  1. you could argue that if you take pao oly and aek out the greek league than that would be weaker than the cypriot league.

my opinion is ludicrous, yours is fact which you clearly proved with your fijian example.

I've told you before, if you want to learn about football you've got to watch more than just British football. :P None of the teams outside the top 2 in Scotland are as good as Aris, Panionios, Larissa, or PAOK. Queen of the South just got KO'd of the UEFA Cup by the Someshitdansihteam FC that Olympiakos' worst ever B team just beat comfortably in Denmark for goodness sake. Go check the head to head record between the Scottish and Greek teams and see the discrepancy. Samaras is doing well, bravo tou, but we can't get over excited until he starts replicating that form against strong opposition, i.e. in the CL or for the NT. Until he does that we can't get over excited. He had a good start to his Celtic career last year in the league, but didn't score in the CL or for Greece. This year his first CL game was against Aalborg(!) and he drew a blank. When he starts performing consistently at the top level we can start getting excited, until then we have to conclude that he's average.
you compare cypriot league to the SPL without celtic and rangers but remember the TOP TWO(in terms of league position last season) greek sides were beaten by cypriot teams recently what does that tell you about our super league. if samaras gets 30 goals this season that will put him in the shop window more so than it would if he scored lots of goals in greece. also scottish teams have got a better record in europe, UEFA cup finalists in 03 and 08.

so celtic missed a penalty and failed to beat aalborg. oly and aek lose to cypriots sides.

for someone that needs to learn about football my euro 08 predictions wern't bad :D niether were my champions league predictions for last season.

  2. In football there's opinion and there's fact and I respect opinion. If you say La Liga is better than the Premiership then I'll disagree with you, but I'll respect your opinion. If however you say that the Fijian league is better than Serie A then I'll simply dismiss your opinion. This is one of those situations. If you take out Celtic and Rangers the Scottish league is weaker than the Cypriot league so I can't even dignify your implication that there isn't much difference between the Scottish league & the Greek league. It's a ridiculous comment.

you could argue that if you take pao oly and aek out the greek league than that would be weaker than the cypriot league.

my opinion is ludicrous, yours is fact which you clearly proved with your fijian example.

  3. We have to make up our mind....Tuff league holland scores some goals...City not 1 but 2 managers not playing him he is done...goes to celtic plays a handful of games of the bench scores...Starts the season en FUEGO,bad league.

i dont think dude is crapping on him. he's merely saying that the reason samaras doesnt replicate that form for greece is not merely because he doesnt get support from greece's midfield as clover has argued but also because he is playing against weak opposition. he's right too. look at how many goals samaras has scored from being all alone in the centre of the opposition's defence. if he starts performing like that in the champs lge too and for greece we can start getting excited otherwise bigging him up too much is premature. you have to understand that samaras is arrogant too so the last thing he needs is for people to start blowing wind up his ass. he needs to keep working hard because at the moment he's just an average player.

you could also argue that all the greece based players in our NT are also up against weak opposition week in week out, you could add dellas to that list too. at least playing for celtic gives him more exposure. i think its unfair to call him average just because he's playing in a poor league, haristeas is average not samaras. torosidis and ninis play in a poor league also but i believe they are decent not average players.

  4. Vasilis Torosidis has admitted he would be interested in a move to the Premier League.

Versatile Olympiakos player Torosidis is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Greece and has already made 15 appearances for his country.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a switch to Blackburn but he insists he has not heard anything official to suggest they are considering him.

He is happy to stay at Olympiakos, although he concedes he is a fan of English football and would be tempted to join Blackburn if the opportunity arises.

"Nobody has contacted me and no document has arrived from Blackburn," Torosidis told the Greek media.

"It is only rumours and it is not up to me to go somewhere. I have a contract with Olympiakos.

  5. Olympiakos are reportedly in talks with Liverpool over the signing of midfielder Sebastian Leto.

Leto joined The Reds last summer from Lanus but has struggled for first-team opportunities since his switch

this player looked really average whenever i've seen him but he is young and has time to improve. i don't think he'll be a great signing if you guys do get him

by the way he plays left midfield/wing

  6. Samaras seals Celtic return

Greek striker delighted to secure permanent deal with SPL champions

Celtic have completed the signing of Georgios Samaras on a permanent deal from Manchester City.

Samaras spent the second half of last season on loan at Parkhead and had been keen to stay with the SPL champions.

  7. Reyes would attempt to replace Lua Lua and he isn't good enough to do that.

And which Garcia is being linked? Sergio Garcia prob wouldn't come to Greece but there's no reason that Luis Garcia wouldn't. However, he wouldn't get into the Olympiakos team. He plays on the right and there's no way that he's better than Galletti.

cannot believe anyone rates lua lua more than reyes he did well for arsenal and real madrid but football is all about opinions

as for luis garcia he can play right left or just behind the striker and has an amazing strike rate.

  8. I could see Garcia comming due to his age. Also they said we are after a centre foward too. So maybe they got Morientes lined up.

luis garcia is class and so is reyes i can't believe either of these players will go to greece. would be great for the super league if they did come
  9. congratulations to samaras just won the SPL with celtic. the only greek abroad with any honours this season. shows what a strong character he is and what a great attitude he has could have stayed at man city and won nothing but this has turned out to be a great move for him, hopefully he'll get a good move this summer :gr: :gr: :gr:   :nw: :nw:

  10. bolton were playing sides who were top of thier league so were tottenham who could have hammered psv in holland if it wasn't for the heroics of gomez (psv keeper) bolton were still around 16th when they beat atletico who are 4th blackburn were the only side that flopped. 5th 6th 7th 8th place in england are better than the same positions in any other league because they have greater spending power

  11. For me, this dominance is bitter.

Man United is the only team with a real respect and policy towards English football in general. Ferguson has backed the UEFA's project to instaure quotas like in the old days.

Chelsea have a few good English players but they often play Lampard, Terry, Joe Cole and As.Cole.

Liverpool use to have a huge academy with talented players. Benitez has declared that this academy was a failure  and now, you barely see an English player at Anfield.

Then Arsenal, managed by the most anti-English bloke I know, well, like most of the French community in the UK, slagging our culture but more than happy to benefit from our economic system is simply not an English team anymore.

ashley cole david bentley both produced by wenger theo walcott has improved tremendously under wenger. since when did the scott that is mr ferguson start caring about english football, wenger benitez would love to have the money to spend on the likes of ferdinand rooney or even hargreaves or carrick. does it really matter if you have 7, 8, or 10 foreigners in your starting 11 ? AEK athens in a couple of uefa cup games lined up with only 2 greeks, materazzi was inter's only italian when they played liverpool barca only have a few spaniards in their line up why is it only the english that dislike having lots of foreign players in their teams ? realise that every european league(besides turkey who only permit 6 per squad) has loads of foreign players and be thankful that the best ones are in england
  12. The English elite (top 4) are way better than any other countries top 4, but the English league overall is not that good. That's why they're all getting battered in the UEFA Cup...

the Top 4 of England are great teams.... the rest are good, but realistically I cant see any team in the next 10 years winning the EPL except for one int big 4.. the talent gap is huge.... unless and Abramovic type deal happens to another team...

2 points to make here firstly the english teams did not get battered in the uefa cup bolton are about to be relegated and rested players for their uefa cup matches in order to concentrate on premier league survival and still beat atletico madrid and norrowly lost to sporting.everton got knocked out on penalties and tottenham(11th in england) lost on penalties to the leaders of the dutch league and current dutch champions.

second point outside of the top 4 you're right no one for 10 years will win the EPL(well top 3 because liverpool will never win it) but its exactly the same in every other league in europe. when was the last team to win the greek league outside of pao oly or aek ?? lyon in france will real or barca fail to win la liga ? in italy when did serie a go to a team other than milan inter or juve ?

  13. ferguson was very clever calls for a strong ref and for protection for ronaldo, meanwhile he instructs his defenders to kick lumps out of torres. man u will win the league, and probably the european cup too, they tend to get decisions go their way and have an ability to win when they play poorly and when they click they're awesome.

i noticed the media coverage of mascherano was way over the top, i just hope the same coverage is given to the likes of terry and rooney in future.

@arsenal. i don't think the lack of english players is a problem, to me its not important, 11 english players or 11 foreign makes no difference to me. put ronaldo(and a decent keeper) in that team and i'm sure they'd win the league

  14. The one thing I do disagree STRONGLY about though is that the Dutch league is 6th best in Europe. No way, it's shockingly bad.

Can I ask why you think the Prem is better than the rest? Irlandos has said it's because they've realised they don't need to attack all the time (hence the reasons are strategic), I think it's because they've learned to combine British physicality/athleticism with continental technique. What do you think?[/b][/color]

also money, the best players are in england the best coaches are in england, the facilities are great, look at the third tier of english football leeds and notts forest getting gates of over 20000 that doesn't happen in other countries. also mid table prem teams can spend big (newcastle villa spurs) so now players who are playing for the top team in say portugal or holland or france would jump at the chance to play for a mid table prem team which makes the league really strong.

    @dutch league

a few years ago ajax used to challenge and win the european cup, dutch teams were strong in europe, but because uefa gave england spain and italy 4 champions league places these teams could spend more hence players would leave holland for these teams to the detriment of dutch football. its a shame because i prefered the days when the likes of benfica ajax celtic marseille red star panathinaikos could reach the latter stages of the european cup without it being a suprise. its wrong that 4 teams fron england are in the last 8. last season 3 of the last 4 were english. a few seasons ago it was spanish dominance with valencia real and barca in the last 4.

  15. remember - arabs are our friends, correct? us greeks support the plo and palestinians...we even named a street in athens after yassir arafat.

explain that to the families of some 28 greeks massacred by machine gun fire in egpyt in the late 1990's. ahhhh...the wise man in the back of the kafeneio would reply that it was the israelis, disguised as arabs. ahhhhh..yes, let's go play a friendly in the gaza strip now.

i remember that incident, although no apology was given they did say that the gunman mistook the greeks for israelis. i'm in no way justifying the incident though. as for playing in serbia don't believe the media hype thats made the serbs look like monsters, there is no way a greek team playing there would have any problems. quite how you can compare that with playing in gaza is amazing
  16. @dude disagree file, bolton are resting players when they play in europe to avoid relegation, yet they still dumped atletico out who are 4th in spain. tottenham are 11th in england and lost on penalties to the top team in holland. not sure what happened to blackburn maybe thier lack of european expierience full credit to larissa though. the reason the EPL is so strong is money aston villa are 6th yet can still shell out 9.5m gpb on ashley young what other team thats 6th in their respective league has that sort of spending power. the wages are higher and all the top foreign talent wants to play in england. la liga used to be better but not anymore.

    1/EPL

    2/LA LIGA

    3/SERIE A

    4/BUNDESLIGA

    5/french league

    6/dutch league

    7/portugease

also check this report out in todays times very interesting about foreign players in europe.

  17. cutting it to 2 teams per nation will weaken the competition but will strengthen the uefa cup which is poorly attended particularly in the early stages. personally i'm in favour of that, i'd go further and have only the champions of each country and the holders, then the uefa cup would be really strong, also the cup winners cup should be reintroduced.

i think man u will win it, but you can't rule out arsenal. barcelona are 8pts behind an average real side(average by their standards) so i can't see them do anything.

i've said it for a long time the english league is way ahead of the rest
