Not a great deal of activity so far, but Rangers last night added to their squad with the addition of French defender Jose-Karl Pierre-Fanfan from Paris Saint Germain on a three-year deal.

He joins the 2 earlier signings, Brahim Hemdani from Marseilles and Ian Murray from Hibernian on free transfers.

Celtic meanwhile continue to be linked with a permanent move for Craig Bellamy. Newcastle have given both Celtic and Everton permission to speak to the player who spent the end of last season on loan at Parkhead.

He will join fellow Pole Maciej Zurawski, who completed his move from Wisla Krakow last week. The 27 year old striker who scored 27 goals last season for Wisla Krakow has signed a 3 year deal.

Rudolph Skacel, who spent last season on loan at Pao, is expected to sign for Hearts when he arrives in Edinburgh today. The Czech international has been recently linked with a move to Celtic.

Rangers striker Peter Lovenkrands has rejected a move to Benfica, following his recent rejection of Portsmouth. The Dane is clearly out of favour at Ibrox and has been advised by Alex McLeish to find a new club. His high wages and inflated ego could prove a problem in sealing a move. Who exactly is he expecting to sign him....... Chelsea or Barcelona?

They may not be up to much at the moment, failing to even qualify for Europe this season, but their billionaire Lithuanian owner has ambitions for the club. First he has brought in George Burley (ex Ipswich & Derby) as coach with Skacel only the first signing. Burley recognises that another 5 players are needed. Lithuanian striker Edgaras Jankauskas and the Czech pair of Michal Pospisil and Roman Bednar have been on trial for the past week.

Hearts have completed year long loan deals with Lithuanian side Kaunas players Edgaras Jankauskas and Roman Bednar. The relationship between Hearts and Kaunas is bound to be investigated at some stage with Hearts Lithuanian owner being listed as Kaunas' "main sponsor". Bednar was with Mlada Boleslav last season but was signed by Kaunas before being loaned to Hearts. 30 year old striker Jankauskas is of proven ability, previously playing under Jose Mourinho at Porto.

Celtic have taken Chinese international defender Du Wei on a week's trial. He could be set to replace Bobo Balde who is rumoured to be heading for Marseilles. A commonly used statement by players arriving at Parkhead appeared yet again: "They are one of the most famous clubs in Europe; a team with fantastic history." He probably dreamt of playing for the famous hoops as child in Shanghai ;) .
