Why is anyone comparing the MLS to the SL or any other European league for that matter ? Other than someone making a dig at forum posters who live in the US its a completely different product all together. Latino based squads with past great names, Franchises, no relegation, designated players , big club budgets ,community gatherings at games , teams based in large cities etc etc. Greek teams will never face the American or Australian ones and no comparisons should be made. The long term plan in Greece is how to attract the past larger fan base to attend games again in numbers. There is no magic wand to say that by changing one thing ( take your pick from any of , corruption, hooliganism, lack of money to bring better players in, focus back on the youth academies, additional revenues from sponsorships, TV deals etc ) It will take ages to fix the SL if it ever can so they need to accept and manage realistic expectations and not live off past glories.

He did have a fantastic Season under extreme pressure of relegation at Leceister. That means nothing when he and all the other past 32-33 year old journeymen come to play in the Greek league especially if they are defensive midfielders and expected to play next to average players with little creativity. When Gilberto Silva came to PAO at a certain veteran age he had quality next to him in midfield plus the luxury of Cisse up top. Imagine a similar type midfielder coming now to this current PSO team, you'd expect him to do what that could instantly change the fortunes of the team ? Cambiasso will do ok as will Essien if he stays relatively fit. Just ok.

When you don't have the financial muscle to compete at a higher level you normally should try to build a team from the defense up and not the other way around. Don't have the defensive base to be focused and solid enough to go to Brugges and get a result. At some point you just knew the team would concede a stupid goal and it did. I think our ownership and coaches underestimated the apparent weaknesses on this team and did not address them correctly. Shame really cause Brugges wasn't anything special. I don't see Fetfatzidis as selling out his career. That's a hell of a lot of money for any Pro to make in a less stressful environment where he will get to play albeit vs much inferior opposition Like why would he give all that money up anyway ? He's been a pro for 5-6 years now and was never more than a part time player on any team and was coached by over a dozen different ones who all of them never rated him as a starter or a crucial player long term. Looked like a marginal professional from day one. Circus act not a footballer at the top level. I have more respect for guys like Stafylidis. Not the most talented or creative on the ball but a hard worker and willing to go down a level with his team to showcase himself.

Markarian was at one point a great tactician and motivator. That 00-04 team was coached and motivated by a truly great psychologist / coach but was extremely fortunate to have at his disposal at least 8-10 experienced players that had endless leadership qualities and a set of balls. The problem is that in the last few Seasons they have made some serious expensive transfer F*** ups in buying Sakho and , Lovren who neither settled in and were actually garbage so they might be a little scared buying another big name defender. I still can't get over the last two months of football this club has played under this ponce of a manager and the overrated highly paid rubbish players they decided to sign only 12 months earlier.
