  1. The A-League is inferior to the GSL. The standard of players the A-LG attracts is Beta Ethniki standard at best.

Glossy highlights packages and small boutique rectangle stadiums that are 2/3 full doesn't suggest that the standard is even close to the Cypriot league let alone the GSL.

The A-LG has 10 teams and 6 of those teams are at an amateur level. There's no relegation/promotion and the same players get recycled through the various teams.

With all the problems that exist in the Greek league and yes there are many and in many ways the standard is going backwards, it's still at least 15 years ahead of the A-LG, Norwegian, Danish, Czech, Scottish, Polish, Swedish, Slovak, Israeli and 25 other European leagues which I'm not going to mention.

  2. The thing is there has to be some objective measure on the standard of the Greek Super League away from bias and perceptions.

For every one person who defends the quality of the GSL (let's use me as that person) there are 5 other people who dismiss it. Most of these critics wouldn't have a clue about the quality of the Greek league.

If the GSL was as poor as what the naysayers think it is, then Antonis will be a boss in the PAOK midfield as he was for Sydney FC in the A-League.

Basically the way Nathan Burns tore it up at AEK! Oh wait...he never did! He was one of the best in last years A-League though.

  3. Good post Paotrella. They can paint the field a Turkish flag and it wouldn't/shouldn't matter or bother the players.

I'd like PAO to beat them 8-0 over the 2 legs but unfortunately this isn't going to happen. Last year Inter could barely get over them in the Europa group stages. In fact this team achieved a similar record to Asteras. 1 win 3 draws 2 losses.

  4. Anastasiadis is not fit for the job. I read yesterday that the only reason Malezas didn't sign for PAOK last season when he returned from Germany was because of Anastasiadis.

He demanded that a buyout clause be inserted in to the Panetolikos contract so that if Anastasiadis was to leave then he could approach PAOK to trigger the release.

Sounds like the guy is an old world coach who manages like he was managed when he was a player.

  5. Cimirot sounds like a good player. I don't think PAOK will sign both him and Antonis from Sydney FC which leads me to think that the rumours about Antonis are exactly that.

Australian media has been making up a lot of stuff lately.

It might happen I guess but I think Cimirot is more likely.

  6. He's a starting attacking-midfielder/winger for Australia. He scored the wimning goal against South Korea in the Asia Cup final.

He's Greek. Bought by Juventus but never played for them.

He's got skill and speed but he wouldn't set the Greek Super League on fire.

  7. A few weeks ago I was unimpressed with the lack of perceived quality from the signings that AEK made (not that I really cared tbh) but with Didac Vila and Buonanotte this AEK team may well finish in the European places.

  8. Not only did he take his Italian Step-father's name but he also bought in to believe in everything Italian.

I doubt he'd come to play in Greece. Sure he'll play for a s#it Mongolbirligi club in Turkey but he'll laugh at the idea of playing in Greece for a club on the verge of Europa League.
