Telstar 12 15W - Can we catch this from midwest?

Recommended Posts

It has nothing to do with Dishnetwork, so no benefit there.

kapsolas, here is a link to Telstar 12 footprint. There it says that it reaches as far west as Cleveland, Ohio, so I am not sure if it will make it all the way here to Chicago. also I am not sure what size of a dish you would need to pull this one.

I found the longitude and latitude of Chicago

through www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/imageg.htm

to be Chicago, IL (US): 41n51, 87w39, Illinois.

Then I entered that position to the satellite tracker

http://www.lyngsat.com/tracker/t12.html

and found that the dish to catch telsat12

should have approximate azimuth 101

and elevation 4 degrees.

Well, theoretically, any elevation above 0 is possible,

but it would be hard to get it.

One usually needs elevation at least 25 degrees.

And even if you have view of it, you may need a strong dish

since the signal goes for longer through the atmosphere.

You could try asking those who install dishes...

Antenna and Espn are on that sat (with dvb/powervu).

Hope it helps..

evalagoal. Telstar 12 is a satellite that is operating at 15 Degrees West, and is mainly intended to be received in Europe and Northern Africa, although the signal footprint might reach North America, and as asteri mentions you would need as big dish to receive those signals. It has nothing to do with Dishnetwork and their programming.
