Euphoria
I just bought the official Euro 2004 review on dvd which shows the highlights of every game. Before the Italy - Bulgaria game, the narrator said "If Sweden and Denmark were to draw 2-2, Italy would be out". I don't understand this. The table looked like this before the game: 1. Sweden 4 2. Denmark 4 3. Italy 2 4. Bulgaria 0 If Italy had won by 2 goals, wouldn't they advance regardless of what happened in the Denmark- Sweden game? What am i missing? Irlandos
What you are missing is that goal differential means nothing. It is the results among the clubs that are even on points that count. Thus: Denmark - Italy 0-0 Sweden - Italy 1-1 Sweden - Denmark 2-2 Thus (tied at 3 points): Sweden 3-3 Denmark 2-2 Italy 1-1 Sweden get 1st place, Denmark get 2nd. Irlandos
Btw, I don't think I've ever felt sorrier for a player as when I saw the total change in Antonio Cassano's expression, from one of joy :D to one of sorrow :( , in the space of a few seconds when he found out about the 2-2 result.
