  1. papadopoulos has signed a new contract with schalke until 30 june 2015

    http://www.sport.gr/default.asp?pid=4&aid=100053

seems he's had quite a year, big move to germany, broke into the first 11, european cup semi final appearance, won the german cup, made his debut for greece, scored his first international goal, has been rewarded with a contract extension and he's still only 19.

i bet he wishes he stayed at olympiakos :P

  2. Yes I remember that he played well in 2 games this season, one happened to be the quarter final. Perhaps he deserves a statue in his name.

not a statue, just a winners medal - which he got

Regular for Celtic?  So when it suits you he comes off the bench, when it doesn't he's a regular?

whether he starts or comes off the bench he usually features in every game, that's what i meant by regular

  3. his contribution to winning that cup was about as great as mine

i thought he was excellent in the quarter final against rangers, maybe if it was soto or basinas you would of remembered.

    - Scoring 10 goals in 32 apperances in the Scottish league when playing for Celtic

some of those appearances were from the bench others were playing wide left, not brilliant but not bad either

Samaras is a disgrace and there's no way i'd congratulate him for winning a cup

regular for greece, regular for celtic new contract on decent money and silverware in the bag. not bad for a disgrace.

  4. I personally think Casillas is one of the most overrated keeper I have ever seen.

Messi putting the ball through his legs for the 1st goal 2 nights ago proves my point.

Casillas has been fortunate he has played for very successful teams (Real/Spain). I'd like to see him play for Kerkyra or Iraklis and we'd all see how average he really is.

Neuer is all class. Unofficially the best in the world at present.

i disagree, when you're at real the pressure to succeed is immense, they have unlimited funds and can replace you in an instant, the fact he has consistently been real's keeper for the last 10 years shows his class, also spain have a lot of top keepers to choose from and have always gone with casillas.

any journeyman can play at kerkyra or iraklis.

as for papadopoulos he played 90 minutes against munich so i expect a better performance from him on wednesday at old trafford, will be a big test for him.

  5. So am I, along with all Celtic's fans and this reporter, anti-Samaras? I'm merely stating the facts. He was considered a liability and wasn't offered a new contract. He then played excellently for a few games and got his 3 year deal. What's worrying though is that he has absolutely tormented Rangers of late (in their 3 matches before today) and then today he was quiet in the CIS Cup Final where Rangers beat Celtic 2-1. Why am I, and countless other Celtic fans, not surprised? It's the same old Samaras. An abundance of talent, but limited passion = inconsistency, which is why he's scored 2 goals in 18 appearances this year. That's 1 every 9 games despite being up against the likes of St Mirren.

We obviously disagree on Samaras but to be honest i'm a bit confused as to what we disagree about exactly. We agree that he's talented. So do we disagree on his consistency? Do you think those stats are acceptable? Please tell me where we disagree exactly

he was never told that he was 'surplas to requirements' because since you posted that he featured in every game, you made him sound like a mercenary who would rather not play than take a pay cut, which is not the case.

regarding the stats the fact is alot of those appearances were out on the left - not up front - and alot of them were off the bench and he got himself injured straight after his brace vs rangers which set him back another couple of weeks.

although having said all that i think waiting til the summer may have been a better option for him before signing his extention.

  6. No move materialised for Samaras which reflects badly on him in my opinion. He'd rather sit on the bench than take a pay cut and leave. he's opted to stay despite being told he's surplus to requirements

Celtic striker Georgios Samaras has signed a new three-year deal to keep him at the club until 2014.

The 26-year-old Greek had been free to speak to other clubs as his contract was due to run out in the summer.

"I never wanted to leave. I don't care about other clubs, and I gave the manager my word I wouldn't sign a pre-contract." said Samaras.

"I was focused on how to get a deal with Celtic.

Celtic coach Johan Mjallby was pleased to have finally secured the Greece international's services.

"It's a great signing," he said.

"He's obviously the kind of player that we wanted to keep.

"He's got something special and sometimes he can be unplayable."
