He’s an awesome scorer at club level. Not so much internationally. 1 goal every 4 games doesn’t cut it.

he's never gotten a proper 90. probably if you combine all those appearances it's like 60 minutes total. maybe less. they put him on like last 5 minutes of the game if I recall correctly.

  2. koulouris 23 goals in 31 appearances... how many tap ins can he really have at atromitos. also scored against oly last weekend

cisse put up those kind of numbers and got called up for france. surely koulouris should get a 90 with this kind of form.

Maybe we are not strong enough to be able to experiment against minnows (think of the Estonia home game).

I wouldn't describe Estonia as a minnow to be nitpicky. they're more on par with Cyprus. They have a few very quality players like Klavan who was an important player for Liverpool.

Minnows to me are countries that even people who know geography don't know exist like Gilbratar, Faroe Islands, Leichenstein etc.

I remember some people here were comparing Tsartas and Tachtsidis. Different playing styles and played in different positions. Fortounis and Ninis are more comparable to Tsartas. I’m not knowledgeable about him as I stared following the team during Euro 2004 just like @georgelaz. Ive seen clips, he was very good at set pieces and had an eye for a pass.

tachtsidis is a good long passer through balls.

tzavellas actually in his prime might've been our best FK taker post euro. Lazaros is good at them with power and Fortounis has more precision but less power.

ninis's golden zone was so long ago that I can barely remember his free kicks.

Samaras was a creative option and we rode of that for years. When he stopped playing we didn’t know how to create except on the odd occasion we have guys like Ninis time in the middle

most similar player to Samaras I think of now is Arnautovic (just Samaras was more cool headed) LM/ST combo very tall 6'4 but plays like a smaller flair player

breed all those players together, they would never come close to tsiarta's vision or left foot...NEVER

I got into NT during euro 2004. the actual tourny. I somehow just started watching the group stages. very unsual. So I never got to see him in action while he was going at it in his prime. It does seem like he was a class above but we still have some creative players is all I'm saying.

That's what I said alot of these Bosnians have this mentality that they are so superior in football to us when they have accomplished what one wcup appearance? As I said earlier I doubt they will ever reach a semi final of a major tournament and will never come close to what Greece did in 2004 and for a decade after that.

they're 3 best players are very good = dzeko, pjanic, visca

but our 3 best players are equally as good = manolas, sokratis, mitroglou/fortounis

and then the rest of our squad is above average whereas the rest of their squad is pretty bad and a lot of players who struggle to even start for a top 4 greek superleague side (ie cimerot was squad player in greece but a starter for bosnia)

the reason why bosnia is always edged is human laziness because it's easier to see attacking stats over defensive. whenever people think of the best players they think ronaldo, messi etc. not ramos or van dijk

their defense is much weaker compared to ours though so even though dzeko is better then mitroglou their like of talent on that level makes them easy to score against. eg) how cyprus came back from 2-0 down to win.

still a long road to go but I think bosnia basically shot themselves in the foot with this game. when greece builds momentum, belief we're super hard to beat. now we have them in greece at home and we'll likely have manolas, torosidis back. if we're playing well too the stadium might be packed like vs. romania

It’s hard to decide now who should play because Kourbelis and Siovas had great games against Lichtenstein and Bosnia. Kourbelis is better suited as a CB. I wonder who plays and what formation. Obviously Manolas will play but we do we leave our Siovas?

Also with Retsos coming back he should play over Bakakis and Torosidis. Bakakis is horrible and he is very weak. Not good enough defensively. I like what I saw from Kourbelis, he should have a starting spot. Zeca ran and fought hard all game. I’ve never seen someone with so much stamina. Masouras and Donis can be our attacking threats.

This is what I’d do next game.

    Vlaxo

    Retsos Manolas Sokratis Koutris

    Kourbelis Zeca

    Fetfatzidis Fortounis Donis

    Durmisaj

I have a good feeling with Durmisaj. Mitroglou is too slow and can be an impact sub. Same for Mantalos. Kolovos proved himself today and should be considered again. Masouras also another option off the bench. Fetfatzidis has to make his way back to the team. He has been doing well at Aris so far.

In midfield there is no difference if you play Samaris or Kourbelis. They are both decent as I chose Kourbelis because he impressed me more. I wish there was a place for Siovas because he is great. Koutris played very well also.

durmisaj over koulouris? koulouris has to be way better he just hasn't been given minutes for NT

that's another misleading thing about NT stats. most players first 20 apperances are only like 5-10 minutes lol

Fortounis is a game changer.. But he did give the ball away too much needlesit s at times. He also had an opportunity late in the game to cross the ball in the box with three or four guys there and it went straight to the goalie almost looked like he was taking a shot?

Overall second half was fantastic from the players to the coach..

it seems that he was fatigued by 70th and that's when he started giving balls away. mental fatigue is a thing too and being one of the only creative outlets he had to think for 10 people.

  10. probably a bad idea but I wonder if Zeca as a RB would be good. He's a decent crosser, defender and engine. Kourbelis and Samaris when in form are good cm's too. (at least until toro/retsos are back)

I don't think bakakis is that bad though, I think he just had a bad game. He' shares a lot of the qualities that Zeca has.

    could be something like this

              mitroglou

    donis fortounis  masouras

         kourbelis samaris

    koutris sokratis manolas zeca

                   odyesseas

It was nice to finally see a coach make the proper adjustments and bring in the right personnel to help turn the game around. We obv had some luck with the red card, but we had already started to turn the tide before that. 2nd half and end of the 1st half, we were a different team. Fortounis was dog s#it in the last 15 mins, gave the ball away at least 8 times, but he busted his a$$ all game and was doing everything he could to make things happen, so I don't blame him. The only thing is he should have brought kolovos and koulouris on sooner to help support fortou and donis so they didn't wear out cause you could see it happening with all the running they were doing early on and into the start of the 2nd half.

Hopefully our coach learned today not to play stupid m@lakia line ups, cause it almost cost us. Put on your best starting 11 and f'n go at it. Non of this bs we've seen in the past against Sweden in '08, Argentina in '10 and Germany in' 12. Unless everyone is out injured and you have no choice, play a proper and your best line up, end of story!

If this was Skibbe, he would have subbed fortounis and donis off to start the 2nd half! Honestly all I kept thinking today was "don't bring on bakasetas please!"

good point. has a strange starting 11 ever been effective?

only one I can think of that got us a draw was vs. turkey 0-0 where samaris and mitroglou were our only attacking players (samaris is not even a pure attacker). we played really bad but succeeded in shutting them down.

The result is big.  Fair to say we should be happy with a score draw.

As for the goals we conceded, the players committed sins today.  Those goals should NEVER go in at that level.

    1) The first goal, why isn't there one man around the "D" ?  Seriously, my junior coaches taught us these basics when I was a kid.  If you allow the opposition to just shoot like that, you deserve to concede.  I've read comments the goal was lucky but I don't agree.  We allowed the corner taker to see the option, he played it, and the BH player had a shot.  After that, anything can happen, and behold it did.  Worse than a school boy error on our part.  If you simply position a man to guard the "D" this goal doesn't happen.

    2) The free kick from Pjanic.  Same again.  School boy defending.  Sure, he's not that good.  I mean, he only plays for Juventus and is being courted by Real Madrid.  Here mate, we don't need to setup a wall because you're just a no name player that couldn't score to save your life.  And for the people that said it's Vlachodimos mistake, that is ridiculous.  That shot would not be saved by any keeper in the world.  It was perfect.  But if you setup a wall, it's 95% no goal.

So we concede two goals from defending that is Kastoria FC level.  Unacceptable.

Moving forward hopefully we tighten up because we will definitely not qualify conceding stupid goals like this.

The plus (and this is a BIG plus) is that the team didn't fold and showed heart.  That is all on Ange.  His team selection I don't understand but his motivational skills have always been good.  Overall, considering the first 20 minutes and at half-time we 2-0 down this is a great result.

Ange summoned the spirit of the holy trinity as half time, sigoura.

20 first min are always the hardest in a heated environment such as sarajevo

our team is very young and lacks that kind of maturity to be able to keep calm during the storm

but we fought back and got a great result, under the circumstances

there are things to work on here .... good signs

bad communication from vlacho. he wanted a 3 man wall and only zeca was there.

he's our best keeper for sure but he still needs to build chem with everyone (zeca and him were teamates at pao so that's why he understood i'd imagine)

The attitude of some of these Bosnians is so laughable!

Were are the new Bosnian posters on this forum??

eh to be fair those guys were very nice and civil. they're probably the more enlightened ones to find this forum. I'd rather it just be greek soccer fans though so we can be a bit more cheeky.

PS what happened to Vranjes? some guy on youtube said he was kicked out of the Bosnian team for sticking up for AEK fans? he's a great cb

Bosnia lack the mental toughness in these matches that's why Im not sold on them. They have two great players in Pjanic and Dzeko but we all saw Pjanic lose his mind and take a straight red for nothing. You cant do those things in these big matches and expect to win.

they're hot heads and our players caught on to this and were trying to be extra civil to calm them down.

  16. I'm craving some post match interviews with players/coaches and analysis but hard to come by from smaller nations playing each other.

We had the fighting spirit vs. Belgium and Bosnia last series too.

was only the euro 2016 qualifier that was really that bad. going out to world cup finalists without one of our best defenders manolas (getting short end of stick on uefa on that call)
