  1. Tsimikas scored in the last round in a 2-2 draw against Vitesse Arnhem. His team Willem II finished 13th,  so they didnt get relegated. All in all he played 33 games, scored 3 goals and gave three assists. He had a good season, maybe he should have been called up last time instead of the likes of Nikolaou and Risvanis?

Thanasis Karagounis played 2 games (52 minutes) for Zwolle. He gave even one assist in April against Roda but he will be released at the end of the season.

Kostas Lamprou played 90 minutes for Ajax in a 2-1 away win against Excelsior Rotterdam. This was his sole game in the whole season (and he played 10 times for the U21 team but he is 28). His contract wont be renewed.

  2. Belgian Playoff I results: Charleroi finished sixth (team of Marinos), Standard Liege was second (Koutroubis played 3 games in the playoff and 4 in the league, they won all of these games), Genk finished fifth (Karelis featured six times; 1 assist + zero goal which means his stats in the whole season are 20 games/4 goals/4 assists).

Playoff 2: Kitsiou (36 games, 2 assists), Goutas (21 games, 1 goal) and Charisis (22 games, 1 goal, 2 assists) were in the starting XI in the last round. Kitsiou missed a penalty. Galitsios played 9 times in the last five months (one assist) as Excelsior Mouscron avoided relegation. Papazoglou played 14 games for Kortrijk and scored on one occasion.

you're kidding right? besides the Bosniaks, I don't think is true.

Serbia was invaded by the Turkish army in the fifteenth century I think. They remained there for a couple of centuries. I cant think there is a lot of people who are ethnologically Serbians.

  4. So far Katidis has played 22 games for his Czech Second League team in the current season. He scored eight goals and gave four assists; on the last ten occasions he played he wore the captains armband.

After a lot of mediocre seasons this is possibly the first step in the right direction. Czech Second league is arguably stronger than Ykkönen and Katidis was way better this year than in the autumn when he played for FF Jaro.

  5. He was injured for a long time. After that, he has not been the same. This is clear.

His fitness level was always low I guess. This backfires after a while, even if you are by nature as big and strong as a horse. Samaras has been like this. Kyrgiakos too. Many African players are the same (or are they age cheats? Ifeanyi Udeze who played for PAOK, for example. Retired at 28 lol. Odiah, Taiwo, Onazi, Lukman Haruna, Yussuf, Obasi, Kaita, Martins etc. etc.)

Look at Ibrahimovic: he has always been as big as a mountain but he always worked on himself physically and he scored many times in EPL and Ligue 1 well over 30! Samaras couldnt score more than FOUR times in the last four years if we count league games only. With more than sixty games under his belt. In mediocre championships like LaLiga2, 1. Lig, US Second League (dont know its name), Saudi Professional League (a league where Tziolis is a regular starter).

These guys usually go to the dogs when they are over 29. Even great stars like Shevchenko, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Owen, to a lesser extent Kaka and F Torres, then Podolski, Schweinsteiger, Adriano, Mendieta, Kily González, Guardiola etc. etc. can go that way. Its not enough that youre talented. You can be even a great genius like Ronaldinho, if your physical form is average, your health and form will rapidly deteriorate over the age of 30. Supporters and journalists wont understand what happened. Why did the form of Torres/Shevchenko drop in a spectacular way after they had signed for Chelsea? Surely because of the club. ROTFL. Not because they were about 29 AND their physical form was very average. Oh no. They couldnt live only on their outstanding talents.

Cristiano Ronaldo, however, is in outstanding form (physically) thats why he is so prolific at the highest level at the age of 33. Same goes for players like Lampard, Scholes, Giggs, Drogba, Van der Sar (okay he was a keeper), to a lesser extent David Villa, many Brazil players like Ze Roberto who retired at 42 etc. etc.

The Greek versions of these footballers: Karagounis and Vyntra (outstanding physical state well over the age of 30, they have been never seriously injured etc.) vs. Kyrgiakos and Samaras (they fell off the radar after the age of 29).

  6. I think Skibbe has learned the "closed club" idea from Rehhagel (they met earlier I think) and Bakasetas is a member of his group of players who will be always there unless theyre injured. The idea in itself would be good but choosing Bakasetas to be a member of that group is really silly. That guy cannot play regularly for AEK (an average side at international level, or should I say Greek league is average?) even after the injury of Mantalos (they have one CAM less). Of course, such a choice shows his limits.

  7. To be fair, Skibbe is not a hopeless case. Zeca was added to the squad by him. He has wanted to secure the services of Villafanez too (we really need some attacking midfielders beside Fortounis and Pelkas, who seems to be a promising NT player). And I can even understand EPO that they are afraid to hire a new coach who could be easily another Ranieri, Markarian or Tsanas (that is, worse than Skibbe). There are not many coaches right now who know Greek football and are available. Santos, Valverde and Jardim have their jobs now. Only Míchel is available (he was sacked by Malaga in January), could he be the right solution?

Fortounis does get some quality chances from time to time but honestly he looks like one of our laziest players that kind of sucks the energy out of the team.. yes he is a good player but rarely shows it for the national team.. I think Pelkas should be given more opportunities going forward. Baks should not be a starter for this team as he is just s%$#!...  Samaris shows flashes but mostly disappoints and his pass selection and giveaway from time to time is mind blowing...  Donis is one player that brings a lot of energy and speed and usually creates something for us... Mitro is our go to go but such a one dimensional player that cant do anything else but score from time to time... We cant score goals and we hardly get any shots on target, our offence looks horrible yet we don't give a guy a shot that scores regularly that has great ball control and some speed in Fetfa.... This is crazy... Skibbe has no system and no clue of what to do out there and what players to choose.. We seriously cant move forward with him here.....  The fact that he said in his press conference he was very pleased on how we played and he felt very positive just shows me how much of a useless coach he is..

Skibbe tries to imitate Rehhagel (closed club policy, essentially defensive tactics), he even seeked his advice but 1) he picks the wrong players again and again, 2) he plays them sometimes in the wrong position (Zeca on the wing, Maniatis as a fullback), 3) he makes stupid changes (yesterday Donis was subbed off, Bakasetas remained on the pitch, Lazaros got only half an hour, Koulouris came in for Mitroglou instead of Karelis etc. etc.). Rehhagel is a famous coach of the last fifty years (alongside the likes of Sacchi, Mourinho, Ferguson, Michels, Carlos Bianchi, Guardiola), Skibbe will be always only a feeble imitation of that legendary trainer. All in all, the performance of the team reflects the personality of the manager as somebody said here after the Croatia game. This is not a group of fighters but a rather dull side that sometimes simply cannot score.

  9. An Ultimatum to the EPO

    1. Enough of this. Skibbe must go at once.

    2. Some of the current players - Bakasetas, Samaris, Koulouris, Kourbelis, Tziolis, Donis, Vellios, Siopis, Gianniotas - should be banned for a life by EPO.

    3. Barkas, Gianniotis, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Tachtsidis, Karelis, Tzavellas should be replaced before Monday by more trustworthy and more promising guys: Chalkias, Konstantopoulos, Siovas, Marinos, Vyntra, Moras, Avraam, Zaradoukas, Patsatzoglou, Fotakis, Pliatsikas, Maniatis, Katidis (his ban should be lifted), Mantzios.

    4. Otto Rehhagel must be rehired at once (Santos is not available). The terms of his contract will be drafted by the community of Phantis Forums.

    5. Giannis Topalidis and Leonidas Vokolos will be his assistants.

    6. Takis Fyssas should return to the position of technical director of the EPO.
