellent football brain.
  2. Looks like the first team was playing against the Laszlo's. Always good to get a win.
  3. Well if anyone from Skibbe to EPO to his teammates care enough then they have 1 month to change his mind in time for the Bosnia match. I personally don't see Holebas ever playing again as long as Skibbe is in charge. Shame.
  4. The next 3 matches will determine everything. At least we are where we wanted to be in terms of points before the challenges.
  5. That defensive midfield pairing would be a concern against Belgium but seriously, against Estonia I'm not fussed.
  6. I can live with that side. I want to see Tachtsidis and Vellios get at least 25-30 minutes at some stage. Let's be honest that anything less than 3-4 goal win would be a failure and I can see that happening but I'm still having thoughts of losing to Faroe Islands and Luxembourg. I think that Estonia aren't as good or no better than Luxembourg at least and are probably inferior to the Faroes.
  7. Yes I'm reading the same here. That was Rehhagel's eventual downfall and if Skibbe thinks he can repeat what his German compatriot achieved by selecting players like Tziolis and Maniatis who are deemed not worthy to play for their clubs then he will learn soon enough how shortsighted and doomed to failure this approach is. Time will tell all. Even if there are wins against a poor Estonia and average Bosnia it's obvious that you must select the best and in-form players and not go with Charisteas as a right midfielder when he's not at a club.
  8. ^ Yes please. Given that Skibbe and EPO are entitled to call up 3 players for the injured trio but haven't, that's probably the best we can expect.
  9. Yes he has. Just 2 months ago Trabzonspor were apparently offering 6-7 million Euros for him. AEK declined apparently.
  10. Lol. I think as far fetched as that scenario is, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't enter the minds of a few people.
  11. That's great news. Now if we can pay someone to break Maniatis' and Tziolis' legs.
  12. I was the one worried about this match because the players can't motivate themselves for these types of matches albeit Cyprus is better than a Faroes Islands (anyone see how they beat Latvia away 0-2 today) or Luxembourg. Again a shut out in the 2nd half. We have seen this way too often of late. The team looks off the pace and spent after 45 minutes. This is where Skibbe needs to use his substitutes to better impact. Man we can go on about Tzavellas, Maniaitis and an out of position Stafylidis all day. Let's see what we do against Estonia away.
  13. It's not really about talent. I'm sure some will contradict that but look at the players who are eligible and most of them are regulars for their clubs. This group has some issues (attitude, psychology etc) and EPO and the current management/coaching team isn't able to sort it out. Who knows what the solution is?!
  14. It was a weaker lineup than what we have put out previously (missing Barkas, Ioannidis, Fountas and others) but surely we should not be losing to Israel by 4 goals. The current technical staff clearly can't get the best out of this group and its a concern. In the past Nioplias and Tsanas were getting better results.
  15. Nikopolidis should probably get the sack.
  16. I have no doubts about Mantalos. I feel we have a gun player. His skill and vision are only matched by Fortounis. He can play out wide but I prefer him behind the striker (Mitroglou). AEK fans who see him frequently might have a different view. I'm not an AEK supporter. 2 seasons ago when AEK were in the Football League (Second Division) and Mantalos was picked for the Ethniki it came as a surprise to me but when I actually went to YouTube to see him during his early career and also started watching Mantalos I was convinced that he is better than anyone we have. I feel that now more than ever. He scored a good goal versus Australia and he played a big role in the winner against the Netherlands.
  17. I fear this match more than playing Bosnia. I hope I'm wrong but I can see a loss or a disappointing draw.
  18. Obviously I'm not. Just trying to be as ridiculous as the statement I read here that Marinakis can even be compared to someone like Pablo Escobar.
  19. Marinakis and his criminal organisation have a very long reach. Apparently fixed the match against Celta.
  20. I thjnk we're all guessing here but Manolas was definitely high if not THE priority on Wenger's transfer list (also for Conte at Chelsea) but like aek66 says they wanted him on the cheap and with thaf 50% sale clause, Roma was never going to sell.
  21. You ultimately might be right, but I rate both of them as good as good as, if not better than the players you mention. I think we are all disappointed at the inconsistency of both of them primarily for the Ethniki. They should be brick walls against the teams we've faced over the last 12 months but they clearly have been anything but and probably been our worst players. I think for both Sokratis and Manolas this season is where they need to lift their game to world class levels. Also I think they are at different stages in their careers. Like Pana97 said, the English commentators were singing Sokratis praises against Real. It's not like he was playing against Ingolstadt in the German cup. This was against the reigning Champions League winners and he was very good in my opinion. Manolas on the other hand has clearly been distracted at the hype of a big move and he's been erratic. I personally think he needs a new challenge to a bigger club in a stronger league where he's surrounded by better players. That would show good he really is in my opinion.
