Promotions to Superleague

It seems pretty definite that appeals by OFI and AO Trikala will be thrown out.

The playoffs will start(?) with Levadiakos at 4 points, Doxa at 2 and Panthrakikos at 1. Veria will start at 0.

The "gentlemen" that govern Greek football should realise that, with this late start - if the playoffs ever start - it will be very difficult for the winners to compete in the transfer market at this late stage for some decent players to help their team in the Superleague next season.

The madness continues!

Trikala got thrown out of the playoffs but are back in (as of right now). The playoffs will - FINALLY!!! - start on Friday, 22 July (hopefully this year).

Now, can someone explain to me

1. Why were these decisions not made and kept immediately after the B' League ended?

2. Why did they wait this late to start the playoffs?

3. Do they know how hot it is end-of-July?

4. Do they expect the winning team to scramble in just one month to buy players that will keep them in the A' League?

It's a pattern. Failed leaders and organizations are given power to decide. Over and over again. That is true for many segments of Greek society.

Maybe the people don't want change and prefer the familiar devils.

It's obvious to me that whoever is incharge of the league shouldn't be. Is it possible the clubs hire (or institute) a new agency to run football?

Don't they understand that lost credibility greatly injures the sport? (not to mention the image of the country)

OFI OLE OLE!

they deserve to be up, they are a first division club. they were in the top division for 30 some years and have a rich history. theyve had a good season and look to have the quality to compete in the a' ethniki. the match v levadiakos will be critical.

i got to watch part of the match, but missed this goal....already a contender sor goal of the season:

From the looks of it, athinaie, Oly Volou and AO Kavala will be handed the last two places in the Superleague 2011 standings.

What that means is: Iraklis, Oly Volou and AOK go down. Panserraikos and AE Larisa stay in the Superleague - despite their dismal performances last season - and Panaitolikos PAS Giannina and OFI (barring a miracle) will be promoted.

In summary, Panserraikos, Asteras Tripolis and AE Larisa, who finished in the last three places, will NOT be relegated.

Playoffs day 5

OFI - Doxa 2-0 (forfeit; Doxa didn't have enough players on the pitch)

Levadiakos - Diagoras 4-0

standings

1. OFI -----------15

2. Levadiakos --12

3. Doxa ---------6

4. Diagoras -----1

Pathetic. Not for Doxa but for the state of Greek football.

Even though local fans won't like it, it may make sense to combine clubs and reduce their numbers because the economics of Greece can't support this. Once, football was THE sport, now it's different. Plus people (and the youth) have many other distractions (and choices) than the previous generations. Add the sorry state and the corruption for many, many years, the sport hasn't grown.

Case in point: Euro 2004. Everybody got excited, national pride, and all. What after that??!! Steady decline in ticket sales! And, if one argues about the violence that caused this, I bet even the TV audience shrunk too.

If anyone has time to get confused, read this --> From SportAction (in Greek)

Basically it says that - provisionally - FIVE B' league teams will be promoted into the Superleague and 5 more will be demoted - including AO Trikala who should've been in the playoffs for promotion based on their season's performance and point totals.

Besides Panaitolikos, Giannena and OFI, two more clubs - Levadiakos and Doxa Drama - are listed as promoted since AO Kavala and Olympiakos Volos have been demoted due to match-fixing. In the meantime, Oly Volos are in the Europa League - and doing well - but may just get kicked out of there as well by UEFA.

PS. All this may change as EPO will make its final decision on Friday.

So why did UEFA wait for Volos to play a game before kicking them out? Why didn't give the spot directly to Aris? Instead, they'll now kick volos out and reward their next opponents with a "win" by default, effectively punishing Greek football for trying to get its house in order

Should EPO hold up their prior ruling that AO Kavala and Olympiakos Volos are demoted for match-fixing, the playoffs served the purpose of eliminating ONE team - Diagoras Rhodes - from promotion.

Should EPO change their minds, than these miserable playoffs served the purpose of getting OFI promoted.

The funny thing is: should EPO punish Oly Volos, they will be punishing Greek football as UEFA will get into the act and throw them out of the Europa League.

After the acceptance of Kavala and Olympiakos Volos' appeals, no more teams will be promoted from the Football League (B' Ethniki).

Giannena, Panaitolikos, OFI are the three teams that go up. It's "wait till next year" for Levadiakos and Doxa.

This is Greece, "
