  1. Not a good day for our hammer throwers, Frantzeskakis finished with a mark of 72.98. He has work to do in getting use to the 7.25 hammer implement. Anastasakis is what I consider him as an underperformer. I honestly felt he was going to throw better than 76 meters today like he did at the European Throwing Cup and qualify. Other than the European Championship, he chokes in World Championships and the Olympic games. 75.07 was his mark btw, and that was no excuse from an athlete who was very consistent this season with his 75 to 76 meter throws.
  2. Apostolos Parellis finished 5th place, just 50 cm short of a bronze medal.
  3. Milan Trajkovic also advanced into the semifinals with a season's best 13.38, finishing 2nd in the heats.
  4. Apostolos Parellis broke the Cypriot National Record of 66.32! Sucks that he is in 4th place.
  5. Well, I was wrong, Vasiliou would be needing a time under 52 seconds in order to advance into the semifinals Poor showing from both sprinters, no surprise there Spanoudaki finished 7th in her heats at 23.48 Vasiliou finished 7th in her heats at 52.31
  6. Today, three Greek athletes will perform the track events Spanoudaki in the 200 meters, she will have to break her PB of 23.16 in order to reach the semifinals Vasiliou in the 400 meters, she will need to run about 52.50 to reach the semifinals Douvalidis should qualify for the semifinals, even around 13.52 is OK. Tomorrow in the men's hammer throw, Frantzeskakis will be throwing in Group A, while Anastasakis will be in Group B. Both have to throw well over 75 meters in order to qualify. 76.50 is the automatic standard qualifying mark.
  7. PAOK's unbeaten streak continues in the Greek Super League What is the streak BTW, and is it the longest ever?
  8. I forgot to mention Kyriakopoulou finished 13th place at 4.50. Drisbioti finished 22nd in the 20 km women's race walk with a time of 1:38:56
  9. Stefanidi gets bronze medal for Greece, finishing with a mark of 4.85 (Season's best) Both Sidorova and Morris were impressive today, Sidorova snatched gold from Morris on her last attempt at 4.95 to win gold, Morris settles for silver at 4.90.
  10. A good showing by both race walkers in the 50 km under such brutal conditions. Papamichail - 17th place 4:22:39 Makri - 14th place 4:54:09
  11. Tough place to play for the visiting team. With 3 points there and in need of a Bayern Munich win over Tottenham, Olympiakos will be in good shape for the path of the knockout round.
  12. ?????? Really Miltos? Only 7.79? What kind of a performance is that? And he made an excuse during his interview stating that the condition of the pitch makes him run faster than usual?
  13. Not a good day for the male Greek pole vaulters Both Filippidis and Karalis missed out on the finals, both finishing 5.70 and 5.60 respectively.
  14. Gloria Previletzio finished this grueling marathon in 29th place with a time of 2:58:43 Nowhere close to her PB, but hey; she did not quit, which I am very proud of her efforts. ?
  15. Tomorrow, Filippidis and Karalis competing in the men's pole vault qualification. Automatic standard mark is 5.75, Filippidis recently got his season's best of 5.75 at The Match - Europe vs. USA, he has a good chance to qualify. Karalis will need to break his PB of 5.71 in order to make the finals. Both Papamichail and Makri will race the 50 Km race walk at 23:30 local time. Hoping for a good showing and no DNF. Tentoglou will be our first Greek athlete to contest for a medal. Good luck!
  16. Some very good news Tentoglou manage to qualify on his third attempt at 8.00 meters to take part in his first World Championship Finals. Both Stefanidi and Kyriakopoulou have no problem going over 4.60 to take them to the finals. Crazy enough, 17 women vaulters are going to the finals. Skarevli put up a great effort, but not enough to qualify as she manage to get 69.65 on her final attempt. You were right Blackhawk, she needed to break her PB to get in. Tonight, the weather condition should be alright for the women's marathon as the temp. is expected to be around 85 degrees. I pray the runners will be in good spirits and not suffer badly from dehydration.
  17. When did you go to Houston during the summer? Here around late September/October, the weather isn't too hot and humidity can be less than 70% (dew point average around 65 to 69 degrees), it all depends on the overall weather pattern. Doha weather is still brutal at this time of year.
  18. Do you know how hot and humid Doha can be during the evening hours? Much worse than Houston.
  19. Tomorrow's events with the Greek athletes Men's Long Jump - Automatic Standard Qualifying 8.15, possible mark for qualification of best performance 8.05 Women's Hammer Throw - Automatic Standard Qualifying 72.00, possible mark for qualification of best performance 70.00 Women's Pole Vault - Automatic Standard Qualifying 4.60, possible mark for qualification of best performance 4.50 Women's Marathon - Will need a time of 2:20:50 or greater to medal
  20. So, UEFA decided to bring the UEFA Cup-Winners Cup back from the dead? ??
  21. Here is my outlook for the Greek athletes in Doha Tentoglou should reach the finals (8.00 meters or better) and contest for a medal. If he jumps past his PB of 8.32, I think he will win a medal. Skarveli is competing in her first World Championship, she has a long shot to qualify for the finals. If she can throw at least 69.50, she got a chance. Filippidis should qualify if he jumps over 5.60 minimum, Karalis on the other hand might struggle and fail to qualify. He has not been very consistent this season. Anastasakis is due to qualify in his first major World Championships Finals, he has been very stable throwing 75 meters or better. The automatic qualifying spot is 76 meters and he has not thrown that far since March 26 in Thessaloniki (76.63). Frantzeskakis is making his senior debut, will be a long shot for him. He would need to throw at least 74.50 to have a shot in qualifying. Papamichail will be racing in the 50 Km race walk, I think he will finish in the top 30 with a new PB. Drisbioti will be racing in the 20 Km race walk, I think she will finish in the top 30 as well. Makri will be racing in the 50 Km race walk, she will finish in the top 20. Stefanidi is qualifying for the finals and will medal for sure (Gold medal is not a lock though). Kyriakopoulou might qualify (4.60) if she is back in top form prior to her injury. Vasiliou will probably not reach the semifinals unless she runs under 52.50 Spanoudaki will probably not reach the semifinals as well unless she runs under her PB of 23.16 Douvalidis should reach the semifinals, but will need to break his SB of 13.46 in order to have the chance to reach the finals. Anagnostopoulou will not qualify for the finals unless she throws over 60 meters which she has not done so since August 2017 when she throw a PB of 61.53 Previlitzio will finish in the top 50 and possibly get a new PB.
  22. Hristoula Anagnostopoulou is going to the World Championship after IAAF gave her an invite, she accepted it. Elisavet Peseridou also was invited, but chooses to decline.
  23. Group B Standings Bayern Munich 3 pts GS 3 GA 0 GD +3 Olympiakos 1 pt GS 2 GA 2 GD 0 Tottenham 1 pt GS 2 GA 2 GD 0 Crvena Zvezda 0 pts GS 0 GA 3 GD -3
