  1. Biggest game for us. 3 points is a must anything less really kills our chances. I've been listening to a few podcasts leading up to this game and everyone seems shocked that Poyet didn't call Douvikas (whos now been called up due to injury) and Fortounis at the very least as a bench option. So far Poyet has done a good job but if they don't win this game and fail to create chances he will get a lot of criticism for his decision. In  saying that LETS GOOOO!

  2. Poyet: "If everything goes well in five days I'll be a good coach"

Speaking at the Media Day of the "blue and white", Federal coach Gustavo Poyet mentioned the preparation that our internationals have been making in recent days in view of the two clashes.

    Gustavo Poyet stated in detail:

For both games: "In any case what we have to keep in mind is the game against Ireland. We need to win that match to have the chance to continue.”

On the match against Ireland: "It's a big step towards our goal, which is to qualify for EURO 2024."

For the fans: "The message is for the fans to be next to the team." "Lots of Ireland friends will come so we have to get next to the team, feel at home, support the players of the National Team and it's very easy when the stadium is full to beat any opponent."

For the players: "So far things have been very good. Everyone is so far ok and this gives the chance to pick the best for the starting line-up and stand on the bench. We'll also see on Friday when everyone will be here.

What the team has worked on: “We have worked on the basis of the two systems that Ireland has been playing in recent years. We want to defend and attack and be ready for both systems. And the main thing is that the team has to be in a position to perform on the field as Guardiola and Inzaki say."

On the exclusion of Douvika, Fortouni or Kyriakopoulos: "It's simple, when you're a coach in the National Team, you have the ability to choose who you think is the best at that time. If all goes well in five days, I will be a good coach, if we lose we will see what happens.

Congratulations also to Uruguay for winning the Mundial U20."

  3. Right now there is no advantage between Greece, Netherlands and Ireland. We have to assume that everyone is going to beat Gibraltar and everyone is going to lose to France so even though the Netherlands and Ireland have a loss we are all on level playing ground right now. The advantage will occur in June between Greece and Ireland and who ever can get 3 points. A draw will not help us at all. The draw will benefit Ireland if they come into our stadium and take a point. In a dream scenario Greece beat Ireland and somehow pull off a miracle draw in France, that would really give us a huge advantage.

First half was great how we moved the ball quickly and created so many chances. Their goalie made some great saves especially in the opening half. Our problem is as always we barely get goals from our strikers. Pavlidis was really disappointing couldn’t take a chance & he even took a through ball away from an open Mantalos running in at the back post. Giakoumakis didn’t do much coming on. Douvikas should have got a call up! Bakasetas was strong today. Fortounis spreads the ball around so beautifully and his vision is stellar. Good thing this was not a qualifier but we need to be winning these matches vs Lithuania and Malta to get our ranking up so we don’t get another horrible draw for the 2026 World Cup.

I don't know why Douvikas and Tzoliz were not called up it makes no sense unless there were reasons I'm not aware of.  Poyet now has his core players he's comfortable with but more tinkering needs to be done on the wings and Douvikas needs to be called up in June. We can also see what a difference Fortounis makes on the field when he's playing. The Line up for me looked so much more dangerous against Lithuania then it did against Gibraltar. Siopis has really impressed me with his work ethic, I also thought Rota had a strong game. Mantolas i don't mind in the midfield position since that is our weakest position i think he can do a decent job there.
