  1. 9 Points after 3 games. I cant remember the last time that has happened for us. The finals comes down to Sunday a win and we dominate this group. It may be way too early to say this but this team has a different feel under Poyet, they look more confident, they are better defensively and as we can see they are still creating chances. This is the most optimistic i have been about this team in a long time. I fully understand the quality of teams we are playing but for the last 5 years we haven't been able to walk away with wins and look good doing it. I really hope this is the turning point for the Ethniki and we continue to improve while getting results.  for the amount of times i have spoken bad about Bakasetas i have to now give him credit for his play at late and he's acting like a leader out there and is on fire for the NT right now. Lets keep it going and end this on Sunday with a win at home against Kosovo

An interesting comment from Chatzidiakos in the pre-match press conference about the difference in philosophies between Poyet and JVS. Essientially he said JVS wanted possession, while Poyet places an emphasis on grabbing a goal. Not surprising considering JVS is from the Dutch school of football where possession is everything.

The truth is no matter how bad we want to be side that dominates the ball, it's hard to turn professionals into that. What I mean is that the change needs to be done at a lower level and passed on to kids who are currently 12-16. It needs to become a style that kids grow up playing, not one they learn when they are 24 and have been professional footballers for 6 years already.

Poyet's style of grabbing a goal probably suits the NT currently and fits more with the current Greek footballing landscape. So we may see more success with him at the helm with this current crop of players. It's just an interesting comparison and does raise the question of footballing philosophy.

    The quote in full:

Για το τι έχει αλλάξει με τον Πογέτ:  Πογέτ προσπαθεί να μας δώσει το winning mentality. Αυτό έχει αλλάξει περισσότερο. Με τον Φαν Σιπ παίζαμε περισσότερο με κατοχή, τώρα παίζουμε για να βάλουμε γκολ και όχι να κρατήσουμε την μπάλα".

I completely agree and its kind of refreshing to hear.. Its more of a style the NT has always been accustomed to playing. There's no point to just keep possession if all the team is doing is back passing majority of the game which we seen a lot in the later days of JVS and lots of times the team just looked uncomfortable and confused at times. I don't wont to get my hopes up as we've seen what's happened in the past but I'm feeling optimistic so far..

Just go on where it says canales(channels) and click on the drop down box and click deportes(sports) and bam has all the live games and replays!! Your welcome !! Lol

    That’s awesome man thanks!!!

  4. Just listened to Poyets post Game press conference and I love what I heard from him, he said the following

“ I’m happy with the two victories and the six points and I’m  happy in this game in the second Half how his team controlled the ball but now he needs to work with the team to have pretty much a killer instinct to go for that second and third goal and put these teams away and that’s what he will be focussing on”

Winning our Nations League group would guarantee us a play-off spot for Euro 2024. So if we aren't able to qualify directly through the qualifiers (to be played in 2023) then we know we have a shot through the play-off tournament. Not to mention improving our ranking and allowing Poyet and the team to gel and gain confidence heading into the qualifiers.

Are you sure? I thought they made some changes and now you don’t get another chance to qualify for the Euros via the nations league.. I could be wrong but I thought that’s what I heard..

If we want Greece to be at the level of qualifying for tournaments consistently, they need to beat a team like NI by multiple goals. How many 1-0, one-off victories have the boys put in over the years only to never have consistency?

But, a win is a win.

I completely agree with you but on the other hand it is the coaches first competitive game so let’s give them a little bit of time and secondly when has Greece ever beat anybody in the past by more then 1 goal. In saying that I believe with wingers like Masouras, Tzolis, Douvikas and a striker like Giakoumakis and hopefully at some point Fortounis  there is no reasoning on we shouldn’t be able to win by a couple of goals against these types of teams..

  7. Here is my take.

Great first half as we created some chances and gave them nothing. The 2nd half especially from the 70th minute and on we sat back to deep at let them control the ball, where if we played similar to the first have where we gave them nothing it could have been an easier night. Overall good first start for the NT and the coach and a big 3 points. A few player mentions below.

Bouchalakis - Should not be starting he does a few things okay but over all he's a turnover machine especially with his passes and his quick first touch is bad.

Mantalos - For me does nothing and we have better options and in no way he should be our first option starting.

Siopis - An incredible game and the best I've seen him play for this team and definitely deserves to start again if he plays like that, The guy was everywhere and worked his ass off.

Giakoumakis - needs to be the regular starter and our main striker for this team and if our wingers can open up more space for him he can be dangerous.

    Tsimikas - another solid performance

The subs were all wrong in my opinion but we can't be to hard on Poyet as he's still learning about this team and hopefully he figures it out sooner rather then later.
