There are several scenarios on who goes to UEFA Cup. The only way for a team finishing 6th in the league to go to UEFA Cup is if Olympiakos and AEK make the cup final. Here are the current standings for teams that have hopes of getting the 3 spots leading to the UEFA Cup. Six rounds of soccer still top be played. UEFA Cup zone standings after Round 24 4. Panathinaikos 66 points (UEFA Cup) 4. Iraklis 50 (UEFA Cup) 5. PAOK 48 (UEFA Cup) 6. Xanthi 47 (UEFA Cup) 7. Atromitos 45 8. Larisa 41 9. Kalamaria 39 10. Damianos Posted March 21, 2006 Share Posted March 21, 2006 That is what i would have said as well: Panathinaikos Iraklis PAOK Xanthi IF Larisa can get past Olympiakos in the Greek Cup Semi final it could make things very interesting, with one of these teams missing out. Also you said AEK would play in the Champions League ( 3rd Round Qualification Spot). Is this for sure with the success of the Russian and Romanian teams?? That will go into effect with the 2007-08 season. next season we still get 2 teams in CL (one team direct in group stage and one in qualifying round), and 4 teams in UEFA Cup. thrylos Posted March 23, 2006 Share Posted March 23, 2006 Paok needs to gut itself and rebuilt. If they make Uefa all those apateoneas will stick around for the money. They will spend money that they don't have and same ol same ol. If they don't make Uefa they can do things the right way like AEK is doing and build the team with youth again. Greece needs a healthy bunch of teams outside of Athens. I like what Larissa is doing and Xanthi. Let's hope OFI can get their act in order again. I do however think that Greece's best hopes would be for Pao to be in Champions League and have Larissa in there somehow. I like Iraklis's team but I have a feeling they will sell off their players and thus not do as well in Europe next year, costing Greece valuable points. Atromitos and Larisa still have a mathematical chance of making it, but I see that as being almost impossible. The only way the situation will change is if Larisa qualifies to the final of the Greek Cup. If that happens, only teams finishing 4th and 5th will make the UEFA Cup. Cypriot entry has been drawn against Albanian entry. If they win they'll play Croatian entry. As a result of this Iraklis is the first team to secure one of those spots. PAOK and Xanthi need just 3 points (even less if Atromitos drops points) in their last 3 games to secure their spots.
