  1. To be fair i know why fans are so frustrated with him.

in terms of effectiveness He only got 10 goals last season! He's frustrating.

no you didn't say that directly but are insinuating that its perfectly fine to boo him as he's ineffective and frustrating in your opinion. these morons booed him while he collected an award, its hardly gonna help his game when they vent thier frustration at him after he's been the best player on the park.

my own opinion is their frustration stems from having a second rate team with a shaby defence thats finished 2nd to rangers 2 years in succession.

'to be fair to the fans.' how bout being fair to the player ? a player whose goal return you've questioned but fail to mention that he played half the season at left midfield.

  2. To be fair i know why fans are so frustrated with him. In terms of talent he's probably the best forward in their league, but in terms of effectiveness? He only got 10 goals last season! He's frustrating.

i had a feeling you'd take that view, however last season he was in and out the side, managed by the clueless mowbray and was playing left midfield in a significant amount of matches, particularly when keane turned up as mowbray wanted all the strikers he signed to play to justify signing them. when he was given a run in the side up front he managed 8 goals in 9 games before keane kamara and rasmussen turned up and he was shifted out wide
  3. an anti-Samaras man would argue that 10 points may be the difference after tonights game but that damage was done while Samaras was the main man. Alot of Celtic fans I've spoken to say that he's scored 8 in 9 but has missed alot of big chances and should have had 20 in 9. I can't have a view because I haven't seen all those games.

But hey, call me spiteful, but I loved the fact that Samaras got dropped and the result was Celtic not scoring!

so by that logic an anti mitroglou man can blame mitroglou for olympiakos having a poor season, could i then single out dirk kuyt for liverpool not having a good season ? the fact is he's scored more than fortune has had a better season so far than fortune, but fortune is still in the team.

look at the love the celtic fans gave robbie keane when he signed, do you think he'd get booed by the celtic fans and dropped after scoring 8 in 9 ?

  4. they've also signed morten rasmussen so they have 5 forwards in they're squad, and apart from samaras all the others were signed by the current manager, 8 goals in 9 games and as soon as he's had a couple of bad games(the whole team played badly) he's out.

well celtic lost tonight against the mighty kilmarnock 1-0 with all their new strikers(rasmussen excluded) leaving them 10 points behind rangers so the league is as good as over.

  5. he seems to perform well for greece when it matters especially when you consider he's not always played in his preferred position for the national side.

just go back and look at the greece NT threads, almost all the matches greece have played recently he's performed well in.

off the top of my head the 1-4 defeat against turkey he was the only player who had a decent game. the 1-0 win in istanbul got the assist for the goal. against israel in crete he came off the bench and scored. got the assist against ukraine. he has game intelligence, i like clever players, i'm baffled by the amount of criticism he gets.

as an out and out goalscorer gekas is the best we have but samaras' all round game is better

  6. Pliatsikas ruled out of World Cup

Young Greek star Vassilios Pliatsikas has been ruled out for the rest of the season by Schalke after tearing a knee ligament in training. The injury will also keep him out of Greece's squad for this summer's World Cup.

Pliatsikas, 21, suffered the injury on Monday as Schalke trained in Spain during the Bundesliga's winter break. Team doctors confirmed the extent of the injury after further examination in Düsseldorf.

  7. last weekend i was lucky enough to spend a few days in milan and experience the san siro i saw inter's opening match vs bari which finished 1-1 inter looked very average no width and a lack of creativity, so i'm really suprised they smashed ac milan 0-4 (i did not see the milan derby but i guess they played well judging by the score line) mourinho must have really layed into his players, what ever he said has certainly worked the man has that midas touch.

  8. well fortune has been considered ineffective in every game he's played but he hasn't lost his place and responded by scoring twice against the mighty st johnstone. mcdonald hasn't been brilliant either, do you honestly think samaras is being treated fairly ? i said in an earlier post mcdonald and fortune will start regardless of form and samaras will play odd games and make appearances off the bench, people will then say he's inconsistent

  9. he scored a great goal at wembley vs tottenham and did well vs dinamo will be interesting to see if he starts against aberdeen

samaras had the best pre season of all celtics strikers, fortune has been abysmal, i've just seen celtics starting line up v aberdeen and mcdonald and fortune are upfront. samaras is on the bench

@euro2004: so yes managers do have favourites, and its impossible to have any consistency when you are not given the chance

  10. It's not a coincidence that every managed he's played under (Pearce, Sven G.E, Strachan, Rehaggel, and Mowbary) have dropped him from the starting line up. He simly isn't consistent enough

its not a coincidence that all these managers barring rehagel have flopped and been sacked its impossible to be consistent when you're in and out the side, i remember robbie fowler under houllier constantly being dropped and substituted and people said he's inconsistent while he used to sit on the bench watching heskey play game after game without scoring(he went 31 games without scoring before scoring the winner vs sunderland and houllier said thats why i kept faith in him) if samaras is given game time say 10 or so games in a row you'll then see consistency.

he scored a great goal at wembley vs tottenham and did well vs dinamo will be interesting to see if he starts against aberdeen

  11. i've always rated samaras and have been dissapointed with the level of criticism he gets on here, to answer drako's point as to why celtic didn't start him i feel this may be the case throughout the season unfortunatly as mcdonald will always start regardless of his form and the new manager(mowbray) paid big money(in scottish terms) for fortune a player that he's worked with before, so fortune is also likely to always start also, what ever samaras does he won't be given 10 or so games in a row like the other 2 will and if samars does suffer a barren spell or a dip in form he'll be straight out the other 2 will be given more time should they suffer a dip
