  1. 82' Aravidis misses a good chance to equalise
  2. 10 minutes to go still Iraklis - AEK 2-1
  3. 70' Iraklis miss a chance totally against the run of the play
  4. There's only one team on the pitch right now. I am surprised we're behind this team.
  5. We had to stay indoors on the 21st of April itself. Eventually, things were relaxed. Football matches were cancelled that weekend, including our NT's game against Austria for the Cup of Nations (the "Euro" as it's called nowadays) qualifiers.
  6. I was 13, a student, looking forward to my 2-week Easter holiday. There were only two days of school left to go: Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22. Traditionally in Greece, these were the two days your teachers would dump a truckload of homework on you to make sure you didn't enjoy your holidays too much. I was awake but still in bed and determined to stay there until my mother called. Instead of hearing her call to get up, I heard her steps as she ran from the living room - with our radio placed strategically on a table against the wall - to her bedroom, screaming to my father "
  7. The trips have got to be discouraged to prevent further tragedies. There are very few cases of legitimate asylum that should be considered (e.g. Afghan or Pakistani Christians that face persecution in their own countries) but the vast majority are economic migrants who should not be allowed to set foot on European soil.
  8. Let's see... My favourite films: Chinatown 300 Spartans (1962 film) Lawrence of Arabia Ten Commandments El Cid Jesus of Nazareth The Godfather (only I and II) Gandhi Star Wars (all of them) The Longest Day Schindler's List Indiana Jones (I and II) Casablanca Gone with the Wind Back to the Future Tora! Tora! Tora! Ben Hur The Mummy (1999 film) Greek films
  9. We may be playing in Windsor Park after all. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32322863 There is a picture in the article of the West stand. Tell me if you would even consider allowing people in this...
  10. By the time we play them, they may be without a home field as one of the two stands in use today has been found to have cracks. Should the game be held in England - which is likely - the crowd will probably be split 50-50. Besides that, NI are playing to the max of their ability and I don't know if they can keep that up.
  11. I like Anakoglou and think he will make his mark in the league. Btw, is this Simoes related to the one I knew ages ago (Antonio)?
  12. I don't think we will be building around anyone. We should go with the nicely gelled team we have already built with maybe 3-4 additions and a bit of depth. But Mandalos is tops with me too!
  13. I look forward to Bakakis, Mandalos, Platelas, Aravidis and Anakoglou plying their trade in the Super League. They grew up together in the B and C levels and will present a nicely gelled team next year.
  14. Thanks Akriti! You made my day with that laugh!
  15. And who is to blame? Who had our peaches and other fruits rotting away at homateres whilst northern countries were exporting jams and marmalades? Who have all the farmers in Drama and Xanthi idle when they used to export tobacco? Who sets up these arbitrary rules on exports, assigning to themselves to lion's share and leaving us with next-to-nothing? Who is benefiting from the lack of protection of our industries and products? Exactly! Kowtow all you want to Europe, tell them how grateful you are when it is they that are benefiting at our expense!
  16. I can't believe what I am reading here! Are you guys a bunch of amerikanakia or what??? A nationalist Russia always has been a natural ally of Greece and a natural enemy of Turkey. Those historic ties need to be cultivated. Russia may not be able to offer much at this point but, I think, if the chips were down, Russia would do us more good than the EU and the US.
  17. Greece should cultivate closer ties with Russia and provide them with a base on one of our islands facing Turkey with plenty of anti-aircraft batteries.
  18. One thing we need to mention: Due to its climate, the Faroe Islands do not have pitches with natural grass. Our NT will be playing this game on artificial turf.
  19. Again the naysayers are having a field day with their predictions of doom and gloom... Your way: * Greeks will be stuck with debts they cannot hope to repay. * The economy will take much longer to recover. * The same crisis will hit us again in 30, 40, 50 years or whatever. * We will have to pay for our own currency. * Our exports will be continued to be undermined. In the 1960s the Greek economy was developing at a record pace, we had export markets for our products, unemployment was negligible, domestic products were favoured and protected and capital stayed put. No one is going to tell me things are better now!
  20. To beat the Faroe Islands, Greece have got to start the game strong with unrelenting pressure. That's how N. Ireland defeated them. We also need to keep the ball low as the high crosses got us nowhere in our home game. And Giorgos Samaras should start this game!
  21. Much too much scaremongering is going on regarding a return to a national currency. They say a national currency would go down to 1/3 its value within a year. Well, that happened between 1979 and 1980 and nobody even noticed. They say everyone will pull their money out of the banks. Hello! That's happening now! Should there be a change in currency, a nice long bank holiday would be declared and at the end of that nice long bank holiday, there would be no euros in the banks - only converted national currency. But that radical step need not be taken as a parallel Greek euro could be introduced, that is legally tender within the country, with severe penalties for non-acceptance or for charging any premiums on actual euros. Eventually, if circumstances warranted, the Greek euro would become the national currency (renamed, devalued, etc.) and the euros would become a foreign currency.
  22. My opinion: Greece should've declared bankruptcy in 2009, reverted to her own currency and unilaterally withdrew from the EU's daft export rules to seek markets for her products.
  23. Hungary are a weak squad and I have no doubt they will drop points. However, we have N. Ireland and Romania away and I'm not sure we'll get max points out of these games. On a separate note: Cracks have been found in the West stand of Windsor Park. As it is, the South and East stands are being renovated and are out of commission. N. Ireland will have to decide to play their games with only the North stand in use or move their home games elsewhere (possibly even to England).
  24. Thank you, Ranieri, for making a thread like this possible!
