  1. -- SKIBBE SCOUTING DIMITRIS KOLOVOS & OLYMPIACOS’ YOUNG TALENT -- Dimitris Kolovos has had a great season in Belgium, catching the eye of Greek National Team coach Michael Skibbe. In addition to Kolovos, Olympiacos’ young talent could be getting a call up to the Men’s team in the near future. Dimitris Kolovos has had a great season in the Belgian Jupiler League for Mechelen and has caught the attention of Michael Skibbe. The 23-year old is on loan from Olympiacos and has made 21 league appearances while scoring four goals and 2 Cup appearances with one goal. He mainly plays behind the central forward, but is also capable of playing on the wings, a position that lacks players in our National Team. Michael Skibbe is not keen on making changes to the National Team as he looks to keep his “closed club” strategy. However, as a couple of players remain without a team (Maniatis and Tziolis) and a crucial qualifier in Belgium approaches (March 25), Skibbe could make some new callups (ex. Kolovos) in positions that the Ethniki lacks. The German coach has also started his scouting for the “future” of the Greek National Team as he attended Olympiacos’ game against Xanthi on Saturday (in addition to two other Superleague games over the weekend). Skibbe had eyes on Olympiacos’ 18-year old Retsos, 19-year old Androutsos, and 19-year old Manthatis. The three youngsters have had a good season thus far (Manthatis scored against Xanthi) and have not let their opportunities on the pitch go to waste. The three players have earned the confidence of Olympiacos coach, Paulo Bento, and have rightfully drawn the attention of Michael Skibbe for a possible call up in the future. The three players are members of Greece’s Youth National Teams. http://www.xxxyyyzzz (spam)/XXXxxxXXX (spam)-allnews/20170125-1
  2. Giannis Maniatis & Theofanis Tzandaris will have to look abroad for a club after Olympiacos released both players after the January 2017 transfer period window had been closed. I'm sure this means they can't transfer to any other Greek Super League team & the majority of European football leagues. I think the Russia Premier League & maybe one or two other European league are options, otherwise a stint in Asia, North America or Australia. http://www.sdna.gr/news-english/article/293091/olympiacos-terminate-maniatis-and-tzandaris-contracts
  3. Dimitrios Siovas made his debut for CD Leganés in overnight Spanish La Liga action. He played the full match in the center of the defense for CD Leganés, whom went down 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in Madrid.
  4. Go the therio! If he can stay fit & healthy, potentially can become one of the great central defenders. http://www.xxxyyyzzz (spam)/XXXxxxXXX (spam)-allnews/20170203-8
  5. Tzavellas made his Turkish Super Lig debut in Alanyaspor's overnight 2-1 loss away to Antalyaspor, playing the full match.
  6. Michalis Sifakis has been in goals in K.V. Kortrijk's last two Belgium Pro League matches, finally getting some game time in the 2016/2017 season in last weeks 3-0 away loss to Genk & in last nights 2-1 home win against Lokeren.
  7. I agree about playing a quicker & sharp passing game to give players like Fortounis & Mitroglou much better service, where they are receiving the ball in good attacking positions with space created to work their magic but their is reason why Mantalos is playing for a team that is mid table in the Greek Super League, Miralem Pjanić of Bosnia & Herzegovina is a star at Juventus & Belgium's Kevin De Bruyne is a star at Man City.
  8. If Torosidis is 100% fit & the best player at right back or wing back available he will play. Skibbe will have other players mind for every position in case of injury & suspension but you pick your squad & starting team on the best you have available for that match or tournament & not on age, potentials, injury history etc.
  9. Unlike most of us whom still think we have hidden stars like Cristiano Ronaldo playing in the Greek Super League, Skibbe has worked out Greece's limitations, it's strengths, weaknesses & best way to qualify for Russia 2018. He knows that other than Fortounis & Mitroglou our attacking options & very limited. Greek fans make some of these other players seem much better than what they are in reality. Other than Fortounis & maybe Mitroglou on the bench no other current "ATTACKING" Greek player would make Belgium's or Bosnia & Herzegovina's squads if they were from that country. Greece strengthens is when the team plays with hardworking, discipline players, where there is passion, spirit & the team looks very solid & organized in defense due to a team unity. Now as much as I loved watching Holebas play for Greece, maybe he didn't fit that criteria & that was one of Skibbe's unpopular decisions along with having faith in players like Maniatis, Tzavellas etc whom had hardly any game time at club level. Greece will not dominate possession, will not play attractive football, will not score many goal with the what is available but can still qualify. Hopefully in the near future Greece can produce the next group of superstar attacking players but in reality in 2017 people outside of Greece probably would even know much about any current Greek footballer.
  10. Greece has defeated the host nation Turkey in Under 16's Aegean Cup 2017 Final 4-2 on penalties after the match had finished 0-0. http://m.sport24.gr/football/ellada/ethniki_elladas/koupa-mesa-sthn-toyrkia-gia-thn-ethnikh-paidwn.4489733.html
  11. He will be very unlucky if there are no injuries, suspensions & out of form players in his position. All he can do is try his best & if he gets another opportunity to take it.
  12. Uuumm! What the? Sorry, meant to be on Kostas Manolas.
  13. I'm expecting a very successful 2017 for the national team of Greece. I am starting to like a lot of the decisions in the direction Michael Skibbe is taking. A solid draw or win away to Belgium will be a turning point in the team.
  14. He left Sturm Graz's Austrian Bundesliga rivals Rapid Wien only six months ago. I hope he tries to impress the boss at Werder Bremen at least until the end of the season.
  15. Panagiotis Kone has agreed to a deal with Spanish club, Granada, and will likely finish the season in the Primera Division. http://www.xxxyyyzzz (spam)/XXXxxxXXX (spam)-allnews/20170119-4
  16. Samaras hasn't yet accepted that the hunger of being a professional footballer at a high level is gone & all the sacrifices he had to do from a very young age has caught up with him. It doesn't get better than scoring a goal at a FIFA World Cup tournament in stoppage time which took Greece to the knockout stage for the first time. He has played in two FIFA World Cup tournaments, two UEFA Euro tournaments, He won many domestic trophies with Glasgow Celtic, played many UEFA Champions League matches, play in the EPL with Man City & West Brom. He has experienced playing in the Gulf & the USA. At 31 or 32 years of age he has his whole life in front of him & a lot of catching up to do in life from all the sacrifices he did from what a 17 or 21 year old would be doing like surfing, nightclubbing, woman etc instead of having to go to sleep early to get up for training, be on a strict diet, miss most family events. Football did give him fame & fortune, met famous people & visited places he probably wouldn't had he not reached where he did but I think that hunger to train hard is gone.
  17. Kostas Mitroglou came on around the 38th minute for Salvio in Benfica's home Primeira Liga match against Boavista whom after 25 minutes were up 0-3 against the league leaders. Four minutes after coming on, Mitroglou began the comeback with a goal around the 42nd minute mark. The match finished 3-3.
  18. Torosidis was substituted around the half an hour mark of Bologna's 0-1 win away to Crotone in overnight Serie A action. Hopefully it wasn't any serious injury.
  19. I remember prior to Euro 2004, on most forums people were saying that what is Theo Zagorakis doing in the National Team squad ahead of Akis Zikos & Ieroklis Stoltidis. Too old & too slow apparently!
  20. Many Greek footballers are late bloomers! They play their best football once they reach 29 years of age or older. Theo Zagorakis, Traianos Dellas, Michalis Kapsis, Jose Holebas, Oresti Karnezis & quiet a few more. I believe Georgios Tzavellas in the last 12 months has improved a lot adding so much more to his game from free kicks specialist to all of sudden looking like a very confident & solid central defender & not just that skinny left back. Torosidis at 31 years of age hasn't lost as much speed as what people on this site say & I think will play some of his best football of his career in the next 3 years. Mitroglou, Papastathopoulos, Samaris, Fetfatzidis & Ninis will also improve as they mature.
  21. Kostas Mitroglou scored in the 43rd minute, to give Benfica a 0-2 lead away to Guimaraes just before half time & the score remained Guimaraes 0 Benfica 2 until the end of the overnight Portugese Primeira Liga action. Samaris came on as a 19th minute replacement for former Olympiakos teammate Fejsa.
  22. Orestis Karnezis was named Udinese’s MVP for 2016 by the club’s fans! It is the second consecutive year Karnezis has won this award at the club. http://www.xxxyyyzzz (spam)/XXXxxxXXX (spam)-allnews/20170107-1
  23. Man United move would be great for both the player & club. The center of the defense has been a weakness of Man United ever since the Ferdinand & Vidic pairing.
  24. Good move! He's at CD Leganés only until the end of this season on loan with a buy out option. This is the test of all tests for a defender playing at a newly promoted Spanish La Liga club up against Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Suarez, Griezmann, Torres, Benzema, Bale, Morata etc
  25. Also linked to Olympiakos. With the departure of Siovas & most probably Maniatis, Olympiakos need at least one Greek player more to meet the criteria recently implemented by UEFA of having to have a certain amount of player in your squad from your country.
