  1. Would it not be best to put Taxi into DM, his passing range is great and if he can close down attacking raids towards the fullbacks, well.. Sorry to draw this parallel again, is he no slower than Jedinak but with superior vision perhaps? Should be trusted there then. Samaris can then play as a natural 8.

  2. On the assumption Mitroglou does run a lot on high press, who is the astute understudy,Karelis or Klaus then with their speed?

I was engaged back when Hellas won the Euro and I went to Brighton in Sydney with my best man then and Bay Street was shut with three massive screens on different buildings and the whole main road was chock full of supporters. I parked blocks away and we walked up. It was about 1;45am. I wore the souvenir champions t shirt the other night again when Greece played the Melbourne match the other night. No I didn't get fat.

Hellas are too good not to make the next big tournament, I believe we have a definite strong team with good back up. The team gives the impression that it started to settle since the Turkey game and more so lately.

  3. Perhaps Ethniki is best served then with Mantalos as AM, and a roving Fortounis as a right winger.. Who goes left, Cholevas, Pelkas, Bakasetas, Karelis or Kone? At least the big  name players that missed these matches will be available for Ned and Russia matches. That should be good preparation for them, on top of these. Is KPaps available as noboby in the world really knows?

Mantalos's goal was so quick, he struck like a leopard. That quality is something fierce.

  4. Can I get this out there then, if our wingers are say, Mantalos and Pelkas, do we lack in physicality, even though they have alot of speed? Bakasetas looks likely, although he lacks experience, he seems thicker set. Laz had mentioned in the past about Fortouni's great ability to pass back inside from the wing. Are we served better with a midfield of Bakasetas/Kone  Mantalos Fortounis?

  5. Man, the 'Afgan' just launched and it hit the mark. The players looked like they were doing their best and having fun at the same time. I honestly feel Skibbe has created a good atmosphere.

Bring on the Netherlands game. I really wonder If Fortounis would of scored that exact goal that Mantalos scored in Melbourne, with the same flair? Does he walk back in as AM? That goal had world class written all over it.

  6. More importantly the team looks to have a good bond and that being the case, could well translate into wins, and good teams make their own luck. Maniati looked ahead, launched and it went straight. That hopefully has gone a fair way toward transforming the team's morale. Not long ago there was infighting.

  7. With a couple more friendlie to try more systems, the squad is shaping up nicely with Samaris making DM position his own. Maniati showed he has more skill than we gave him credit for. The midfield had to eventually come together so the whole team works. The first match vs Cyprus might look like this;

    Karnezis/Kapino

Torosidis ©   Manolas Sokratis (vc)  Cholevas

    Samaris (future c)  Maniatis

    Fortounis  Mantalos  Karelis

    Mitroglou

    Vellios Papazoglou

    Kone  Fetfatzidis  Bakasetas

    Petsos  Tachtsidis

    Kyriakos Stafylidis  Tzavellas

    Kapino/Karnezis  Vellidis

  8. Like to think Petros Mantalos at AM. If so, I won't mind Tziol starting if that happens. I actually hope to see Tachtsidis start with Samaris-although may not play due to injury. If so, Taxi alongside Maniati the man! I'm think Pelkas is available for this one, if so, like to see him play during the match.

I certainly hope that Maniati turns to acting in Greek dramas when he retires.

Skibbe must play up through the middle vis Samaris, Taxi and Mantalos and via the right to Gianniota. Stuff going to Torosidis every play then crossing to M Ryan. That is a real pisser. Need structure coach!

  9. It is impossible to blame Vellios and Diamantakos for not having any influence on the Sydney match, the boring midfielders that Skibbe had chosen stifled the attack. I hope Skibbe wakes up out of the trance and plays Mantalos at AM, this will change how we look in attack, given he will be available for the Melbourne match.

Need some shots on goal  in any given match. That was the Worst midfield combination to come to these shores ever from out of Europe. Very very poor. Imagine Tzioli played, but can't blame him for that.

How has Mitroglou put up with that for so many years without saying anything?

Their tactics look similar to what Socceroos were doing in 2014. The edge players pump it up and cross in to goal, in Greece's case, to their tall strickers, usually Mitroglou though, in Sydney it being Vellios.

  10. As Australia have the same problem, the Ethniki Must solve their front third problem, it seems that a lack of a quality AM/dekari stifles their central strickers, whether it be Vellios or Mitroglou or anyone else. Not playing a decent dekari for me says a coach is an amateur. I feel for our Ethniki till we actually land a decent coach. I find it difficult from now on to ever blame Mitroglou in future when he isn't able to influence a match. That is the worst midfield to ever come to these shores from Europe, no doubt.
